Played 12-30-13. Went out for one last round of the year. Had a 12 noon tee time but they were running behind so didn't get out till 12:15. The customer service here cannot be beat. Every employee was smiling and friendly and seemed genuinely focused on making sure you have a great experience.
The course is in good shape. some tee boxes were chewed up but the bunkers were in great shape. Sand was consistent whether a fairway or greenside bunker. Biggest disappointment were the greens. They looked like they had been verti-cut and had not come close to healing. They ran fairly fast but pretty bumpy. The greens here are very sloped and undulating making for some tough putting. Greens are small and well protected by traps so approach shots must be accurate and preferably high soft landing. Greens held well so you could be aggressive at going for the pin.
There was no cart out but at least they informed you of that before you started.They did not inform me that the greens were not in good shape though. Pace of play was terrible. It was so slow the starter came out to our group to tell us we should probably play the front 9 again or we would not finish before dark. With a noon tee time that should not have been an issue. As it was we decide we would rather play the front again than spend the rest of the day waiting. I had played here a few years ago and did not have a good image of the course but I enjoyed what I saw of it and would be willing to play here again except that the price seemed quite high compared with other courses near by.

Teed off @ 6:52A, played the blues (71.0/129/6375) in 4H on a bright, breezy morning for $29. We finished just before 11A and it was already 111 degrees. The greens are nicely recovered from recent aeration, medium fast but still a little bumpy. The sand traps were well maintained. They are beginning to sand some of the fairways, the unsanded ones were generally lush, as was the rough. The tees are decent overall, but some of the par 3's needed some attention. The layout is a good mixture of holes, and there is plenty of sand and water to catch any crooked shots. Not as tight as most desert courses even though nearly every hole is lined with homes as the course works it's way through a retirement community. The customer service was a ++, complimentary range balls and water, plus due to the heat the marshall was delivering water to groups on the course. Added bonus, they sign you up for their bonus rewards club card, and after completing your 1st round, they send you an e-mail good for 30% off your next round. Good middle of the road alternative in the Palm Springs area.

1st time playing here, 2nd round of the day with RGM2525. Played on a Golfnow $19 deal, we were matched up with a nice English senior, Graham, who could play... we played the blues (6375/71.0/129) in 4 hours. We teed off @ 10:15A in nice weather conditions for this times of year, a little breezy and slightly less than 100 degrees. The greens were the best part of the course, medium fast, usually smooth. I could see the lines well on these greens. The traps were well maintained with nice, fluffy sand. The fairways and rough were decent, not great. A few areas were brown or even hardpan, but you usually had a decent lie. The tees were a different matter. The Bermuda hasn't come back and if they over seeded the tees last winter, it is gone. Many tees had large bare spots on them, some of the poorest I have played in quite some time. The layout meanders through homes in a retirement community, which normally I don't care for. However, this one, I liked, four par 5's and five par 3's for a par of 71. It wasn't too tight and had a good variety of holes. Complementary water and range balls to go along with ++ customer service. I would definitely play here again.

I agree with the previous review, there are far better courses to play around the Coachella Valley. Most especially if you only come a few times and are aiming to play the premium courses.

We were there over the weekend, May 18 & 19. With a player's card, the green fees are $31. The restaurant has decent food and beverages.

As far as current playing condition of the course, I will give it an overall low of "7.2".

The greens were very decent, it may have stimpped to an 8.5 to 9. It was hard but smooth and very playable.

The fairways ran well and I loved it, although there was an issue on the par 5, hole #15. it was cart paths only after our tee shots. The sight did not look good aesthetically, but it was playing pretty good!

The bunkers remain to be in good quality playing condition. At least, there are sand in the bunkers I was in while the rest of the many bunkers appears to have good sand quality for play.

The teeing grounds were healthy as the tee sets moved around to accommodate for nice new grass.

The roughs there are always down on this course. Very seldom do they let it grow to where it would be difficult to get out of. It's a pleasure to know that the most you could get into will be about 2 inches deep and not much more if any. Nevertheless, it is in good playing conditions along the rough sides.

With that said, I'd like to mention that we frequently play this course. It is a fun course to jump onto and try to score low with the correct greens fee for the good and fun playable golf course.

Busy couple of days in the desert, starting with my round yesterday afternoon at Shadow Hills. I had a 2:07 tee time and ended up teeing off around two paired with a nice couple from BC—pace at just a little over 4 hours. Paid $42 on ezlinks and it was worth that price. However, I've mostly been seeing prices of $85-plus for this course lately and I wouldn't say it's worth that. Solid course all around, but there are plenty of better options in the Valley in the same price range, if you ask me. The wind was not too bad on the front nine, but by the time we got to the back, it was howling. The back is longer and tougher to begin with, and the wind is dead in your face the last 5 holes. It's a brute when the wind is blowing! The conditions were good overall. If compared to most other SoCal courses, I would say conditions here were "excellent." But by Coachella Valley standards this time of year, I would say they are so-so. The fairways were very nice. Mostly quite lush, green and great to hit off of, but with some thin/brown patches scattered throughout, too. The rough was just in OK shape I thought. It was cut down a lot, so not too penal. Tee boxes great. Bunkers nice. The greens had a thin top coat of sand. A little bumpy here and there, but not terrible. One thing I did like about them was how much bite you could get on chips and wedge shots, so it was fun to be aggressive. The greens are very large here and feature a lot of undulation. Some of the back pins were tucked in very tough places, so it helped to be able to fly it up to the right shelf and make it stick. I did like Shadow Hills overall and would recommend it for the right price. Solid all around experience. But with so many other great options in the desert, it would be further down on my own list.

Last Saturday was fun. They had an early morning shotgun and a few regulars showed up. 12:00PM is twilight., but then they just scalped the whole course last Monday. So, I guess, this post isn't going to help much, but just to let everyone know, even before all this maintenance, the course held its own and had a wonderful playable course as always is my experience with this little par 71, with 6800 or so yards. I can't wait to comeback and play it again even though I've played it more than a few times.

Overall good conditions tee through greens. Love Curly Schmidt designs. Big and engaging greens complexes, with challenges for shot making. Nice bunkering, good layout and customer service; with a good prac-fac included.
The fairways are letting dry and prepping for seeding on Monday (see alert).
Worth it with a deal.

Course was in good shape. Fairway were lush. The greesn were a little slow. I thought they were a little bumpy but my buddy thought they were nice and smooth.
Always a must play when I go visit the desert.

Shadow Hills GC has never let us down when it comes to asking the pro shop for information about the course conditions-- always to the T. Customer service remains to be very pleasing-- no bevcart -- but they gave us 4 bottles of water "each" at check in and the marshal came out a couple of times and offered us Gatorades.

The greens have healed from early this month's aeration. The bunkers remain to be in good, with consistent sand quality, conditions. The fairways were a little wet, but it still rolled some, and their teeing grounds are just fine.

All in all, the course conditions are to be desired. The $24 round this (09/16/12) Sunday morning was more than worth it!
