First time at this course and really enjoyed it. Can't imagine playing a muni course with a much nicer layout or in much better condition. The views were outstanding. And the course conditions made it a very enjoyable experience.

The course is tough for a middle handicapper like me. Especially demanding off the tee. If you got your tee ball in play, it was quite playable from there. But if your driver is off, bring a lot of balls

Maybe a little pricey. But overall a good experience and I would definitely come back for a good challenge on a pretty course.

Played for the 1st time with GK guru friends. I really enjoyed the course as I am a mid-high handicapper. Course was beautiful and we couldn't have picked a better November day to play. Weather was clear and sunny with temps reaching mid 80's. Driving range was great, large and well kept. This type of course is a pleasure for me as a beginner, I try to stay on muni type courses to practice. Fairways in good shape, and Greens were tops but very fast. Most of the greens sloped towards Disneyland. We had great views from several back 9 holes. I particularly likes the back 9 as it was away from houses and into the Hills. I would def like to play this course again.

Played GKguru tee time with 3 other GK Guru's LakersFOOlife, Kviser, and Dconnally. We went out at 11:32AM on Friday 11/18/2016....weather was very warm for Brea/Yorba Linda about mid 80's. Course was light in traffic and we had great spacing between groups. Course was in great winter conditions, as overall fairways were great and rough was lush. Greens were near perfect, fast and but receptive. Greens on this golf course always tough as most of the course sits among the hillside with great look outs into Orange County. This day was a bluebird day and were saw clear to the ocean and Catalina Island in the distance. Tee Boxes were good, level with little issues. Bunkers were good as we also say some work being performed on hold 7 or 8....new white sand being filled, possibilities of new white sand for the course? This course always a challenge but fair, fast breaking greens(Must play approach shots below the pin) and with back 9 playing into the canyons. I always enjoy playing this course as yardage is plenty and the hole variety are great. Thank you Black Gold GC and Greenskeeper Jhonny.

I played today with Dave, Roger, and Jeff on a GK Guru tee time. Big thanks to Johnny and Black Gold for the fantastic rate and great course conditions. It was my first time here and I felt impressed. Lush and green throughout the course. The greens were smooth and fast. Plenty of undulations and according to Dave, some tough pin placements today. Great coverage on the fairways; when I found the short grass I never had a bad lie. The rough was thick kikuyu grass, mowed nicely to around just under 2". Most of the time balls would sit nicely, but occasionally you could find it settled down deep. We played the white tees and they were in good shape; lush and level. The course personnel were all friendly and helpful. It is quite hilly and I'm sure it would be a tough walk. No matter though; the carts have the best seats. Super comfortable! The carts also have a great GPS system and a small ice chest. I wish the course was closer to me; it took me an hour and a half to get here from Santa Clarita. Going home, it took over two hours. It's not even all that far, just a lot of traffic to get here.

Played in a GURU tee time at 11:32am with kviser, lakerfoolife, and allmotorgsr81 – thanks to Kevin, Jeff, and Roger for an enjoyable round – first time meeting the latter two. Course was in very good condition and weather was great – clear and sunny with almost no wind. We played white (6,045/69.8/125; group decision) and enjoyed a smooth round in 4.5 hr. Greens were firm and pretty fast, increasing in speed as the round went on. They generally held good shots. Coverage was good and there weren’t too many unrepaired ballmarks on each green. Fairways and rough had good coverage – fairways were fairly dry and the ball mostly sat pretty tight. Rough could be benign or ankle-shaggy, and it’s that darn kikuyu. Both fairways and rough had many, many unfilled divots and slashes. Tee boxes were level and playable, and even par-3 tee boxes had only a little divot damage. Several of the white tee markers were moved well forward. Sand was groomed and in good condition in both fairways and around greens. Cart girl drove into our group teeing off on #6 – we saw her several times overall. Saw a course marshal only once. We were putting on hole #16 when some fool on #13 sat in his fairway with music blasting in his cart that you could hear six holes away. Thanks to Johnny for setting this up. Recommended. Only negative - we exited the course to brutal Friday evening traffic - 1 hour to travel the 91E from Imperial Highway to the 241 toll road! Yikes!!

Played here yesterday in perfect weather at 10 am. Haven,t played here for a long time so thought we should give it a look since many courses are punching at this time. GK reviews were all good and no maintenance was shown so we booked our time on tee off.com for $57. I forgot how fun this course really is and the conditions were great too. Tees were level, fairways were green and lush but did have thin areas however many were marked as GUP so you weren't,t penalized for it and the greens were in great shape rolling smooth and semi-fast. It appears they are working on the bunkers but the one I was in played fine although it was a little thin so maybe they are adding new sand with this work. We really enjoyed our round and the service was great too! It is a nice time to play Black Gold.........pace was about 4.5 hours

Played here on Monday, 31 October. Grabbed a great deal on Teeoff, including a 20% off promo offer, I think it ended up $37 including fees. Teed off at 12:48pm, finished at 4:35pm, so pace of play was good overall, but waited on most holes from the 8th-onwards. The black and blue tee boxes were near picture-perfect, as I drove by them to tee from the whites. Level, long and plush. Fairways were also lush and indeed had some wet spots, where a few drives landed and had virtually no roll. The times I found the rough around the green, it was pretty long and the ball could settle down in, and make for a grabby situation to get the wedges through - so it is doing what rough is supposed to do. Sand in a fairway trap on #3 was just what I like in them - reasonably firm underneath with about 1/2" of softer sand on top. Greens were excellent and moderate-fast. The feature of the course I think they have improved upon lately is the consistency and quality of the fringe around the greens. They seem to have made it more of a feature, integrating with the slope of the greens on a few holes, and is fairly-tightly mowed. First noticed this in front of the 3rd hole, and then on hole #8 was really struck by the quality and size of the 'playable' fringe area there behind and to the left of the green. This course is in better shape right now than any other I've played recently. Well done.

We tee off on time at 12:10 tee time and finished about 4 hours, 20 minutes later. Unfortunately, we easily could have finished 30 min sooner, if it were not for a slow group in front of us.

BLACK GOLD GOLF COURSE was in good shape with exceptional greens that are fast and roll true.

It looks like BLACK GOLD is in the process of adding new sand to some of the bunkers since some bunkers had new white sand.

I would highly recommend this course to everyone. Can't wait to come back.

Next time, I am taking out one of the GOLFBOARDS, it looked like a blast.

Great time this afternoon with GK Review Gurus allan_grant, scratchman and Itslikeimsayin. 12:10 tee time and we finished 4 hours, 20 minutes later. Probably would have been faster if not for a fairly slow group in front of us.

As Mark said, course was in very nice condition highlighted by the greens. Receptive and rolling well at medium-quick speeds. Got a little slower/bumpier as the afternoon went on and spike marks started to show more. Tee boxes fine. Fairways mostly very nice and looking greener than my last visit here thanks to the rain yesterday. Any really weak spots are marked off as GUR. Rough less consistent. Sometimes very thick and nasty with semi-dry kikuyu. Other times not much of a factor with the ball sitting up. Some bunkers had fresh new sand and others haven't been done yet, so a little crustier but fine.

Overall another enjoyable experience with a fun group. Thanks to Kemper Sports, Black Gold and JohnnyGK for arranging these killer deals at this nice OC track. If you aren't taking advantage of these Guru times, you are missing out!
