Played today in in sweltering heat. Love this course. If it's your first time playing it's really important to know where the burns are and which side of the fairways to hit.

For example, hole 2 if you take out the driver and hit a long shot on the left side of the fairway you are in the burn. If you hit it on the right side of the fairway you have an extra 20-30 yards of room before the burn.

In other words, the burns never go in a straight line across the fairway. They snake around and it helps to either play the course before or play it with a local.

That being said, the course is pretty easy with no wind. Fairways were generally in good shape, some GUR sections but all circled in white for a free drop.

Greens were wet in the morning and slow but definitely got faster later on.

Had a crazy 4some in front of us that kept doing circles in their carts and had no idea what they were doing...you get all types out there on the weekends for 35 bucks.

Round was pretty slow. 5 hours easy.

I'm a 6 handicap and felt this course could easily be shot at par or under. Today I shot 77 with missing about 5 or 6 four footers.

Played yesterday at 12:30 pm. Got out right away and didn't catch the group ahead until the 7th hole. They moved along pretty well for a foursome and let us play through on the 10th tee and it was wide open the entire way after that. Finished in just over 3-1/2 hrs.

Course was in decent shape but lots of bare areas and GUR and rough had many thin areas. But where it was lush on fairways and rough was fantastic. Rough is cut very short and the course was pretty hard and fast and played true to its LINKS name. I was in two bunkers. One was a little wet but plenty of sand and the other was firm and thin. Tee boxes on the front were a little bit thinner than the back but all were good and level and cut out in very nice squares. Greens were very firm and released everything including wedges so it took a little getting used to having to hit the front of the green on a back pin. Greens were rolling medium, I would have thought they would be running faster by how much the ball rolled on the approach shots. Front 9 was completely calm until the 9th hole and from then on we had a steady 15-20mph wind. I'm still not too sure how much I like this course. It is fun and frustrating mainly because of there gps not having hole pictures and even with the yardage book navigating the course is still difficult. Maybe I just have to play there more often and with their rates right now it is still a good deal.

Played an afternoon round on the 4th. Got out on time, pace of play was great. Wind was howling, not sure if it always is but it made a very hard course that much harder. Tee boxes were good, fairways were good. Greens were good, but tons of un-repaired ball marks on the greens. Didn't affect putts too much, they were rolling medium speed. Really have to hit a variety of shots on this course due to the wind coming in from all angles the way the course is laid out. Really enjoyed the challenge and the change in scenery from most typical courses.

Monday July 2, 1030 tee time, the two of us on a very quiet day; 4+00 hours to finish. GOOD overall, with GREAT greens- FAIR fairways, GOOD green side sand. Fun layout exposed to the wind.
Check in a breeze, off to the range; mats and grass.
As a first timer here, I recommend a yardage book. It is only $2.00 and the GPS in the carts has NO map, only numbers and explanation (frustrating), there is no course map on the scorecard, so you don't know the direction of the holes, and, no hole diagram at the tee boxes either.
The reviews below nail it. I would add that the greens today were Great, bent grass, soft, holding, true, and a little bumpy from ball marks (unprepaired!!). Very interesting greens designs. Fairway sand marginal; greens side bunkers were Good. Rough- parts lush, thick; some thin and dry. All tee boxes very good.
Summerly indeed is set up like a links course, but it did not necessarily play as one. Imagine a links course after a downpour. The problem is targeting the watering. Plenty of standing water, and soppy conditions within a few paces of dry brown patches and hardpan; highs vs. lows. Additionally, the collars and fringes of the greens complexes were very wet, therefore not allowing the traditional links style 'bump & run' effort. More like chip-stick-dribble.
jj below is correct about the burns/bunkering; we noticed most of the hazards hidden, adding to the confusion with the GPS of where to line up the shot. Example: 16 green- par 3, none of the green visible from the tees. It would take a couple of rounds to become familiar with the layout.
We enjoyed the course and its demands. A good facility for the price.
Nice staff throughout, comfortable clubhouse with good views over the valley.

Course in very good shape overall since last visit. Greens are very good and rolling true with slower speed than most courses. Fairways have been well watered and coming in good with a few spots of standing water. Teed off at 10am and finished in about 4 1/2 hours due to a slow foursome that was not allowing groups to play through - no marshall? Worth a trip to play a links style course.

Played here, for second time over the weekend, on 5/28. In my last review (from 5/25) I mentioned that we were not able to get breakfast. Today, we did, and service was good. Course is really in pretty good shape. There are still a few GUR fairways, and for the most part, the course is firm and fast, but the course, very flat, is meant to be played in fast links style. Waste bunkers, a winding burn throughout, and many well placed bunkers make for a very good challenge. Greens have many ball marks, but roll better than they appear. Beautiful day, this Memorial Day Monday, with parachutes from nearby Lake Elsinore Skydive facility opening above us all day. Grill at the turn, serving dogs, hot links and bratwurst. Very enjoyable course.

Played Friday 5/25. Arrived 730 for 900a m tee time, but no one available to serve breakfast. Tables were set and ready to go, but no servers. (Odd). Range is very good shape, however, poor quality range balls. Fairways are still thin and GUR in spots, but overall, better than I recall from last time I played there. Greens show a lot of ball marks, but seem to roll pretty well despite appearances. This is a very unique links style course. Flat and firm, and on this day (temp just over 60, cold 20-25 mph winds, a little drizzle, cloudy, and just a little sunshine) very difficult conditions. Must be aware of the burn the snakes along, across, and through fairways. Difficult to gauge yardage and landing spot on some holes, due to flatness and mounding around the greens. Highly recommend a yardage book and pay attention to the 'minimalist' GPS on cart. Always a fun and tough test to mix in every once in a while. A lot of preserved wetlands and water for a wide variety of wildlife and birds makes for interesting viewing between holes. Enjoy.

I wanted to show my Vegas buddy something different, but I was concerned about the recent postings on conditions at the Links at Summerly, and got a wave-off from GKer ‘addictedtogolf’ – but we went ahead anyway. Played at 2PM on a breezy hot Saturday, 5/19/12, when there weren’t many people on the course. Went out behind a twosome and never caught them, and managed to chug along ahead of the two behind us. Course is still obviously damaged from last year’s flooding, although overall it was very playable.

Greens were in pretty good shape, receptive and rolled well at medium speed – there were a LOT of both recent and old ballmarks on all greens. There had been a shotgun tourney that morning and the greens had been abused, showing lots of scuff marks, small debris, and ballmarks. Newer ballmarks had dried into hard clumps of turf. Older (repaired) ballmarks appeared as brown blotches in the green, but didn’t appear to affect roll. Fairways were OK where there was grass, but many scattered areas were bare dirt/sand. There was more water in the lakes, drainways, and burns than I had seen in the past – I assume reflecting a higher lake level than in the past, as lake level increases result in groundwater levels rising and filling the low areas of the course. The waste areas were firm and easy to play from, and the one bunker I was in was in good shape. Tees were in OK condition, including the par-3 tees, which get a lot more wear. I don’t remember seeing a marshal.

The wind dropped when you were up against the surrounding dikes (and it was pretty hot there) but out in the middle of the property the breeze definitely affected shots, as well as helping take the edge off the heat. We saw the cart girl two or three times – the snack shack by the driving range was closed, and there was no starter at that time. The restaurant closed for golfers at 4:30 to accommodate a wedding. Overall recommended.
