I played Los Serrano's South course yesterday. A friend called me around 10 and said he had a 1:30 tee time and an opening. I hardly ever play there because it has always been slow. Knowing this before I said yes because the price was only $16, and I figured I would at least get in 9 holes. Well, I was right, when we got to the first teebox, there wa group on the green, another group about 400 yards up, and a group teeing off. Like I said $16. It took us an hour to play the first 3 holes, but I was cool with it because like I said, I knew what it was going to be like, But while waiting on the 3rd hole, I thought about something I would change at Los Serranos, especially on the South Course, first like most courses, they are letting way too many groups out in intervals too close, I think they were at 7 mins, when I think it really should be 10. But the biggest problem, is golfers using the wrong tee box. That South Course is a long course, 7628 from the tips, 7188 from the Blues, 6743 from the whites, and 6082 from the forward tees. In my opinion, if management is going to sell $16 tee times, I really think it should be from the WHITE TEE's only. Leave your ego's in the car, and stop ruining everybody's round. Hole 3 plays 314 from the white and 395 from the Blues,.... the hole is already hard enough, so why do high handicappers make it even harder. Especially on 8 yesterday! The white were playing forward past the water, and as it was getting cold and I watched the group in front of me drop two in the water from the blues, and the one's that cleared the water, cleared it by about 20-30 yards. Los Serranos is a very nice course, I would play it more, but this happens every time I play there. I really think there a White tee rule should be implemented for the SOUTH course only when they are charging only $16. Just curious, am I off based or what?

Tee boxes in good shape ,a few could use a little leveling. Fairways are nice with good lies. Rough is real short with some bare spots but easy to hit from. Sand traps have nice fluffy white sand. Greens are in good shape with medium speed and rolling true.

Played early this morning, third off with with rgm2525 from the blacks. We fell into a nice pace early with a pair of threesomes in front of us in carts and us walking as a twosome. We never saw the threesome behind us and finished in 3 hours 20 minutes.

I usually good for one or two rounds a year here and this is probably the best shape I've seen it. Tee boxes were excellent and lush. Bunkers were filled with nice fluffy sand (not so good in the fairways bunkers but can't complain). Greens were rolling great apart from #1 where the Poa hasn't taken over yet. Fairways were solid with interesting patches here and there. Rough was thin in spots but still playable.
Customer service was good as usual and for $38 to walk, it's excellent value.

Early round with a couple friends. Overall course was in better shape than when I last played here. Things seem to be improving. Greens rolled well, not as fast as I'd prefer, but OK. Sure do miss the days when they had all the trees. Just can't get use to Los Serranos being so "wide open"

Staff was freindly as usual. Decent pace of play, about 3:45.

Rough is cut very short and is a little thin. Sand traps are in real good shape with nice fluffy white sand. Greens are rolling real good with medium/fast speed. Overall course is in real good shape and well worth playing.

Got a 12:00 "deal" time as a single for only $25 because they're running that Aeration Special where all tee times on the South are no more than $35 right now. I knew the greens had been punched a couple weeks ago, but what they don't mention is that the tee boxes have all been scalped and are a complete mess. For $25 on a Saturday, it's hard to complain too much, but it would have been nice to know this going in. Most of the tee boxes are just sand/dirt right now with a little dead grass mixed in. Also, on the majority of holes, the tee markers (gold, white, and blue) were bunched together either at the far front of the tee boxes or at the very back. Thankfully, with the ability to put a tee in the ground, the poor conditions don't affect play too severely.

Fairways and rough were decent; not great, not bad. The greens rolled pretty good and have mostly healed since the aeration. I think I got burned on one putt that jutted left just before the hole, but otherwise I don't think aeration affected play much. If anything, the greens are maybe a little inconsistent in speed from one green to the next. The bunkers I was in were amazingly perfect: soft, white sand that is wonderful.

I was paired with a twosome who were very slow players: One was an okay player but extremely deliberate, and the other guy was a beginner who was really out of his league on this big course. Despite that, we got around in 4:35 in oppressive heat. For $25, I'd do it again tomorrow if given the chance.

Played here on 10/2/14 for a great rate of $25. I knew when I made the time that greens were punched about 10 days ago but they actually putted quite well. A touch slow but putts held their line. Sand traps were the best I have seen in quite a while. Nice, soft and fluffy. Fairways were ok with a few dry spots. Tee boxes were all getting worked on so I will reserve judgement on them. POP was just under 4 hours today and the staff was super friendly. Will definitely be coming back

Played in a club tourney on Saturday morning, 8/2/14, on a hot muggy uncomfortable day with almost no wind to break the heat. The course is in the process of many different improvements, and right now looks ragged and there are many areas to avoid, if possible. Fairways have been verticut and there are many bare/thin spots that have been sanded and seeded. Lies are tight and the ball frequently sits down. Rough is mostly cut low with occasional lush areas around balky sprinklers, but there are also many bare/hard areas. Many tees need leveling.

An obvious visual change is in the bunkers. Some have been improved with new sand, some are GUR under renovation, and some are just wet muddy sand. Even those with new sand need settling, as the new sand is soft and fluffy and difficult to play from.

Greens were generally good - fairly soft, receptive, rolled well at medium speed, no bare spots and very few ball marks.

A few years ago the course began planting many trees to replace the eucalyptus that had died. These new planting are starting to fill in and better define the course. However, there are a few headscratchers - 4 trees have been planted on the hill beyond the pond on #8, right in the hitting area. These have been planted leaving only a narrow opening along the left side. These trees are badly placed with the OB close by on the left and shut down the right side of the fairway.

Recommended.

Played Thursday, 7/10 mid-morning T time. The North was having a amateur champion tourney, so of course that means the South was going to be busy. And it was, the bright side was, their was a lot young guys and girls on the range who could really play.
All conditions were 7+, but the greens are very nice, smooth and lush, rolling at medium-fast speed, a fast is the only thing from me rating them a 10.
Waited on every shot, dragged on a bit at 4.45 minute round.

Tips
Bring your driver, almost every par 4 or 5 is a driving hole, long and wide, even from the whites.
They are working on the traps, even adding a few new ones. The white ones are done and have good sand in them and are very pretty. The brown ones are not done and hard packed, but playable.
