11:41 tee time today, $70 GN price. 5 hour round, lots of waiting on most holes. Customer service from check in through the attendant that cleans your clubs was 5 stars, excellent.

The previous reviews made me very excited to play here, and I think I may have expected a little too much. The fairways and rough were much spottier than I expected, with a lot of thin lies and several bare areas. Many were marked as GUR, so that's good at least. Overall I'd just say the whole course feels thin and could use some growth. The tee boxes were all level with good coverage though, and the greens were fast and held shots very well. There were a lot of bumps on the greens today, some from ball marks and some from the footsteps of groups ahead, so putting was kind of difficult. I can't comment on the bunkers, I stayed out of them all day. They looked nice though.

I'm a little disappointed because I expected more, but still I can't say it was a bad day. I'll leave it as it's in good condition overall...I've seen it better but also much worse. Recommended, especially if you can find a discount.

Was able to grab a good early afternoon rate on teeoff.com. Went out as a two-some with a nice young guy who averaged 275 yard drives.

Concur with otonitoni's review. Course was indeed in very good overall condition, starting with level tees and mostly green fairways. Generally, some good roll there, but a few of my drives actually 'checked up' due to soft/wet spots, which is not what you want to see when you struggle to knock it 200 yards. Still, it was a great, fun day as the greens were amongst the best I've putted on recently.

As 'otonitoni' said, everything breaks towards Anaheim, and keeping this in mind, was able to make at least 3 6-10 foot putts, including one for birdie, that otherwise appeared to break the other way based upon topology. So, an 'assist' is due to otonitoni! Greens rolled true and were fast. Beware putts that take off AFTER the hole, particularly on downslope pin placements. In spite of putting very well overall, in two instances, putts ended up as far away as I started!

The one greenside sand trap I was in was in very good shape w/fair, nice sand.

Cart girl was around twice on the front side. POP was was exactly 4 hours, with minimal waiting on the tee of most holes.

This course has a number of fun, well-designed holes and certainly provides a number of opportunities for panoramic views towards the coast on a clear day. Definitely worth the greens fee right now.

Played Friday 9/30 at 6:56am with my dad. This was my first round here and I was very impressed. Great facility with some of the most comfortable carts I have ever drove. Pace of play was great at 4 hours. My dad has bad knee and the starter was kind enough to allow us to drive closer to the greens. First off the course was in great shape. Greens look to have been punched maybe a month ago and are just about healed up. Nothing really affected roll or line mostly just visual. Green speed was medium fast. The rough and fringe did have fairly new punch marks but didn't seem to be an issue. Tee boxes were level and plush. None had severe damage except the second par 3, which had a ton of divots. Besides that everything was green and lush. Fairways looked great and rolled really well. Rough was anywhere from 1 to 5 inches. If you missed wide there was some very tall rough that you had to really look hard to find you ball. Bunkers looked great with bright white sand on top but only about 1 inch or so deep and then hard wet clay under. You had to really make smart shots to recover from bunkers. All in all a great course and great staff. They had a charity shotgun tournament that afternoon and we felt no pressure to finish or rush. Can't wait to play here again!

Played here on Sunday 9/26. Given greens were punched on 9/12-9/13, greens are in very good condition. A few looked almost 100% back and others were 75-80. Very playable now. While a little slower and bumpy in spots, nothing to complain about. I like having the aeration out of the way early here. Good to play now, and in 2 weeks, assuming similar maintenance, they will be back to 100% normal and fast.

Fairways continue to improve and areas where kikuyu has filled in are great. Cut to a nice tight, but still lush height, beautiful to play off. GUR areas are appropriately marked and provides for fair relief.

I found (3) greenside bunkers and found them to be hard under a rather thin layer of well groomed sand. Only area that needs a little improvement. I bounced a couple of sand wedges off the firm bottom, expecting to have more cushion / sand underneath.

No issues with tee boxes. The few which were re-done are open again and in great condition.

Service is always friendly and professional, inside and out. Maybe the best 19th hole patio around, overlooking the tricky water guarded 18th.

Enjoy now, highly recommend.

Played the Blues (6439/71.4/131) in 4H. The weather was hot but bearable, clear with a little breeze late in the day. I enjoy this layout more each time I play here. Hilly, tight in spots, but a really solid course in good to very good condition. Several tees were recently completely resodded. Overall, the tees were mostly lush with few unfixed divots. The Kikuyu fairways were semi lush and nice to play from. A few small areas that were thin or hardpan but clearly marked as GUR. The Kikuyu rough was more consistently lush than the fairways. Not overly long, but it's still penal because it's Kikuyu. The sand traps were well maintained, both the quality and quantity of the sand was very good. The greens here are normally very good and putt well. However, they will need another couple of weeks to get back to that point after fall maintenance. Medium speed but not as bumpy as expected. The customer service was excellent from all encountered. Cart gal out making the rounds. Recommended = Yes.

GK Cup 8 is in the books. Congratulations Sixpez as GK Cup 8 Champion! What a fun day playing 36 holes on a layout I enjoy more and more. Great time with GK’ers lotrgolfer48 and Nickesquire too. I thought the condition of the golf course was excellent. The ball was sitting up beautifully in the kikuyu fairways all day for me. I only saw just few thin areas in the fairways but safe to say they were at least 95% excellent lush coverage. I happen to be in the rough quite often. It was difficult to play almost all the time due to the kikuyu grass. Sometimes only a couple inches and other times close to 4 inches. Greenside rough was especially difficult. Once on the greens they rolled smooth and fast with only occasional bumps from poorly fixed ball marks. They were faster in the afternoon than in the morning. I thought the greens held shots well and looked very healthy. As for the tee boxes, lush and well groomed. Lastly the bunkers, which I had my share of fairway and greenside, all the bunkers I experienced had a good amount of quality sand in them. They were well raked and there were times I was very happy to be in the bunker instead of in the deep kikuyu grass which commonly surrounded them. Service in the clubhouse, starter, attendants, marshal and golf cart beverage was friendly and courteous. We saw the golf cart beverage service on a busy day at the golf course at least 3 times during the morning round and a couple times in the afternoon round. Before the round the recently leveled and new sodded driving range looked great. Plus I loved the new golf carts. Smooth ride. I’m looking forward to playing Black Gold Golf Club again when the greens heal from the aeration that will be taking place Monday 9/12 & Tuesday 9/13. Highly Recommended.

Played here this weekend with Kevin, Brian and Matt. What a beautiful day for some golf! Pace of play was wonderful, didn't see anyone in front of us the whole day. Course was in pretty good shape, some patches of brown grass, but other then that it was awesome. This course reminds me of Glen Ivy a lot, but the price is a little steep compared to Glen Ivy. Customer service was great, all though I didn't see a cart girl all day which was kinda disappointing. The bunkers were a little wet on the bottom, but other then that they were nice and soft to hit out of. This course can punish you if you hook or slice your tee shot, which I did plenty of. Overall I really enjoyed the course, would love to play it again, but I wouldn't pay full price for it.

Was privileged to be part of the GK Guru/GK Cup Finals at Black Gold yesterday. Not much else to add to everyone else's reviews. Course was in pretty good shape and other than a few areas of patchy/spotty rough, I found it to be very enjoyable and playable. Since conditions have already been covered in the previous reviews I'll just add that while I really like the layout, it can be punishing if you're even slightly off. With many hazards, ESA, or OB on just about every hole, you'd better be straight or else you're in for a long day! Customer service has always been nice here and yesterday was no exception. I'll be back as soon as the greens heal from aeration. Thanks GK and BGGC!
