Played morning of aug 7. A friend and I decided to play a new track that isn't in our normal rotation for a change. We decided on Westridge, and we're interested to see if their new mgmt was making a difference in the golf experience. My observations are: a) I was leery of the course design, since I could see the entire course was built on the side of a hill, similar to Trump National. It was obvious the course architect didn't have a great piece of land to work with. I was prepared to hate it because I could see that you had to be very precise with your lines off the tee - you had to take that severe hill into account. So, for example, for the ball to drift into the middle of the fairway, you must aim left or right of the fairway - it is imperative to play the slopes. The design on the backside was more appealing. Westridge reminded me of DeBell in Burbank; Westtridge is just a bigger version of DeBell. But if you don't like billy-goat, target golf, this isn't your course. It is d%mn tight. If you're not an accurate golfer, try another course because losing a few sleeves will happen. b) The course conditions were spotty; some fairways were like light rough; the rough was inconsistent and choppy; tee boxes were a bit chewy. The greens were smooth and medium quickness. The conditions on the back were better. c) Service was good enough; there was a marshal who seemed to pay attention; pace of play was excellent as we finished in 4 hours. d) I'm not sure I'd play here again because the conditions were a little iffy for me, and I don't like the design. However, the course does force good course mgmt and precision, and I found myself concentrating better than I had in many rounds. I'd give the new mgmt some more time to improve the conditioning, but I think that the better OC option for almost the same click4teetimes price would be Black Gold (although that's another iffy design as well).

I played Westridge on 8/3/11. Our tee time was at 8:49 but of course the buddies were late. Luckily the extremely kind and helpful staff were more than accommodating and always welcoming.

I played Westridge on 8/3/11. Our tee time was at 8:49 but of course the buddies were late. Luckily the extremely kind and helpful staff were more than accommodating and always welcoming.

My friends and I used to play Westridge very often. However, over time, the course was allowed to deteriorate to a level that made playing unpleasant. I am pleased to say that those days are over. Westridge is again the fine public course it used to be. Very nice tee boxes, fairways and greens. The bunkers are on their way to matching the rest of the course. The staff are all new and all very welcoming and professional. There is also a great custom club shop there now.

Overall, I was very impressed and happy to see Westridge return to its old form. I will definitely be back again soon.

I played a twilight round here on Friday afternoon, July 29. This was my first time playing Westridge and I had a great time and will definitely be back. Overall the course was in fair/good condition (6.5/10) and the greens were in excellent condition (8/10). The greens were very true and rolling about an 8 or 9. The pace of play was perfect running at a 4.5 hour round.

The course layout is challenging and places a premium on hitting fairways and greens. That said, the fairways are wide enough and the greens are plenty large, but you do not want to be too errant or your ball will find the thick bush or a parallel fairway that is 50 feet below your fairway. If you need to practice your sidehill lie game this is a perfect course because most holes are built into a sloping hillside and you will have plenty of these lies, especially when in the rough.

Like the previous review, my only complaint is that carts are not allowed on the fairways of some holes. I often had to leave the cart to find my ball and check the distance and then walk back and forth to get the right club. Not really that big of a deal though.

Most of the par 5's are reachable for the long hitters and the par 3 are fairly short, but well protected by bunkers and lateral hazards. My favorite holes were #7 (par 3 over a canyon), #14 (risk/reward par 5 over a canyon), #16 (par 4 with a challening green surrounded by a moat of water), and #18 (beautiful, reachable par 5 with approach shot over a lake with waterfalls). For a twilight round in the $40 range, this is one of the best golf deals that I have seen lately.

Played here with a group of friends on a Friday twilight rate. The course is in decent shape, and it looks like they are working on some areas to make it better. There were a number of spots with new-ish sod. One tee box is particular was totally stripped, so the short par 3 was even shorter as we hit from the front tee box. The sand traps looked like they were being reworked as well, with bright white sand in one trap next to another with a dingy beige sand. The biggest issue is that no one seems to bother to repair ball marks on the green. On a number of the greens, there were ball marks all over the place.

The overall layout is challenging. Not exactly target golf, but you are punished for missing the fairway. On a few holes, you can miss by a lot and be on an adjoining fairway, others you are just out of bounds. Being in the rough frequently means that you are on a side hill, hitting out of what can be thick rough (at least thick for a public course in So. Cal.). But, with the hills on the side, some shots can get a great bounce off the side hills and carom back in the fairway, or at least the edges of the rough.

My biggest complaint is that they were restricting the carts to the cart path for much of the course. So there were a number of instance where I was either caring 3-4 clubs to my ball, or walking to the ball, figuring out the lie and distance, then back to the cart to get what I wanted, then back tot he ball. It makes for slow golf and a lot of walking. It isn't like the fairways are in pristine shape with delicate grass. They look hardy and able to withstand the traffic.

Overall, it was worth the money, even though I played really, really poorly. It looks like they are working on the course, so if that is the case, and they ease up on the cart restrictions, and the players start to actually fix the ball marks on the greens, then this will be a real gem of a public course.

What a change for the better. We got out Friday at noon and finished in 4 hours!!! This used to be home of the 6hour round. I got a chance to speak to the starter beforehand and he said all the right things...fired some Marshalls, changed management team, and staggered tee times nine minutes apart. He also showed me tee sheets and marked the groups on the turn to ensure 215 front nines.

Course was in good condition...greens were kinda slow but thank god BC the pin placements were ridiculous. Bunkers need some raking but not courses fault. Overall, nice change for the better. I will go back soon again.

I played here Saturday the 23rd, first time playing here (probably closest course to my house that I hadn't played). Guys in clubhouse were great, gave me a free yardage book when I told them it was my first time there. Previous posts stated pace of play was an issue here, we tee'd off at 9ish on a Saturday and never waited fishished well before 2.

Course was is okay shape, greens rolled well at about a 9. One thing I learned here is pin high on a back pin is a bad place to be, a two putt is tough on even a 10 footer. Fairways and tee boxes were okay, some bare spots and the fairways were also very hairy in spots, the course was very wet, a lot of mud balls. Bunkers had to much sand, this ended up ruining my round because some jerks didn't rake a trap and I was in an impossible 6 inch deep footprint on a side hill lie (not the courses fault).

Although I think a lot of golfers will and do enjoy this course, it isn't really for me. I hit driver only on holes 3 and 18 and only hit 3 wood once. There were too many holes where I stood on the tee and just tried to draw my 2 hybrid.

Westridge Golf Course is a bit of a Gem for low to mid handicap golfers in the North Orange County area. I was extremely surprised to see John Lepak (currently participating in Golf Channels Indian Wells Big Break) working in the Pro Shop. John was helpful and cordial. I found the starter and marshals to be friendly and professional. The course itself can be quite challenging. The fairways are narrow with undulating terrain and difficult greens. This course in great shape considering all the play it gets. PLEASE if you hit the greens fix your ball marks( you know who you are) and my only complain would be speed of play, but this is quite typical for all courses in the area.

During the past few weeks, we have made plans to make your golfing experience here at Westridge the best possible. We have more structure to our tee booking system through Click4teetimes and Golfnow.com, in connection with our internal systems to make sure that tee times are adhered to and kept on time.

We are in the process of marking the course with 'Pace of Play' boards every 4th hole to ensure that our marshals and starters have a structured timed round for each group.

We are also planning to have alternate 8 and 9 minute intervals for every tee time, every day. This will hopefully ensure a smoother start to your round.

In addition to the above, we have STOPPED 5 somes completely from playing too.

We have had some great reviews recently and understand that these issues above have an adverse effect on how Westridge Golf Club is perceived and hope that these changes will only increase your enjoyment in playing our great, challenging course.
