Twi-light with bro and buds on the Destroyer Thursday 1PM, course uncrowded so PoP was 4 hrs, $29 non-mil walking. Poa greens a tad shaggy here and there but mostly medium pace and true. Bunkers I visited had fine sand, easy to play out. Fairways good cover with occasional bare spots. Rough varied in length from 2-3 inches to non existent.

Always a good choice to play here during the week, very walkable and challenging layout from the blues. Will be back for sure.

I got lucky today. The men's club cancelled. I got a crazy Saturday on line deal. I loved playing here when it was a military only course and still love playing here as a public course. The conditions are above average everywhere out here. Although the greens are not pool table smooth, the ball still will hold its line fairly well. I never was in a bunker but the ones I saw looked very nice. The best part might the fairways. I got many good lies in the fairway today. Some of the once ponds have now become waste areas. The "Tiger Tree" on 18 is 343 yards from the back tees. Yes, I could reach it.:)....from the ladies tees :(

Played today with slight windy conditions. Overall very nice conditions. Some of the greens appears to have been aerated recently. They had visible punch holes but still rolled decent. First time playing this course and would definitely return. Good pace of play 4 hour round.

Played early 5/14. First time here and I must say it is a very fun course to play. Especially when the wind picks up a little bit which I imagine it does quite regularly given the exposure. Really makes you think. Bartender is nice, clubhouse guy was just ok.

Tee Boxes: Probably the worst part but not terrible. Just mostly uneven with a bit of divot damage. I ended adding a few yards to get better spots every so often
Fairways: Good coverage, no bare spots. Mix of grass but kikuyu grass looked dominant.
Rough: Mixed bag, mostly ok with some deep pockets. The trees make it so much harder tho.
Bunkers: Was in greenside only but they were playable if thin. Better make a confident swing.
Greens: Pretty d%mn good for a muni, and very more sloped than I ever imagined. Has some bumpy patches but I really enjoyed them.

Overall very nice for the price and would recommend. Avoid the trees here (they are death) and play to the safe side. It'll save you a lot of strokes.

First off for 1PM twilight on the Destroyer on Tuesday, $26 walking rate, for a semi-windy afternoon round. Teed off a bit early a hole behind the group ahead and caught them at #9, then never had to wait, so PoP was outstanding for an afternoon (just under 4 hrs). Course in good overall condition. Fairways have some thin/bare areas (I did see white lines, so nice that the GUR's are marked) but are mostly full, green with decent cover. Rough can be challenging, cut to 2" or so, and you can be in pine needles or around tree roots depending where you land. In two GS bunkers, one good condition and one a bit thin and unkempt ... both were playable. Greens rolled true at medium speed, only a few unrepaired ball marks ... very green post aeration ... easily held all well struck shots. Good day for golf at the Navy course. Add: Friendly staff, good food ... I'll be back.

Played late Wednesday morning and it took over 5 hours to play (usually takes around 4:40). The greens rolled good and held shots with medium speed. The fairways have good coverage and areas that are typically thin have filled in nice thanks to winter rains. The rough is good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers are fair to good depending on how compacted they are due to moister. The tee boxes are fair to good due to mild unlevelness and were the markers are placed. The layout is flat but has nice variety. Although water comes into play on several holes the greens are the real challenge to the course. Especially if the greens are rolling fast. The staff is friendly.

We went out as a 2 some, behind many groups of 4, so we joined up with the 2 some behind us around 3 or 4.
POP was ok, about 4:40, but it was a good pace for the most part, once we were a 4some.
Course conditions were really good.
Tee boxes, while a little hairy, were mostly flat/level, with good coverage, and good areas to hit from.
Fairways were really good. A well struck shot had some good roll on it, and even if it rolled into the rough, it was very playable.
The few bunkers I were in were decent. Not amazing, but not sub-standard by any means.
The greens were great. I heard they were punched 4 weeks ago, and really were nice. They are extremely large, with large undulations at Navy. Part of the course difficulty are the greens. Must have a good putting day to play well here.

Overall, course is in excellent shape, and had a good pace for a Sunday morning.
I enjoyed the GK Cup match with Bruce, and I look forward to my Round 3 match.

Teed off Thursday, 4/20, at 9:45 finishing in 4.5 hrs. I thing the course maintenance crew had Easter week off. The greens had very little signs of aeration a few weeks prior but they had not been mowed recently. They were shaggy and bumpy. Once the greens are mowed they should be in good shape. The fairways, other than being a little long, had good coverage. The rains earlier this year have helped areas that are normally a little thin grow in nicely. The rough was in good condition with a few thin/bare spots. The bunkers are very compacted (I was in three greenside). The tee boxes are fair to good due to mild unlevelness. I enjoy the varied layout of the Destroyer course. Water comes into play on several holes. The staff is friendly.

The Navy has taken over the running of Food and Beverage at The Navy Golf Course (previously contracted out). The restaurant, as of April 1, is now called the Take 5ive Bar and Grill.

Finally made it back to the wonderful Navy (Destroyer) course this past Sunday for my GK Cup match with Kassper7 and another friend. I'll let Perry do the honors on that write-up as he was victorious in a well-fought match, but as for the course itself - pretty great.

Navy course is certainly a tough one. From the blues there's not only a lot of length to deal with, but also plenty of water comes into play and there are also plenty of trees that can really put a damper on your GIR numbers. There are really no easy holes at Navy - even the par 3s are long and challenging. But it's really fun to test yourself here, especially when it's in great condition.

The fairways really look terrific in all of the areas where it matters. Sure, there are few over-saturated GUR areas from the rains lately, and the occasional dried out area, but overall it's wonderful carpet in all the places you're supposed to be. The rough is cut to a nice length to play out of, however there were some areas where some dirt clumps were sprinkled around as if some tilling machine had cut through there - no idea what that was.

Bunkers were in very nice shape and had ample sand in them, and the fairway bunkers were nice and firm. The only potential gripe were some crowned and slightly thin tee boxes, but even those were only an issue on a handful of holes - most were just fine.

The greens were simply great. Plenty of tough pins and green complexes at Navy, but they accepted well struck shots and rolled very true indeed. Speed was medium fast but very consistent throughout. It also looks like people took care of their ball marks so that's great.

Bummer on the food/drink situation though on a crowded Sunday - the cafeteria was closed and the only food option was a truck out in front of the pro shop, however that truck did not have propane so could not serve any hot food. The snack shop at the 14th hole tee box was closed and there was no cart service all day. That's a bit of downer on what was essentially a great day out on the links (my match play match notwithstanding).

Greens were being aerated this week though so it's going to be a few more until going back, but I would definitely check back in at the Navy course in about 3 weeks for a great day out.
