Joined Apisarski, Rob1563, and his son on Friday afternoon at CMCC. I live about 1 mile from this course but the likelihood of 5-6 hour rounds normally keeps me away. I had some low expectations coming into the rough because I had seen all of the unnatural lakes from the heavy rains the past month. Surprisingly the course was perfectly fine. The course is very green right now which is nice to see even though there are 100 different types of grass. Greens were soft and ran at a medium pace. Tee's were space appropriately and fairways had good not great coverage. POP was only 4 hours which is rare for this course but we were very excited to finish even though we tee's off at 1:15 . This places offers a good value and if you need to play somewhere close to home this is the place.

Went out late today as a single under their super-twilight rate. Jumped around between the front/back nines for 9 holes and squeezed in 4 more on Los Lagos in under 2.5 hours under last light. Generally, light play, but did have some groups to deal with early.

Courses overall have fared pretty well through the January rains, and were dry in all spots. In speaking with a staff member a few days ago, they mentioned they held back carts a few days. Kudos to staff, as fairways showed no signs of cart tire damage as they've had over the last two years. Overall, they were pretty good, but have suffered some flood damage. Not too bad, however, with the exception of Mesa #14, which typically does get hammered with heavy rains. Closed to carts.

Tees had good coverage and were firm, and greens were nice. Traps were in good condition, and well-raked for the two i visited. Well-worth the late fee and late afternoon walk.

Played last week on Monday, 11/26. Teed off at noon and POP was exactly 4 hours, with a bit of waiting on most holes - a 4some 3 groups ahead were about 1 hole behind, and of course, the marshal said nothing. But, we were 'on pace'... Check-in was smooth.

Lovely day, fairways and tees were freshly cut, which always makes things nicer. Greens were lush and really nice. Fully recovered from their punching. Not too bumpy, and rolled mostly smooth at medium-pace.

Pleasantly surprised with the sand quality on the day - was in 4. It was fluffier than usual, and only took 1 swing to get out of each :) Still, saw too many un-raked footprints from prior golfers on the day #@%$!.

Cart lady came by twice.

Played Monday, 7/30 at 1:45pm starting as a foursome during a stretch of light play. POP was 3:50, with only a few short waits later in the round waiting for the group in front to clear the green (we were on the tees with a golfer who could bomb it). Group behind us was easily a hole behind. Good day/pace for an enjoyable round.

As the course is nearing the home stretch for the Will Jordan Costa Mesa City Championship, the grounds crew was very active. However, the course conditions were a mixed bag, primarily due to wildly inconsistent lengths of rough ( 1" - 6"+). Fairways also were a mixed bag, with recent re-sodding leaving a ring of bare spots between the repaired sections and the rest of the fairway. Really looks bad, but only an issue if your ball ends up there. The typical mix of good kikuyu grass coverage, bare spots and alternative grass/greenery persist. Was a 50/50 chance of a good lie in the fairway on the day.

Tees were good, and they had the blues either up front or back, to avoid the primary teeing areas, letting them heal up.

Greens were the best part, cut nicely, and starting to have a real 'look' like they are ready for the tourney. They were receptive, rolled pretty smoothly at medium speed. Tricky breaks/green reading, as usual. By the 13th hole, we were down to 3 golfers and we all made birdies on the par4 13th - a first time I've been a part of that! My putt, at least, was indeed a 'tricky' 12 footer, with a L-R side/downhill breaking putt. :)

A good day out. But, glad I am not playing the course this weekend in the tourney. Fairway and rough conditions present enough inconsistency that you will have some bad lies after hitting pretty good shots. Still do recommend the course for normal play.

I'd give both of these courses the same rating = 6. I like Los Lagos better than Mesa Linda.

There are two courses and they are treated evenly, both seem to have the same care into the maintenance of the courses. It is not a real country club, it is open to the public, but it is probably the best value that you can find in orange county. This is not my favorite club to play at, but it is much cheaper than most golf clubs in Orange County. I would say that it rivals Los Serranos Country Club, but this Costa Mesa country club has better coverage of fairways and fringe. It's not perfect, it's not like a great course in Palm Springs or the likes, but I was very happy in the care of the course.

The price for a round here is the REAL star of the course, but as far as the golf:
The fairways were the star of the courses, the greens were only slightly less than the fairways and the tee boxes are the weakest part of the courses although a couple of boxes on the Los Lagos course were being treated.

Early morning tee time on Mesa Linda, course was busy and as usual first tee well organized. The course is getting ready for the city championship and quite a few workers on the course. They are putting a lot of water on the course and a lot of wet spots on the fairways. Tee boxes were level and had good coverage. Fairways were very wet and grass was long, not a lot of roll. Traps were wet compacted sand. Greens had good coverage with a lot of unfixed divots. Greens were rolling smooth and medium speed.
POP was 3 1/2 hours. Fun little course.

Looking to play somewhere which might be a little bit cooler, so figured that maybe Costa Mesa would be the answer. I guess it was cooler, but certainly not cool! Maybe because of the projected heat, not as crowded as expected, so no issue getting out early.

Leef2020's recent review as spot on, really not a lot to add, except I thought the fairways were better than anticipated. Greens were the best part of the course ! Rolled very well and reasonably quick. I enjoy playing here because it has a lot of interesting shots and green complexes. plus the fact that the course does not come in after nine, helps with the issue of "back nine players".

Staff as usual was friendly and accomdating. Fun course which I always enjoy. Certainly not the longest or most difficult, but a great way to start the day

Played Mesa Linda on Monday, 7/2, going at as a 2some at about 1:40pm on a sunny, 70s day, with up to a 1-club wind. Friendly greeting by Andrew in the pro shop.

We breezed through the first 8 holes at a good pace, but caught a very pokey foursome on the 9th hole. They had let two other 2somes and a single in front of us through, but decided to not let our 2some play through for 4 holes, in spite of us being right behind them. As we finished the 13th - they were only 75 yards off the 14th tee - we noticed a 3-hole gap back to the 9th tee, and decided to go back and restart the back 9 to be at a better playing pace. Worked out great, as we got to enjoy a few extra holes, with no waiting, until play was backed up on the 17th tee, with the pokey group still on 18. POP for all that (22 holes) was 4hrs 15 mins.

Course is mostly in pretty good shape. Blue tees were great. Rough typical, not too penal, bunkers were medium-weight. Fairways provided decent, but not great roll-out, and were actively being re-sodded in parts, with at least 3 holes where fairly large portions of the fairways were 'under repair', including most of #14. Easily the worst part of the course on the day. Noticed they have lost some more trees since I was last here in April, and still no clue what their plan is for the crappy bare-dirt mound they created six months ago, left side of the par5 5th hole.

Greens were fantastic yesterday. Cut pretty close, they were rolling mostly smooth at a medium-fast pace. No visible remnants of any punching. Greens also held shots well.

Played Sunday, 5/6. Beautiful day. $38 to walk. 10:15 tee time.

Teeboxes were pretty good, level and green. Not a problem.

Fairways are pretty much a joke right now. Lots of bare patches and hard pan. I was very lucky to get pretty good lies all day.

Greens were just OK. They held shots very well, but were a little bumpy. They were quick downhill, so stay below the hole.

Didn't find any bunkers, but they looked just fine.

Rough wasn't very penal at all, it was mowed down almost like the fairway.

I wouldn't recommend right now due to the fairways. It's a fun course and an easy walk, but maybe wait until they can get the fairways up to playable.
