Ok let's start with the negatives here, cuz there are a few. Fairways and rough is dormant, brown and in many places, non-existent. Conditions do not look appealing. Many areas are just sand or hard pan and fringe around greens is basically tilled dirt. That said, this course to me is still fun and crazy challenging, makes you thinks and plan your shots and even in these poor conditions, is playable. Palm Springs lush this is not.
However, greens were smooth and in great shape, holes perfectly cut, minus a lot of small divots (always an issue here). Pace of play great, no one in front or behind us all day. Starter had us go on back 9 first so we didn't ever run up on anyone. Customer service always perfect. Tees were lush and level, mostly dormant. Sand was ok, sort of, some rocks and not a lot of sand, but playable for the most part.
The only major problem here, and seems to be a consistent issue, summer, fall, winter, spring, is the fairways/rough (pretty much the same thing here).
All said, I still love this course, with all it's crazy burns and such. Felt like Scotland today with the wind and all (except it was 78 degrees!). I've played it enough I know it well but looking at it today I understand how many would run from here. You really have no idea what's in store for you on most holes if you don't have it memorized and the dormant conditions don't help you see where you may need to aim. I'm hoping spring brings good conditions here and they can show of this gem that Cal Olson created.

The BF dragged me out here on Christmas Day. There were just a few of us on the course. We started the back 9 first (glad to get the hardest holes out of the way first!) and then did the front 9. Pace of play has never been an issue here. We finished today just under 3.5 hours and we were taking our time. Didn't see anyone ahead of us or behind us. Not a green spot on the course except for the greens. Fairways and tee boxes were dry and dormant. Tee boxes were level but not a green spot of grass on them. Fairways were dead as well, no green grass and most of the time was hard pan, but golf balls roll on the fairways. Lots of "just dirt" areas in the fairways. Greens were green, some divot marks though. I was in a few bunkers and they were hard pan as well, not much sand in them and the bunkers that I was in had quite a few rocks in them. Service is great as always, staff was very friendly. I am not a fan of this course but I do end up getting dragged here on occasion and still do not like it.

I played the Links, Friday, 11/15. I always enjoy it here, despite questionable conditions, it's like Disneyland for golfers. One of the best layouts that I have played.

I played the Links, Friday, 11/15. I always enjoy it here, despite questionable conditions, it's like Disneyland for golfers. One of the best layouts that I have played.
This is my 6th time are so playing the Links and I have kind of given up hope of ever playing this course, where I will rate conditions above good, I would like to, but probably will not happen. The biggest problem here is the fairways, some holes have many bare and sandy areas. Despite that, I was only in one of these areas all day! it should have been marked ground under repair, it wasn't, but I treated it that way anyway. I play in the afternoon here and there were some wet areas in the low areas and I assume this is worse in the morning, but overall fairways were fair-good.
T's were flat, firm but way to long, effected a couple of my shots, when I Teed it low into the wind.
Greens rolled good and med-fast, but has more scars and ball marks than average.
I still get confused on 10-14 holes, so know where you are going, get a guide or read the tips below for help along with the GPS.
The rates here are good, pace of play has always been good, with no pressing in front or behind, no cart girl today. Recommended.

WOW, I spent the summer traveling and playing golf. I haven't been here since June or so. I met up with some old friends for an afternoon game yesterday....... WTH happened to this place?????????????? Worst condition I have ever seen! I guess you could play if you brought along your own mat to hit off of. Almost no grass in the fairways and if you were lucky enough to find a patch it was full of rocks. I damaged a nice wedge from a fairway. The course should pay me back for it! I hear Trilogy bought the course? Good to know that there will be 2 courses that have lousy fairways to play on out in the IE! Don’t know how to put it any other way but the IE is going the wrong direction!

Sorry, I may get long winded here... I have always loved this course... It is in my opinion one of the best layouts anywhere. Cal Olson designed a links masterpiece. I also understand, and have defended the course for the conditions people have complained about over the years, however, today, I can no longer defend the conditions. They are in my best description, poor playable. The good... Tee boxes excellent, greens decently fast and less divots than usual, very receptive and consistent, a "few" real nice sand traps. Cart girl... Daelynn... Awesome.. The bad.. Little issue with the starter holding us up for 20 minutes past our tee time with no one in sight because he wasn't sure if the men's group had finished their turn from 18. Turns out they had, but why are you holding a twosome up with no one coming for a long amount of time? I don't give a crap about the men's club. Let me tee off! If you were running behind, fine, but this was kinda dumb. Fairways are TERRIBLE! 20% good, 20% wet and soggy, 20% mud, 20% hardpan and 20% basically a hard packed sand trap. It doesn't matter how much you water here right now, grass doesn't grow from dirt (as TeaGal said while we were playing). Shots from the fairway on the dirt were like shots from the waste bunker, no difference. All the low lying areas were mud or soggy grass, all the high spots were completely bare. I have never seen it so bad. Traps on the front 9 were horrible. Some rocks were, no lie, 3-4" big. WHY are there rocks, let alone boulders in the traps!? I blame groundskeeping here. Someone maintaining this course should see these boulders. They are in plain sight. It's like working at Ralph's and walking around a spaghetti sauce spill in the middle of the aisle. Unacceptable groundskeeping here. I don't care what weather you had this summer. Palm Springs has no problem maintaining their courses. This is one of my favorite courses anywhere, but I have to say it will be a while before I try it again. I heard the owners of Trilogy bought it. They should close it for a month or two and get it in shape. Playable? Yeah, I guess, but poor groundskeeping. PLEASE new owners, fix this course!! It has the potential to be one of the best anywhere.

Played here today. Was held up by the starter for about 20 extra minutes because he wasn't sure if the men's club tournament had gone through or not. Lots of spots on the fairways that had no grass or just plain dirt. Sand on the front had a lot of large rocks in them and no one seemed to rake after themselves. The back 9 sand traps were a bit better, some hard packed and fluffy. Greens were nice and soft but seemed like no one had repaired their divots. Quite a few bare spots on green. Tee boxes were probably the best thing on that course, lush and grassy. I was disappointed in the course condition. Very poor condition. Staff at the pro shop was nice, cart girl was around and friendly.

We played Summerly on a weekday . They offer a good special , 36 holes for $31 with a cart . The farways are in poor shape so if you land your ball on a bare spot you just move your ball to some grass... Continue »

We played Summerly on a weekday . They offer a good special , 36 holes for $31 with a cart . The farways are in poor shape so if you land your ball on a bare spot you just move your ball to some grass . The tee boxes are in good shape & so are the greens . With the farways in poor shape there was less people on the course . We played 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. It was fun not having no one in front of you . Loved it !!!

Skip this place.....two reasons.

Skip this place.....two reasons.
First, it's in bad shape...there are dead areas EVERYWHERE......sure a links style course is expected to be a bit browner than most places .....but dead areas ...no way. The fairways can be tough to hit sometimes with difficult to assess sight lines.....and when you do you're rewarded with a dead, dirt lie!?
Second, they ding you for a GPS fee that isn't advertised in the price. You show up and expect to pay "x" and then they ding ya with a nice fee. Surprise! You ask, can i not use? No, required. That's garbage in my book..sorry. Skip this track until they get a handle on how to water a golf course. It's just a joke really given how cool this summer has been. Great , very strategic layout.
