Played Sunday 3-7-2010, Rained the night before and you couldn't tell. Drains well. the greens were very soft, and rolled true. Bunkers were good. Tee boxes were great. Nice staff. The course is laid out great. gentle dog legs and slight elevation changes. just enough to make it challenging, but if you drive the ball well you can score here. practice area is great. grass driving range with a great chipping area and bunker practice. Great price also.

The Old General was the usual. Haven't seen a review on this course recently, therefore here goes. Great course! Fairways need help but greens are very nice. Plays very different between Blue's and White's, so a few rounds give you a very different experience. Surprisingly tough from the Blues! Great rates and not crowded, and snack bar is good and very reasonable. Great staff! Worth playing it for sure. I was plesantly surprised and I reccommend it for something fun and different.

I was a little hesitant in playing this course because of the earlier review, but it didn't turn out to be bad at all (thanks to the 2-for-1 Red-dot coupon $23.50 each). True there are some drainage problems in some spots, but overall, the course was in pretty good condition. The problem that I had with this course was that it is just too FAR!! If you want to come out of your way to play golf, go to the SCGA or Menifee-both close to this course, but 10x's better. This course reminded me of El Prado with all the dirt surrounding it. If you're off with your drives, you'll be hitting off of dirt. There's a lot of retired military that play here and they really play slow.

Played in a tournament in the mid-morning on Saturday, 10/10/09, on a cool, foggy morning that became a warm sunny day with only light breezes. Low fee course shows low cost conditioning – many not-level or mushy tees, poor lies on fairways, “rough” is mostly anthill-infested baked hardpan. Many areas in fairways and around greens overwatered and mushy. Greens are small and have traps close by filled with coarse pebbly sand, so greens wind up with lots of little rocks all over them. Greens held shots and rolled consistently at medium speed. No cart girl, but good prices in the snack bar. Chicken salad sandwich was very good. Good practice facilities – driving range has grass, chipping green, 2 putting greens. No GPS or yardage book; yardage from stakes along holes. Course plays pretty long as a result of wet conditions, long par 3s, elevated greens. OK for a casual round.

Drawbacks are the bunkers are hard and the tee boxes not level. The course is always green and the staff is always helpful. Can't find a decent course that isn't punching in the inland area? Come here.

I teed off today, Sunday, at about 11am with a $39 internet package-deal. The course is in its usual, above average condition. The greens were a little soggy and slow, but I imagine they have no choice in Riverside in the summer. If you have never played this course, I think you will find it to be a stern test of golf from the blue tees. I have taken a handful of good rounds into the back nine, only to have them ruined by an unrelenting series of demanding tee shots and afternoon wind. Good service, a grass driving range, and a retro snack bar with fair prices.

Also, they have a bulletin board where they request that you bring books, magazines, and other items for service people in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you're headed out there to play, give the pro shop a call and see what might be needed.
