played today early morning 5-3. First time playing this course. Wanted to play this course for a while but its a long drive from Los Angeles. After reading the past couple reviews of this course didn't know what to expect. One reviewer states it was the worst experience of his 25 years of playing, other states it was challenging but gave it a 4.2 rating. I give the course a 6. The course does have many bare spots on the fairway, but its not that bad. I was in a couple of bunkers and thought it had a decent amount of sand in them. Tee boxes were nice and leveled, greens were a firm and a little bumpy but rolled alright. Layout was interesting with the burn in play on some holes. Rough is non existence. Customer service was great.

This was a neat challenging course. A lot of the holes you cannot see your landing area or even the green a head of you. If it is the first time playing it can be challenging because you do not even know what direction the green is on some holes. There were more fairway bunkers on this course than another course I have played. Most of the tee shots are very intimidating because of the bunkers. Overall I really enjoyed this course. I came from OC so it is a drive but the cost was worth it.

After all the bad reviews I was not expecting good playing conditions however the course is more than playable. Yes there are some bare spots on the fairways but this links course is not in that bad of shape. I was expecting them to be harder but they were not that bad. Greens roll okay but they are very slow. You certainly have to think your way around this course which I like. It's certainly a good challenge. For $35.00 at 10:30 am on a Sunday it's a super deal. Pace of about 5 hrs which is slow but wasn't too too bad. I will certainly be back to play this track.

This is the first review that I have ever written. The Links at Summerly was so bad that I felt the I had to let people know that might not want to waste there money like I did. I have been playing golf now for well over 25 years. I have seen alot of really nice courses and quite a few bad ones. Links at Summerly has got to be the worst I can remember. Price to play $51.00 and I wouldnt pay a dime over $25.00 to play this course. Tee boxes were ok, fairways vary bare to almost bald in many areas, bunkers no sand in waste areas, ok sand near greens, greens punched 2 weeks ago 4/2/12, which I was not told of when I called to make a tee time, Rough now existent. I can say the course was almost dead. I quit after 9 holes which this was the first time due to course conditions. I went into the pro shop after 9 hole to discuss my feelings and the gentlemen behind the counter said "that's a way a links style course is suppose to be. Well I haven't been to Scotland to play golf yet but, us Americans like to hit off of green grass. I hope this helps someone to not waste there money, and maybe someone from Summerly will read this an fix there golf course, cause its golf course has alot of potential to being good. But not right now.

Not a GO GREEN condition for this course as shown - greens are still very bumpy from being plugged two weeks ago. Fairways have some bare spots and many, many tight lies in fairways.\. Good to find out that the McMillin Corporation has taken over course, same owner as Redhawk. Course has improved since last playing here a couple years back. Fun to play for those who have never seen a Links style course. Service was good and staff very friendly if you enjoy five hour rounds.

Took advantage of a golf coupon for 2 expiring on 1April, and a day off from work to play this course with my husband; mainly to "experience" the Links styled course. Keeping in mind we had recently received major rain the prior weekend, in addition to this Sunday pm, we figured the bunkers would most likely be very hard/and some containing water. The bunkers were terrible to get out of...like hitting of concrete. Wind was minimal as we teed off at 1245 (Lake Elsinore region is notorious for winds, but we lucked out today 3/26/12).
Tee boxes were quite nice. Fairways were narrow and TIGHT....got a LOT of Rolllllll (which I like), so for heavy hitters with bullet shots, sometimes shots can run away. The hard pan areas contained some water, and 90 degree rule was in effect as fairway low areas were mushy. Bottom-line, if you can hit consistently straight away - no problem ;) Not palying here before it was nice to have a local course player join us and warn us about the many burns which really make you think (fly it or lay up...) Tees were Lady Friendly... I even got a birdied Hole 7 Par 4 (hdcp 17). Sunk a nice 60' +/- putt on 12. Greens were buggered up with tons of ball marks and apparently there was a disgruntled or "immature" golfer in one fo the groups ahead of us as the MASSIVE damage on the greens was blatant disrespect to the course and follow on players. Actualy chunks of green skun off, Huge mallet dents, holes punctured by flag sticks, chunks of grass/dirt/etc... Unbelieveable.... Have Never seen that much blatant damage to greens on ANY course we've ever played. Sad/Pathetic. (Yes we mentioned it to the clubhouse folks, but they didn't act as if they really cared). The clubhouse area/check in was very nice, carts are comfy/fast/and contain GPS systems (which you mush pay an additional $1.00 per person to use). We showed up for our tee time warm ups and when I asked if there was a starter to advise us when we could go, the lady at the desk simply said...Oh, just go when you're ready. Sooooooooooo, everyone was just showing up and going when they wanted...no structure at all, so the pace of play got bunched up with people (singles, double, 4somes) just going out when they wanted. Kind of left me with the feeling it was more of a used and abused local muni course than a top notch establishment. Don't get me wrong...we did enjoy our round (after fixing the many issues with every green), and it was Great getting out and trying something different. The fairways were so tight it was like hitting off matts, so I was better with my irons than my hybrids. Bunkers were terrible to get out of... what sand was in them was slightly gravely and with the rains, very compact. Burns were marked with red stakes, and GPS did assist with distances. If you can hit high, land soft, you are ahead of the game. :) Hitting low bullets can get you on, but then roll off that back on several holes. Makes you rethink your approach and the game in general. Overall, (the negatives aside), it was a Great outing and worth the cost of the golf coupon I had purchased online. My finishing score was a 101 and hubby shot a 79 (which is about 5-6 strokes higher than his normal score on Par 72s), so it is a bit of a challenge for first timers. Worth going just to say you played the Links at Summerly. :)

Yes, the course is thin in most spots and course knowledge is a must, but this is links type golf and should be what you expect when you go there.

The course is more than playable but you do have to understand how to play it with the added run-out on nearly every shot. However, if you can hit it high and have it land soft, that is a big advantage on some tee shots and approaches into the greens. I personally love playing here because of the challenge and thinking involved.

One other thing you do have to get used to out there are the bounces: Some are good, some are great, some are bad and some will make you cry. Live with 'em, because that's links golf!

Greens= Firm but roll nicely. Tough to repair divots due to the greens thinness. So it takes a little work to repair correctly.

After round complimentary hot dog= Firm. The gal working the grill was just getting used to working it. So the first few where crispy, but not too bad.

I love the challenge and layout of the course. Its such a change from most courses in so. cal. but it needs to get in better shape before I return.

Lastly, their customer service is usually great. The guy working the pro shop was very cool, but the starter shouldn't be telling folks what to do on the first tee outside of local rules etc.. She tells us, "don't take a mulligan or breakfast ball please on the first hole, we are very busy today" Our response "excuse me but we play GOLF" Mulligan, breakfast ball, really? I also mentioned to her that our carts brakes do not function well and when she gets a minute send out for a better cart. She states "I doubt that will happen as we are booked up today?" whatever... on hole 11 we are approached by a marshal who tells us that its bottle-necking on 7 8 and 9. He warns us that we may get a few groups being pushed or skipping holes...wtf?? We seen no one a hole and a half behind us. We did notice a backup all along the front nine when we finished. - Don

Played here 3/9/12. Excellent customer service and the greens and most greenside bunkers were in excellent. Unfortunately the fairways and most of the other waste area bunkers/some fairway bunkers were in poor shape. Most fairways had a large amount of GUR areas or bare dirt covering at least 20% of the fairways. I will come back for the greens and great customer service but something needs to be done about the fairways.
