So I decided to give Eastlake a try. I haven’t played here since before October of last year. I’ve been hearing the course was getting in better shape and was hoping it would be true but was unfortunately disappointed. Paid $40 with a cart which is not bad but still not worth the conditions of the course. The tee boxes were in good shape fairly lush and level with very little divot damage. Fairways were very lush, nice and green with good coverage. I didn’t see any thin spots at all. The rough was thick and could be difficult to play out of at times. The sand traps have all new sand in both the fairway traps and in the green side traps. Unfortunately the fairway traps are too soft and the ball settles down too far to get a good shot out of. The same thing happens with the green side traps and you usually end up with a fried egg. If you were to stop here the course is actually in nice shape but unfortunately the greens are still in bad shape they say they are healing well. From what I saw they did not appear to be in any much better shape that they were late last year or earlier this year. They have put some type of different form of grass on the greens that is much different than those throughout the regular San Diego courses. I don’t know what type of grass it is but it is not a very nice appearance. I would say roughly half of the greens were still playing very slow and was very bumpy. The other half of the greens were in better shape and the ball rolled better but still far too bumpy. I’m hoping in the next few months the greens get better but I’m worried if it’s going to be a hot summer. I don’t know how the course is going to handle it. I would say if you can find a good deal it might be worth playing. At $40 with the cart I would pass but if you can play at twilight round or if you can get it down to about $25 with the cart is probably worth playing.

Played this am and course is in OK shape, tee boxes are browning up and some are pretty beat up. Same can be said of the fairways. Still mostly green but starting to show a lot of brown. Sand is pretty bad and hard to play from. Greens are lush and green but very slow! I would only play here for the next month and with a good deal. Otherwise you are better off waiting till after they overseed in October.

Course is in decent shape, very playable all around. Teeboxes were in good shape overall, some had a slight tilt to them, so just needed to find the best possible level stance, but can't complain too much. Fairways were nice! plenty of roll and not much divot damage, I always had good lies. Rough was tough! Stay out of that stuff, especially around the greens. Grabbed your club pretty well and I chunked a lot of chips. Bunkers were awful. I found one fairway bunker and it was rock hard. The greenside bunkers were rock hard, too. My playing partners found them greenside and they were awful. Proshop warned us about it, so stay out of them greenside, impossible. Greens were in ok shape. I don't think they mowed them on Sunday morning, so they were very bumpy towards the end of the day and they didn't hold shots very well, expect a half club of roll out.

Enjoyed my round, even though conditions aren't ideal. Still very playable and this track can play tougher than the yardage indicates. I thought it was well worth the money and would recommend.

Played Eastlake on Monday with a mid-morning tee time. Used an email offer and played for $37 with lunch, pretty good deal. Course is in good to very good shape. The course is green and lush throughout. Greens were too bumpy for my liking, but hopefully they roll them soon.

Tee boxes were good. All were level and easy to hit from. Fairways were very good and nice and green. I was surprised based on the lack of rain. The sand was ok, some of the traps were hard compact and some were better.

Greens were very disappointing. Most were very nice and green, but very bumpy. A couple of putts were knocked off line. They were medium to fast speed.

Don’t let the greens keep you from playing here, if you get a good deal I think it is worth it.

A little late review, played last Monday after 11 am using a email coupon, $29 with a cart. The course is in overall good condition. The course turns nice and green after overseeding. Even with the higher than normal temps the course is still pretty green.

Played the back tees and the boxes were in very good condition. No real isssues.

Most of the fairways were nice and green and gave a good amount of roll. When I was in the fairway never had an issue.

Rough was actually in play and about 2-3 inches. It was enough to make you think about your shot.

Greens were in good shape with little to no mall marks. Still a little to bumpy for my taste and it did affect some putts.

Overall for the price it’s a good deal. I suggest playing now before things change. I guess the course was recently sold to a Japanese Firm which owns a few golf courses in Japan. The staff said they where told they would be putting some money into the course. Hopefully that doesn’t raise the green fees as 29 with a cart is a pretty good deal.

Played Early Sunday Morning as a two some POP 3:00 :) This was my first time playing here and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We can all become a little golf course snobby sometimes, and all my friends have only said bad things about this course. This was a perfect example of how beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you have to try everything for yourself. This course is a blast to play as a forgiving resort course. It's an easy resort course, but I loved it. It's straight forward but by no means a pushover. There is a great mix of doglegs, blind tee shots, elevation changes. The par 5's and a few par 4's have a fun risk reward challenge. It has a touch of Pete Dye esque wood framed greens along the water on the par 5's. The par 3's have great water elements. I played well but wasn't driving it well and scored an 83. The fairways were lush. Rough was lush. Tee boxes were lush with only one or two having uneven areas. The bunkers were poor. One had grass growing it, but I'm kind of a bunker snob so I am hard to please with bunkers. They could use more sand but were consistent. I think it was mostly due to being damp. The greens were great rolled true. Medium to slow speed so you could easily bang putts without too much break. Only the first par 3 had severe green damage and new sod, and one of the par 5 greens up hill had green damage. Otherwise they were perfect. I highly recommend for a relaxing driving miss daisy kind of day, when you need a self esteem boost. All the greens are elevated so there is a premium of ball striking. You will never have too difficult of a putt or an difficult drive. The value was great for an early morning tee time of GN. Pace of play was amazing. Staff was friendly. I heard it backs up so you want to get off early. I highly recommend and will be back to play early Sunday before football again.

Played Sunday, 7/25. $45 clickitgolf deal, included lunch and a drink (beer of course). Totally worth it for a Sunday at 11am. POP 4hrs, no problem. I have played this course once before, years ago. I'm not in love with the course layout. It goes through a tract of homes, not my cup of tee. It's a Ted Robinson design, so it's fun, but pretty short, played from the blues cuz I walkd on as a single and the other 3 guys played from the blues, I'm on the fence on this issue, any advice is welcome, do I stick to my guns and play from the tips? it's always an awkward situation, I should start a forum conversation.

Anyway, Conditions were pretty good, overall.

Teeboxes were level, a little chewed up, but you could find a good spot with little effort.

Fairways were nice, had good lies all day. Mown at good height with appropriate roll.

Rough was penalizing, but not unfair. Good coverage, nice and lush.

Found two traps on the same hole, number 14, they were horrible, hard pan and muddy. Give them a pass.

Greens were pretty darn good. Held shots appropriately and putted fairly true. Downhill, forget about it, no chance! Uphill, fire away and sink it.

Overall, had a good time. Must play course? probably not in my opinion, but I'm an idiot and my opinion is pretty much meaningless, at least that's what I hear from my wife.

Good value and I'm not dissapointed I played there, just not my fave.
