Played this AM, course is in good shape, staff is as always happy to see ya,, food and drinkies are very good and reasonable,, nothing fancy, just a fun day of golf. Greens LOOK Good, but some are like velcro and some are fast and some are lumpy with footprints..... But, its an OK way to spend the day with friends.... we will return.

they run great internet deals almost daily...get on their list...played today for $32 with cart and a sleeve of nike's....course condition is great!!! Greens are soft but nice...go play!!!!

Played April 11. Greens are almost completely healed. Have to look close but the ball does bounce sometimes. Greens are a "tad" slow because of this. New sand in bunkers. Everything else is just as go... Continue »

Everything else is just as good as you could imagine. Can't beat the practice area with 2 putting greens and chipping green with bunker.

The General is in its pre-spring glory, the greens are as good as ever fast and smooth, cups cut proper. Generally I play early AM and course can get a little wet, but as the morning progresses, so do the greens, progressively FAST! From the tips the course plays long because you get no roll in the fairways. Its a great test and the par threes are a good challenge to shoot them in par. The pro staff, managed by Head Pro Kiki Garcia is great along with there fully stocked pro shop with a great selection of equipment and apperal. They offer outstanding stimulus online golf with free balls and lunch, so check them out with Donovan website. Also I would like to applaude Greens Super Mr. Cuellar, for his outstanding work he does keeping this course in Country Club condition. See you all next week as General Old is on my groups weekly rotation. Keep up the great work and thanks for maintaining one of the best courses public or private in So. Cal.

Played 3/3/09, 8:29a.m., w/regular foursome. It is busy here, but the clubhouse staff is friendly and efficient. The clubhouse is gorgeous for one as "old" as this, and the surroundings are quiet. The fairways... yes, bumpy, but one shouldn't drive so fast in the golf car that it bounces the riders around. Must say, on the first hole, 3 of us pulled our shots to the left. The driving range is close, so be careful if you hit to the left, to avoid "incoming." One of the 4-some did lose his ball on this first hole, so he wasn't happy with the 8 he scored. Almost all of the greens are raised targets, so choose 1/2 to 1 club more than you think or see on the well-placed distance stakes. The greens roll true for putts, but you'll be surprised when your approach shot holds... come in high. They are great! The difference between the greens and the fairways give this course decided character. We loved it. The clubhouse food is delicious and reasonably priced, and they have an extensive menu. Drinking water on the course is sparse, so you might want to carry bottled water with you, at least during the week. The cart barn staff is friendly, too. We loved it! By the way, read the notes and letters from the military posted on the various wall boards in the restaurant/clubhouse area.

The General always kicks my butt. This track plays a lot tougher than the 70.1 rating/116 slope for me. So even though I never have a good round here I will try to be fair.

The General always kicks my butt. This track plays a lot tougher than the 70.1 rating/116 slope for me. So even though I never have a good round here I will try to be fair.

First the positives: The practice green is in excellent shape and they have a separate chipping green and a decent driving range. Most of the greens are in good shape for the price you pay. There is some divot damage but overall the greens are true, medium speed, and well maintained. The course layout is also challenging with many doglegs, some blind tee shots, and well placed hazards. Its seems that almost every green is well protected with bunkers.

Although I'm not going to gripe too much given the price, many of the tee boxes and fairways are not in very good shape. It's difficult to find a level spot on many of the tee boxes and the fairways are ragged in many areas.

The customer service in the pro shop is good but there was no cart girl on a Saturday with a full field.

This course is ok for the price but it just doesn't fit my eye and I struggle every time I play here.

Played earlier today 12/29 with two of my friends. First time on this course. Wasn't too impressed with the tee boxes (very uneven, but lush), the fairways (lots of brown spots), or the "rough" (more like hard-packed dirt), but was incredibly impressed with the greens...they were soft, but fast, and lush and green with no bare spots. If they only took as much care with the rest of the course as they do with the greens, they'd have a real winner! The course is a fun layout with a mix of narrow and wide fairways, smaller greens guarded by sandtraps, and a great view of the local snow-capped mountains. Customer service was great as well as friendly groups of players both before and after us. As a vet, I was touched by the letters from servicemembers posted in the clubhouse, and I was given a rough dose of reality when I heard the faint volleys from the Honor Guard performing last rites at the Riverside National Cemetary next door. Beautiful day for golf, and overall, the General wasn't a bad place to visit.
