My oh my how things change. Westridge was known as the place where, unbelievably, you could turn up at 6.10am to find that people had 6.10, 6.12, 6.15 and 6.17 tee times. Most unable to explain why. That's all gone. Some good management decisions have created a totally different kind of tension at the course - just that of the interesting 18 holes they have.

I turned up this Wednesday at 6.15am...all quiet it was....only a four ball and a couple other hanging around...calm and disciplined in the pro shop was new pro Adam Harrison, and so I was able to get straight out. Fantastic.

The course was as tricky and tempting as ever. The first nine on a sideways slope, the second nine on more of a up to down slope. A really great challenge that allows you to open the shoulders but punishes you for not thinking about your approaches.

One thing I was really pleased with was the sand. For winter conditions, it's fluffy, easy, bounceable and well maintained. The green are true, there was a bit of top sand on them, but in a few days they'll be fab.

The new $45 rate seems spot on to me and the whole place just feels more amenable and professionally run. Well done to Adam and the management on this great transition.
Can't wait to go back next week.

Started at the 10th hole which was slightly annoying. Tee time @ 8:30 delayed 30 min. (If the course is forcing half its groups to start @ back 9 to reduce traffic, why did we wait for two groups to tee off? Greed sucks.) 5:15 min. Round. The course is in great condition otherwise. Sand traps are pristine. Greens rolled true. Fairways were like carpet. For the $75 green fee, management needs to start everyone at hole #1 and keep all rounds under 5 hrs. I feel a little SHAFTED.

Played Westridge in La Habra on 12/17. This was my first time playing here since 2009. The course condition has improved a lot. Greens and fairways were in good condition. Sandtraps were excellent. There were couple of tee boxes that needed work, but overall was ok. Last time I was there, the pace of play was terrible with over 5 hours. This time it was 4-1/2 hrs on Sat morning. So pace of play has improved as well. Only thing missing was the cart girl. Didn't see one all morning. Overall, good job for the management for turning the course around and I will definitely be back.

Played On a Sunday 11am. Thought it was going to be slow but it was a real good pace of play for a Sunday, 4 1/2 hours. Saw the Marshall 10 times, seemed to find a course where the Marshall actually does a job. Greens were really good, when they cut these they are going to be awful quick. Fairways were brown in places but good lie's. Sand in the bunkers was fabulous. Real good layout here and is a good option in the OC for the Golfnow specials.

Last Thursday I booked a tee time though GolfNow for Westridge Golf Course for myself and a buddy. Much to my surprise upon arriving, I was alerted that in my haste I had booked for Westlake. This review is being written by a guy who never writes to let people know about the GREAT staff at Westridge. Eric, Brett and Steve went out of their way getting us out on the course without reservation. Again thank you for all your help.

Played 8/22 at 11:40 AM, $25 online special. They have switched the course back to its original routing, you tee off on #1 to start instead of #10. Pace of play was excellent; I went out as a single, joined a twosome on the first tee, and had another group of three in front of us. We waited on nearly every shot but still finished in about 3:45. The man who checked me in at the pro shop was John from the last season of Big Break...what a class act. Very friendly and professional. The starter was also very friendly, as were the cart and maintenance staff. I read that they were trying to turn around their image at this track, and I was very pleased with their progress. Course conditions were pretty good. Tee boxes were mostly level but a little fluffy. Fairways were a bit patchy but playable, same with the rough. The greens were smooth and fairly quick, with hardly any ball marks. A lot of bunkers were under repair, it looks like they are replacing all of the dirt with new, white, fluffy sand. There were adequate water stations, but no beverage cart. Guess the cart girl/guy doesn't work on Monday. Overall for the price I paid I got more than I expected, and will return. Keep in mind that there's lots of OB, environmental areas and some water...bring a few extra sleeves of balls!
