Probably should just say ditto to Mark's recent review. Greens are the best part of the course. Rolled well and had decent pace. Most of the fairways had good coverage, with some areas which needed attention. Rough was all over the place - thin, bare, thick, etc.

I seem to struggle here because there are so many par 4 holes I just simply can not reach in regulation. Otherwise, I really enjoy the "rest of the holes" Even playing it forward on those holes make them a bit too long for this senior.

Staff is always great here and the price is fair, but I miss having the three nines. but happy they reopened it as an 18 holes course, which was better than expected.

Played here today with an 11:30 time. Arrived around 11:10, checked in, and after a bit another twosome informed me we were paired together. Started right on time. Pace was good until it wasn't. Overall it was exactly four and a half hours, but we were on the 11th tee after 2 hours and 15 minutes. Those last 8 holes took another 2:15, with the worst of it coming at the 14th tee where we were the third group waiting to tee off when we arrived. Gorgeous day with clear views across the valley, but some pretty good winds that impacted play.

Conditions are pretty typical for here – acceptable but not exactly great. The greens are very nice even if they have too many unfixed ball marks. They rolled mostly smooth, pretty quick, and around medium firmness. Fairways have good coverage but a mix of different grasses. You're likely to have grass under your ball but it rarely feels like a really good lie, if that makes sense. Rough is everything from bare spots to weeds and clover to extremely deep, penal, lush rye. (I missed the 8th green just right and took a couple minutes to even find my ball, which had settled down in lush grass about 7 inches deep.) Blue tee boxes were fine. I was only in one greenside bunker (had a fried egg) and one fairway bunker. Both seemed okay, not bad, not good.

I always love this course and I like their pricing structure that adds a middle tier between morning times and twilight. $55 for a weekend with no worries about finishing before dark is definitely worth it.

So great to be back at MoVal Ranch. Good pricing on a 930 AM Friday TT. Fairways pretty solid, rough was a bit clumpy and not the best---dont hit it out there haha. Tee boxes good to go---no real issues. Greens were the STARS--FAST and TRUE. So happy to see that the bent grass is rocking smooth and fast. I used to love playing here long ago as the putting was so true--line it up and hit it. Miss it...all you. Congrats to the greenskeepers! Only bummer was they left the cart wet and when I put my phone in the cubicle --it was full of water and it shorted my phone out. Hoping that it dries out and I am not out BIG $$ due to poor prep for players. I complained to two guys--a more senior guy and a cart guy. ?? I will be back on this classic Pete Dye design.

Played from the whites on Sunday 6/18 at 8:30 with Ray, Jim & Vic. Really nice weather and nice course conditions. Vic shot his personal best with a well performing driver and putter. Good customer service, starter and marshall kept the pace of play at 4.5 hours, even though we were patron'd by Stormy with the drink cart 3 times. The course is more lush and being well watered. Tees were a bit chewed but in good shape. Fairways provided good lies and some mixed bag of turf types as you near the rough. Rough was long today, nearing penal, but more in the challenging category. Traps were in good shape with nice sand. Greens were very receptive and rolled smooth at a med to fast speed. All four of us found the green on 16 by reading the breeze correctly...alas, no birdies but lots of fun for each attempt.
Good value, even Ray from the OC mentioned this often that day.

Played Friday, 3/31 at 1pm with co-workers at a 4.5 hour steady POP. They started us on hole 10, interesting to start that way. We played our skins round from the whites as we heard the rough was penal from recent reviews. Happy to report that the rough was mowed to a more friendly yet mindful length.
The tees were pretty chewed, even on par 4 & 5s, but there are many with a bottle of mix available for use...maybe some players were donating their cart bottles? You could search and find level lies, but the trend lends that it'd be wise if we all would look after these tees.
Fairways are in good shape, on the lush side and taking good root. They should fare pretty healthy this season.
Rough is in decent shape, a very mixed bag of types, and gets more patchy, and drier as distance from fairways increases. Be observant of this early in your round for better shot planning. There were a few times I either should have, or did club down in loft, to ensure a better out.
Greens were firm and both slow & medium speed. They were not cut tight and visually laid over, most of them toward the downhill direction. Likely these will get aerated soon. They did hold approaches well, but firm to ball marks and the tool to fix them with.
No driving range. The Marshall was on duty on both nines. We saw the drink cart three times, and the cantina closes by 5. The pro shop allowed me to buy the post round libations at 5:30 since I won the Vets CTP fundraiser on hole 16, good customer service. RSD isn't long and doesn't have a high slope, but, if your game is off and you don't intervene to save it, this Dye course can be pretty unforgiving. It's all fun...and recommended.

The last time I was here was about 30 years ago. The course is now 18 holes. The old Valley 9 has been converted into a frisbee course. The back 9 or old Mountain 9 was my first time playing it. Wow what a great layout. The views of the snow packed mountains were stunning. The greens were a bit slow but were in perfect shape. I wouldn't play here for at least a week, however. There is long grass everywhere. In many areas you have to step on it or inadvertently kick your ball to find it. I hit a tree 30 yards ahead of me trying to punch out only to lose it somewhere in a clump of thick grass. Right now is not fun. The grass in all areas needs serious mowing. We are expecting more rain which may further delay this needed maintenance.

Played here today with a 12:30 tee time using an UnderPar voucher for two. I was joined by Todd Herron (th_golf_photography on Instagram). Staff was great both in the pro shop and starter. The other twosome at 12:30 was concerned to be playing with others because they said they were beginners, so the starter sent us all to the first tee and said if no one else shows up, we can play as two twosomes instead of one foursome. That not only accommodated the beginners, but also worked out well for Todd and I as we took a million photos. Pace was pretty good on the front but more stacked up on the back, but I still think we finished in about 4.5 hours. With afternoon sunlight just getting good for photos, Todd talked to the pro shop and they eagerly let us drive around the back nine again so he could fly his drone and we could take more pictures. We tried our best to stay out of people's way and did so pretty effectively. Gorgeous day that got chilly in the last hour of daylight. Course is in good condition, very green throughout. Greens are surprisingly firm for all the recent rain (especially considering how crazy soft they were the first couple years after reopening). They were about medium speed (guy in the pro shop warned us they weren't as fast as normal due to all the recent rain), very smooth, and accepted full shots pretty well. Fairways have good coverage and provided good lies. The rough is a mixed bag of long grass, deep clover, and other assorted tangly weeds you want to avoid. We each lost balls in the rough even when we had a good idea where they were – definitely premium on keeping the ball on the fairway. Blue tee boxes were mostly good; a few had lots of divots and some are uneven. Sand in the bunkers was good quality but each bunker I was in seemed like no one had raked all day. We had a super-fun day despite neither one of us playing well. Check our IGs in the coming days for photos and video from Todd.

Lucky we missed the wind Tuesday as we played Rancho Del Sol in Moreno Valley. Just a great day, course is as maybe a little over priced for condition but that is today's cost to play golf. Greens were good, fairways playable, out of fairway not in anything but bad shape. Sand some thin some filled with that fluffy stuff I never get to practice in. Carts are newer and run well and still saw a few guys walking the course (not an easy walk) Two different nines with the Mountain Nine really a fun nine, and plays easier than it looks. a few "are we ever going to get there" par 4's on the front "Valley" nine are there to make the long hitters feel good and us short hitters wishing we made that boogie putt.

Getting more and more difficult to find tee times, but able to get back out to Moreno Valley Ranch - I mean Rancho Del Sol. Not much has changed since my last time here. Still a bit scruffy, with inconsistent fairways, but playable. Greens were better than expected considering they aerated earlier this month. I found several bunkers, which all had sand, but were in various condition. Tee boxes could use some attention.

Staff is always friendly here and pleasant to deal with. Miss having three nines to play, but I'm happy they at least have 18. I thought that when this place closed a few years ago, it was gome forever. Thankfully I was wrong.
