Played for the first time on 7-3-16. Really enjoyed the course layout. Nothing crazy but enough variation to make it a joy to play. Tee boxes were mostly OK but some were chewed up. Fairways had some brown spots but pretty nice for the most part. Greens held OK if you had some height but chips rolled out. Slow putting though. Biggest problem were the bunkers. Mostly hard pack with small rocks. We found an occasional fluffy trap but most were almost unplayable. Customer service was excellent and the weather was perfect. I look forward to playing here again!

I was the third wheel at the sbogey/rat-patrol redemption bracket match at Glen Ivy GC on a hot sunny Sunday afternoon, 7/3/2016, teeing off on time at 12:08. Thanks to Jim and Steve for the Meet-Play invite. The course was not crowded, and after a 2+-hr. front nine we jumped ahead of the foursome in front of us at #10 and breezed at our own pace thru the back nine, finishing in just over 4 hours. I hadn’t played here in about 12 years, and the others had never played here, so we discovered/rediscovered the course together. We played the white tees (match decision) and the course plays fairly short from those markers (6,000/69.4/125). Many places where driver is not necessary (or recommended), although Steve and Jim frequently hit drivers. [Steve was solid off the tee all day, putting a lot of ongoing pressure on Jim, and Steve also hit numerous good wedge/recovery shots to slam the door on the match.] There are two uphill par-5s and two downhill. Most of the par-4s are shorter and have some or a lot of dogleg, with traps and hazards scattered about. The par-3s are some of the strongest holes on the course, with a good mix of length, features, and scenic attraction. [The par-3 14th is listed as the 2-handicap hole!] The course only recently emerged from SEC/FBI(!!) receivership – the former owners were apparently running a multi-million dollar real estate and investment Ponzi scheme. [The Links at Summerly, under the same former owner, were in the same situation.] The course has been neglected and only came back under local management last Spring, and they have a big task in front of them. Most of the initial investment appears to have gone into the greens. They were in very good condition – semi-lush, very few thin/bare spots, rolling at medium speed and holding shots. We saw very few ballmarks on the greens. Fairways and rough were hit or miss. In both cases, some areas were fairly lush and well-groomed, while others were dry, crusty, and patchy – lots of fun when you’re a few yards off the green and your ball is sitting down in a drought crack. Tees were level and OK – par-3 tees were pretty torn up, and previous players neglected to use the provided sand cannisters. The sand bunkers were uniformly horrible – all were hard-packed with no/little playable layer, and all need a lot of attention. Most of the hazard areas are very dense and overgrown, as well as some having both small and large debris scattered around. Staff was friendly. Carts are basic, with no GPS. A yardage book is available, and most holes have colored yardage posts and plates visible. The course uses the red/white/blue pin rotation scheme, so all par-5s were blue flags today – no imagination by course staff to vary the pattern as the holes fall in the rotation. Bathrooms both front and back were locked; the cart girl came by a couple times on the front, but had no phone (!) to report the bathroom situation. Overall the course is very scenic but currently has a ragged appearance – only the greens look like they get consistent care, but that’s a good place to start. I won’t wait 12 years before coming back again to Glen Ivy, and look forward to continued improved playing conditions.

Played a GK Cup match vs SBogey, we played from the whites as it was both of our first adventures at this course. The course layout is fun and interesting. The course was in good shape pretty much all around except the bunkers. All the bunkers were just hardpan sand (?) which is ok for fairway bunkers but unplayable for green side attempts. They appear to not have been touched by human hands (except a few places that players raked) in quite a long time. Some bunkers had weed growth in them and at least one had out of control grass on the edge of the trap. The rest of the course was quite playable and fun, just stay out of the bunkers! I liked the greens, but never could make a putt to save my life (I mean my match).
A course I certainly would play again if the opportunity arose, from the blue tees next time as the course played rather short from the whites.

4/20 using tee off deal time discount for $31, 1030 tee but due to large mens club turnout were 30 min late which is unusual as most times we have been sent out early. POP not counting the delay still a slow 4-40=== just one of those days.
Grass open on the driving range today and large putting green set up very close to course conditions.
Paired with Victor and Danial making an enjoyable 4-some with all of us having high-lights and the occasional disaster hole on a hot sunny day in the 90s but breezy enough to feel like low 80s.
Tee boxes are lush rather firm and mostly all level unless the blocks are set well forward then there can be a little slope. Fairways mostly brown with some green areas still pretty hard but good cover overall with decent lies. Rough is patchy some areas very thick and penal other areas clumpy grasses and some thin or bare spots. Fairway--good!! rough not so much making for challenging shots.
Bunkers overall need work, sand is often thin over hard dirt making it really difficult to execute a normal sand shot requiring less bounce to get under the ball and get out especially green side but favorable for fairway traps.
Greens have recovered for the most part but 2, 9, and 18 had bare areas that looked like they were scraped with a mower and dried out. Mostly rolled smoothly at medium fast speed with deceptive breaks at the hole.

Played yesterday with mpisarski01 teeing off a little after 10:00 on a warm and blustery day.
Tee boxes and fairways were in fair shape. A couple boxes were unlevel and there were plenty of Poa splotches in the primarily bermuda fairways. Bunkers, as bad and hard packed as they appeared were still better than the last time I was here. Rough was hit and miss with plenty of lush rye and a more than a few bare/thin patches as well. Greens were all over the place. Very inconsistent and bumpy despite being nearly recovered from aeration. Each green seemed different from hole to hole with some being firm and cut while others were softer and showed longer grass. Footprints were holding way too well on most greens in the crustier grass. Annoying to say the least.
POP was somewhere around 5 hours 20 minutes I believe and we waited on every shot which made for a long day. Cart girl was roaming around and we saw her several times.

Played today for a GK Event against LOTRGOLFER48 with very windy conditions. Course in decent shape not bad not good. Staff was very friendly and got us out a little early with another 2some

Tee boxes- Tee were lush and plenty of area to hit from and never saw anything negative to write about

Fairways- Cut real short and have POA coming through in small areas which can leave an interesting lye. Very fast and will roll for days

Sand = Garbage, concrete, evil, hard as hell- take your choice

Greens- Bumpy and covered in foot prints. still needs a few days- a week before being fully healed. definitely missed a few putts because of that

Rough- hit or miss i actually preferred to be in the first cut so i can have some grass to get under as the fairways could be hard.

In all a nice day with tough winds and will play again if the price is right

My two biggest complaints about my round today... You have a driving range and you go get balls and they have no range balls... No one picking balls staff was just okay with saying we have no balls you can get a refund. After the round we go to their restaurant and the waitress tells us they don't have a cook... So glen ivy has a range with no range balls and a restaurant with no cook to cook the food.. Awesome. Not going back there. Last time we were there we played 9 holes in 3 hours and 10 minutes. So that's two times the course leaves a bad taste in my mouth

A near perfect day to golf. The tee boxes were otkay, the fairways good, the greens in good to very good shape and fast. The bunkers were horrible, muddy, nearly as hard as concrete. This is a great layout with the downhill par 5's close enough to birdie for this mid handicapper. Next time I will call ahead as they were 40 minutes behind schedule. Per the starter, their Men's club plays really slow and was the cause of the delay. We saw the Marshall only on the 1st and 4th holes.

Played 2/29 using GK $60 twosome voucher-thanks GK and Glen Ivy--played blues 6392 in 4-10 on a beautiful 83* day with light breeze on one of my fav courses. Fairways are getting green with a mix of about 25% dormant area but overall with good lies firm but cushy as well. Not much rough but where it is it stops the ball but is easy to play out of. Tee boxes are lush level and minimal divot damage on par 3s. The 4 greenside traps I found had adequate sand giving me at least a reasonable chance to convert (2 for 4). The 1 fairway bunker I found on 18 was firm giving a good lie to enable a good out to set up a chip and putt for par. Greens looked to have shades of green and different grasses but rolled well medium fast and generally did not have much break as I often read. Keeping the pace and the line inside the cup seems to be the key here. I am a slow learner. Customer service is excellent from the desk to the starter you are made to feel welcome by people who have a high golf IQ and want to promote a good experience. Well worth the trip over the Ortega.
