Played here for the first time in June 2013. got out around 11 for a birthday round. my wife who is a beginner was in tow. great time of day to have her out, no one in front and no pushing from behind. i just kept her moving , double boggy and and ball in hand. keep her from getting to frustrated. the course plays much harder from the tips and in the afternoon then the USGA slope would show. 142 but that's a tough trek in any yard. Made the mistake of playing here my first time blind, not a good course for that . old style links plenty of run on the fairways but burns will get you if you don't know they are there. many forced carries to the greens . Course was in good shape, plenty of challenges await. 19th hole is awesome 1 of the best around , but the food is great. prices are very good. All he staff is great, i cant tell you how nice that is. so wanna have fun, head out around 11 to 1 when the wind is picking up and experience something you may not see anywhere else. and have fun.

played 5/7 early, rained on a couple of holes but perfect weather otherwise. this did impact the sand traps & waste areas, many bunkers were terrible. one hole, can't recall which maybe 17, the entire fairway is under repair. you can't see a safe place to land from the teebox, it looks like they're digging for dinosaurs. fun course, not much traffic to speak of, the marshall came out & watched us on a hole or two, i think he was bored. get out and play there before the 1000 degree weather in lake elsinore.

Played this morning and will say that the staff make this a great place to lose a ball. The course is in great shape and getting better. People should remember that this is a Links style course and is not for every player. I have seen the improvement of the facility since being purchase by the McMillin Group, the same owner of Redhawk. The course has great views and is a fantastic place to play if you like wind and short tight fairways. The greens roll well but you must use a lot of touch or drop the ball with a fair amount of spin. Your putter can be your best friend from around the greens...I know. Definitely worth the drive and the green fee.

Played the course on 4/26. I've played here a few times and the course has never been in what I'd call in great shape. Yesterday was no exception. The tee boxes were in good shape and the greens were decent but slow. The sand traps were mediocre and the fairways were horrible. One of the issues seems to be over-watering of the fairways which in turn effects the traps. Many of the sand traps were obvious collection points for run-off; while there was no standing water the bottom of the traps were damp and in some cases crusted over from the water. There were many places in the fairways that were soggy to the point where you could hear the water slosh as you drove over the area in the cart. There are quite a few bare spots in the fairways that aren't small but are quite large. The worst hole, however is the 17th. It seemed like nearly half the fairway was "ground under repair". There were very large areas in the middle of the fairway that had been dug up and replaced with sand several inches deep. From the tee box it looked like the fairway was more sand trap than fairway. Both my partner's and my drives ended up in one of these repair area and it was a bit of a challenge to even find a place remotely close to the original landing spot to hit the next shot from. It seems like the head groundskeeper really wasn't thinking about playing the course when he decided this was the way to deal with the fairway issues.

Let me just say I am a huge fan of this course and will play it as often as possible almost regardless of conditions. This course has an awesome mix of holes, no two feel the same and the challenges of a true links course will deter many golfers or cause many reviews to possibly be less than complimentary. At best course looks like a giant fairway with awesome roll and good scoring opportunity. At worst, it has been muddy and soggy and very thin with dry hard bunkers and good greens but lots of divots. That said, it has still always been playable and offers a very different round than other courses because you are playing the elements here as much as the course. Yesterday was a great day here.
Greens were in fantastic shape, a hair slower than normal, but very nice and very few divots! Just punched with small holes and honestly not even noticeable. Tee boxes always lush and level. Fairways still pretty dormant but very playable. Sand varied from poor to hard with some top layering to good on a back hole. A good dumping of some fresh sand this spring would be awesome. Pace of play was fantastic. Rough same as fairways, just cut a hair higher as is common here, again, it's supposed to be that way.
Starter, pro shop and cart girl terrific as always. I highly recommend this course.

We managed to get out yesterday, Sunday the 24th. Pretty busy but we had some slow pokes in our groups so the pace was stable, I guess. The course is looking better than our last time around a couple weeks back. They finally managed to get some grass grown around the lay up and chipping areas around the greens. They also didn’t have anymore green painted fairways! With this being said, its still a far cry from the old days of Summerly. I will give the guys props on the efforts though!The greens were as good as I have seen them in some time, with a fast, smooth roll. They are still firm and even with a good shot, with spin, they don’t have the “insta- checki” that most courses have....... but that’s the nature of the course! The only draw back are the usual suspects that haven't figured out the uses of the rake. I was in a greenside bunker on #16 and got up and down from a clean lye...... thankfully, the no rake dip sh$t s didn’t find that one..... but I saw some unbelievably trampled bunkers that looked like some idiot was digging for clams in...... or maybe for china! Anyway, it was a decent day on the links...... too bad they had to punch the greens today, and just when they were getting good...... oh well, part of the deal! We are hoping they recover well and quickly and come back even better! FF OUT!

3/9/13 - Played this course with husbands Saturday Group. Thankfully with the recent rains that week the greens were quite nice. I'm assuming since we were the first groups going out that day that's a significant indicator as to why there were little to no ball marks on the greens (nice). Greens rolled quite true, medium/fast speeds. Fairways were quite thin, ground under repair on several, and had to chuckle at the green painted grass. Bunkers were hard pack (two I got in). Early morning tee times help keep you out of the winds that do tend to pick up around mid-day. Some holes are hard to determine where to play your shot to. Blind doglegs w/hazards. Helps to have played the course before, otherwise you'll be in for several surprises for sure. Not a big fan of the burns (especially with fairways being as thin as they were)...my typical shot wouldn't roll out so far (and into burns) :( Overall though, I did enjoy the course...different than the typical parklike courses we play. You have to take your cart to get to the chipping area and even futher for the driving range. They (Starter) is very stern about not going after your ball if it goes out past the red stakes with a green top...DON'T go in after them...if you have a long enough ball retriever to reach it fine, but it you get caught they'll ask you to leave the course. Clubhouse was nice, and their BBQ brisket special was Yummy. You can find some pretty good deals for this course. First time we played it we weren't overly impressed with the pace of play, severe divot/ball mark damage, and obvious disregard locals have for this otherwise beautiful course. Would I ever play it again???? Probably, but not one I'd eagerly play routinely.

Played 3/17/13. Yes the fairways are dormant and a little rough in some spots but I thought the course was very playable. Greens were great and rolled mostly smooth at medium pace. Sand needed some work. Tee boxes were okay and the rough is non existant. You can get a great deal playing on the weekends here. I will be back.

The only reason i played here today is because the first time i played was after the floods so not fair to them to lose me because of that although now i will never play there again not even to use my birthday round not worth my time.. The staff where very nice even during the 2 hr frost delay. Sorry for venting.
