Played Mt. Woodson October 16, 2016 in a GK event. The course is in good shape and the Bermuda fairways were excellent with good base and easily able to take a good divit. Tee boxes were level and in good condition. Around the greens were well maintained and the bunkers I happened to get into had good quality sand and well maintained. Greens were in good condition but somewhat slow and little bumpy for what I'm use to, but ok.

I look forward to play Mt. Woodson again and bring some of my regular golfing buddies. With a two hour drive I still would come here often. The Golf Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Snack bar was well stocked and staff was very friendly.

Played MW on 9/14. This course continues to improve. Compared to what I've played in SD this summer, this has to be one of the top conditioned public courses in San Diego. Work continues on the clubhouse area, and the warmup net is being reconstructed. Warning though - aeration coming at the end of the month, so go enjoy it while you can. A little bummed that my office is moving to Irvine this winter, it will be tough to make it back down here.

I was the fourth member of the Sunday's GK Guru foursome. I haven't played here 7-8 years and forgot what an interesting layout this is. Greens: smooth, medium speed and "holding". Fairways: a few brown spot but otherwise not a bad lie all day. Rough: I had some punishing lies around the green, the ball sat down in the rough leaving a very difficult chip shot. Rough off the fairway was not as punishing. Traps: firm but playable. Tees: lots of divots. Customer service: friendly Pro shop staff and starter(ask for the playing tips sheet if you are not familiar with the course, it really helps.) Cart service twice on each nine. They are upgrading the Grill area and installing some hitting bays to loosen up. Nice to see a course making improvements! Enjoyed meeting two new GK regulars. Mark down the GK Plays outing for Oct 16th, you'll enjoy it!

A few mostly visual dry/ burnt areas mixed in, but mostly green & lush. I had great lies all day. Rough a mixed bag. Some areas deep and some very thin Traps firm but playable Greens were in very good shape. Receptive to good shots. Ran at medium pace. Noticed a few bounces from the group's putts, but mostly true. A few of the T boxs were a little fury. Only made a difference if you were trying to hit irons. Service very good and cart girl by multiple times. A beautiful day on a course in very good to great condition.

Has a great time with Jim, Tim and Bob today at Mt. Woodson. I agree with what Rat-Patrol says prety good conditions right now. Tee were mostly good there was a few that had some divot damage. Fairways 85 percent green and full coverage, Sand was decent it could use a top coat but nothing to bad. Greens were good medium slow firm at times but will receive a well placed shot just ask bob and rat as they were going for aces all day. I have never seen so many good shots off the tee for par 3's.

I Highly suggest playing here in the Gk event in October as this a course to play for the views and variety of shots to be played. I dont think there is a single boring hole on the course.

Another GK Guru day and the course was in real good shape and the weather was perfect. Wind did pick up a bit later in the round and it swirls around quite a bit, but that just adds to the challenge. The layout is interesting and plays longer than the 5764 listed from the Blues. Tees: Level Fairways: very, very nice, good coverage and green Rough: 2"-3" and thick, if the ball sits up it's tough to gauge and if the ball sits down it's also a challenge from off the fairway to green side Bunkers: smooth, semi-firm sand, not plush but very playable . . . and better than most, better than most Greens: accepting of well struck shots, a few unfixed or ill-repaired ball marks (but nothing too bad and not courses fault), tricky to putt, mostly rolling smooth at mostly medium speed POP: went off at just after 10:30 and finished just after 3 Customer service: saw the snack cart a couple times a 9 and everyone else from check in to starter were friendly and professional Layout: Fun and varied Overall: recommended, the course is in really good shape now. There is work going on with a netted area to hit some full warm up shots and I believe a chipping green. So things should only get better.

Based on Sparkys review, I thought I would give this course a try. What a treat! Tee'd off at 12:30 on 8/13/16. Scenery was great! Not many long holes but each one was challenging. Almost every hole plays up hill or down with Dye like hilly grass/sand bunkers protecting the greens. Tee boxes were a little thick with divot wear. Fairways were in good shape. Rough was good as well but sometimes penal when the ball drops straight down into the bermuda. Was only in one bunker thankfully. Seemed like a mixture of tan sand/dirt. Greens were firm and smooth but were rolling on the slow side. Will definitely be back!

Played 8/5. Only my 3rd time here over 20 years, and I cannot figure out why this course isn't on my regular rotation. Even though only 5700 yards, it is 5700 tough yards. Greens are in great shape, everything else is better than average. Mt Woodson is a great deal, thoroughly enjoyed it.

As for the course, Mt. Woodson, oh how I've missed you! I think it's been about 10-ish years since I have been out there and I was instantly reminded how big of an idiot I've been by doing so, Mt. Woodson is rad! There are very few places around San Diego/SoCal with as much natural beauty as Mt. Woodson. With the hills, trees, canyons, boulders, etc. you really feel absolutely secluded out there, even with a few houses around. Just a fantastic place to tee it up!

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the layout. It's a really short course at around 5700 yards (par 70) but don't get tricked into thinking it's a walk in the park. This course has some teeth and after the round I think the best thing about it is it's actually somewhat forgiving off the tee for a tight course (as long as you play smart). The really strategy on this course (in my opinion) comes on approach shots. The greens aren't overly large or undulating, but do provide some thinking to keep yourself out of trouble. It's really just a fun approach to the game and I could see playing this place over and over and never getting bored. You could play the course so many different ways it's just awesome.

As for the conditions of the course, all I can say is, WOW! This is more about how much better Mt. Woodson looks than it did in the past. I have to say, I've been reading reviews from rudyclub about the place and even talked to him about it and he said it's really coming around, but I was more than surprised. The new owners are putting some serious love into this place and I'm so stoked to see where they go with it.

The entire course was very lush, which was a surprise. I would almost say that it was too lush at times with the fairways and tees having just slightly too much turf when it comes to short irons. If you really hit down on it, you could almost get a flyer. That's really being picky because I had pure lies all day long. Just really consistent, solid coverage.

Tees were good enough. Being a short course they take a beating because even the par 4s have people hitting irons of them, but really, you can use a tee so I'm not sure you need anything other than a flat stance and that wasn't a problem.

I found a few bunkers and the sand was really good. Not too fluffy, not too hard. There are some tricky greenside bunker shots, so it's nice that they give you a surface to have a chance from.

I thought the greens were really, really solid. We were guessing that they were running about 9-9.5 on the stimp, but they were smooth, held their lines and shots and in general were just really healthy. I could see them firming them up just a tad and they'd be epic. But seriously, great surfaces.

Everyone on the staff we had the pleasure to meet were great. Just really friendly people with genuinely good attitudes and I really appreciate it. You can tell there's a lot of pride in the place.

I will absolutely be going back to Mt. Woodson again soon and often. I got my butt kicked out there and I'm ready to exact some revenge :) It's just such a fun and beautiful place to play golf, it will be a short time when it's one of the better places to play in San Diego again.

**They are building a new grill/restaurant so the food options are limited, however they carry some solid local brews in cans for the course which is a HUGE plus in my book. Swami's!!

Go play Mt. Woodson and thank me later!
