I have played the Links at Summerly on many occasions even during the flooded conditions in 2010-2011. The course is very unique- links style with water features. The pro shop, restaurant, carts and staff are all top notch and rates are very reasonable in today's economy. I enjoy every outing at the Links. Lots of ball marks on the greens but they do not affect the roll. Course is fair and can be a challenge. Worth the trip to Lake Elsinore. Right next to the Diamond Stadium where the Padres Single A minor league team plays and the skydivers and parachutists next to the course add to the unique golfing experience.

Played this morning (mon Jan. 30) & with a tee off time of 8:08. Service at hand in the pro shop was exceptional given the fact that it wasn't too busy. We were able to tee off right ahead of our tee time which was nice. Golf carts were ready to go with scorecards & pencils. Overall impression for service, Good!
The course condition was great! From viewing the course up at the pro shop the fairways were green and the rough is a brownish color which they said was dormant. Don't let that color fool you because every lie in the rough was good, to my surprise. The greens were rolling great even though they had some spotted ball marks. Thankfully there was no wind like there had been all weekend, it really made for a fun round.
Since I live right over the hills from the Links, I took them up on a Superbowl shotfun offer that they had for Sunday the 5th. The flyer states a 59 dollar green fee which includes a lot and it starts at 8:00. Definitely worth coming out for!
I played today for $35 but they had a charge of $1 for the GPS that I was not aware of before visiting. However, the GPS does come in handy on holes where there are ditches that wiggle through the fairway. Price was right for a nice early weekday round!

The only thing making this not a true links course is there is a lot of water features. Otherwise it plays very firm and fast. Drive one down the middle and it bounces like it hit a cart path. 300yd plus drives common, but not necessarily a good thing as it will run out into burns and mounding which might send them anywhere. The only way to know if your in the fairway or rough is if your in the "paint". The fairways are sprayed with that liquid green fertilizer. Gives the course a good look from afar, but when you get on them it's a strange neon green. Greens are thin but covered no bare spots. Many of the greens here are sloped front to back thus a front pin placement on a downslope is impossible to hold, ya got to run those up. cart have the generic GPS system. Front back and center yardages seem good but burn yardages are iffy at best. more than a few times I noticed 170 to carry burn 200 to front of green when in fact the burn is 5-10 yards from front of green. If you like this style of golf it's well worth the $35 green fee. If you take a big divot your gonna hurt by the middle of the round.

I played here the Friday before Christmas for the first time and was greeted with an hour frost delay. The way they handled that was pretty good, it was understandable why there was such a huge back up. I enjoyed the layout and the difficulty of this course. For those that complain about the ball running longer than usual and ending up in a burn, 1. the starter warns you off the bat that you'll be getting a good 20 to 30 yards extra roll due to the condition of the fairways and greens 2. you have GPS on the cart that tells you exactly how far to the burns. If you can't figure it out, that's your own fault. And I guarantee that if you played a real links in Ireland/Scotland they don't have painted fairways. (There's the flag, now get there somehow.)
Here's my gripe from my return to this course last week 12/30/11. We had a 9:44am tee time and weren't expecting a delay due to frost since temps were supposed to be near 80 degrees. But it seems that they felt the need to really pack in the course for the holiday weekend (note: they were not charging holiday rates, a huge plus in my book) as there was a good 30min to 45min delay. We didn't tee off til' 10:20am. This makes for a miserable round when you have to wait half hour and then wait on every hole while the group behind you is on your tail constantly. I want to come to this course, I enjoy it, I'm hoping this was just a holiday incident because I would love to be able to tee off on time and play under 5 1/2 hours next time we come out here. The staff is pleasant, and really appreciated the 2 for 1 coupons for having to wait, but we shouldn't have to wait. This isn't some crappy, rundown muni, otherwise I'd stay in my hood an put up with overpriced green fees and hackers.

Played here 1/2/12 expecting the course to be crowded and it was but not as bad as I imagined. Perhaps I just prepared for the worst after hearing all the horror stories of the day after X-mas. had a 9:52 tee time but we called the course ahead of time to advise that we'd be a few minutes late. Person on the phone said no problem we're running about 20 minutes behind. We arrived right at our tee time but due to the course being busy we didn't tee off til 10:20. No big deal. Now on to the course conditions where the real "fun" began. I will qualify my review by saying this: I'm not a picky golfer and will play anywhere if given the chance and I am GRATEFUL that we're fortunate enough to be playing golf in the winter here in So Cal.

Pros: Tee boxes were flat and level without much divot damage at all. Some patchy grass but still nice and lush. That was a nice surprise and other than one area of the cart path on #13 that is still under water from last years heavy rains, the course is completely dried out now...

Cons: ...and when I say dry I mean DRY!!! I know winter conditions and all, but the grass on the course didn't appear dormant. It was closer to completely DEAD and toasted. Yes it was a hot day yesterday here in So Cal but it appears that Summerly hasn't bothered to turn on the sprinklers since summer. The fairways are painted green as mentioned in an earlier review. Thank god for that or you'd never know where to hit the ball on several holes. The course was so dry that tee shots in our foursome were all running a good 25-50 yds after they landed. Sounds good in theory but with all the burns running through this course that wasn't much of a gain.

The fairways and rough are so firm and fast that the course is just plain unfair/unplayable right now. I've played here many times including after the flooding last year and this is by far the worst shape that I've ever seen it in. Greens are firm and fast and do not hold shots well unless you have the ability to launch the ball into the stratosphere and make it land like a butterfly. I'll give you an example of how it went today. I'm a pretty good ball striker and I can get the ball out there pretty good but on #13 a 542 yd par 5 I hit a 3 hybrid off the tee and it ended up 275 yds through the fairway. I'm nowhere near that long! Normal distance for that club for me is 200-215. 225-230 MAX if I really step on it. So with around 260 yds left I hit my hybrid again thinking I'd lay up somewhere around 65-75 yds short of the green. WRONG! The ball kept bouncing once it hit the fairway and by the time it stopped rolling I was 20 yds over the green. That's when I just gave up and said enough is enough. If you're going to play here anytime soon I'd recommend hitting shots down your street to practice. Good luck to those who play but I would stay away until conditions improve unless you enjoy being able to use your putter from 150 yards out ;)

First time playing the course a couple of weeks back and was "treated" with a frost delay and blustering winds. The course is in winter conditions but I found the course very playable. The fairways were pretty tight and the rough was hardly existent....just barely taller than the fairways. The tee boxes were good and level. There are numerous burms that run through the course and are blind from the tee and definitely reachable for the longer hitter.....I found that out the hard way numerous times. The winds that day added to the challenge with many holes hitting directly into the wind. Local knowledge is definitely helpful at this course. The frost delay was handled by the staff very professionally. They were very accommodating and it definitely was appreciated. I'll be back.

Played on 12/29 and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course (for winter golf). The fairways have been sprayed with a fertilizer colored green and are in good shape for winter golf. Greens are firm with too many balls marks. On one hole I fixed over 8 ball marks. Course knowledge is very important, trust the GPS on the cart! When you hit a lay up shot go 2-3 clubs less instead of one as the fairways are quite firm. Staff is friendly and helpful. Some good deals $$ if you are a e club member. Also, thanks for keeping the green fee at the normal rate instead of the holiday rate during the week.

Played this course for the first time and I have to say, I enjoyed getting my ass kicked. It's the kind of course that you need to play once to get familiar and know where to hit and how to play it. A lot of blind shots that can hurt you, but I liked the lay out. Now that I'm familiar with this course I will be going back... for some more punishment. The only downfall to my first visit was the frost delay with an hour wait (had a 9:20am tee time, didn't tee of til' 10:30am.) I wish they would have done a shot gun start rather than have everyone wait at the first tee, made for a longer round than should have been and didn't enjoy the group behind us constantly on our butts pushing and rushing us when there was no where to go. Didn't help that the twosome we were paired with were novices and hacking a bit, but weren't slow. I can't wait for this course to come back to life after winter conditions, also would be nice to have people fix their ball marks as these greens would be much quicker without all the bumps and marks. For the price, this is worth the drive for a fun round of golf.
