Played on 5/18/17 with John after the Guru outing. First time here and it really is an interesting place to play. I can officially state that in the wind we started in I cleaned out my old ball stash within the first 3 holes and had to play "good" balls. Very demanding for it's length. Don't expect to hit many drivers here, but do expect to be penalized for poor decisions and poor swings. Also, expect your great shots to be rewarded with relatively easy birdies.

Tee boxes were not very level on some holes, but the grass coverage was solid and you could find a relatively flat spot to play from. Fairways are in great condition as well as the greens themselves. Sand would be my big gripe for the course. As with most courses in SoCal these days, there just isn't any sand to allow one to splash the ball out onto the green. You almost have to play pitch shots instead.

These holes, while short, have a TON of character and the views are amazing! Huge boulders, lakes, and various trees adorn all the holes. There's tons of wildlife (bunnies, squirrels, hawks, and even the occasional rattlesnake based on signs and some probable dens observed under said rocks), and don't be surprised if the rabbits just stare you down while you play the hole. They are not exactly skittish about being around golfers.

If I get my game in order, I will be back for a second attempt at conquering this gem. You cannot go wrong with a course this much fun to play ... even if every major error turns into a look in the bag for another ball.

Drive by every day and have been wanting get out here since it has been a while.
Course is in very good shape
Fairways green with full coverage. They were cut kind of tight, but very nice to hit off. A little on the firm side, but not bad, and they had pretty good roll.
Greens receptive and in great shape. They can get a little bumpy in the afternoon from the blooming Poana and foot prints, but They still rolled decent at about medium fast.
Rough wasn't bad. Decent shape with mostly full coverage at about 2" of green/brownish grass.
Traps in poor shape. No sand in them and are mostly hard pan.
T boxs which have been horrible for years were actually in decent shape. Mostly full coverage. They are small so they can get get beat up quickly. Many are still crowned or sloped, but at least for now they have good coverage. If you're a fan of Mt. Woodson, you will not be disappointed!

2/8 last of the birthday rounds $12 after the rains CPO with POP 420. Over the last 6 rounds we played courses that have the common factor of large contoured greens that provide a stellar defense against lackadaisical putting making every approach putt and the 3-4 footers a challenge to our sanity. Greens here fit right in and even being slightly slower from residual dampness--only for the 1st 2 hours--putting was not easy. Greens fairly smooth overall and mostly firm but receptive for short and medium shots with chips still running out sometimes more than expected.
Traps need about 2 weeks to dry out. Fairways were less wet than we expected but still played LCP and were able to find ok lies.
Really good customer service making us welcome--thank you for the birthday hospitality.
Due to the rain factor I will not be rating this course this time.
All and all a good tract and an outing worth the 1hr15min drive.

1/30 using golf moose $63 2 some on a beautiful 70' am with no one ahead or behind for an easy 4 hr POP roughly 30 minutes of which spent looking for wayward shots, finding most but often in some real awkward places leaving nothing but limited chip outs. Here you have fairway--then some areas of rough--then what is referred to as native areas--brush, rocks sticks and drop offs--some places you don not even want to think about trying to go into but look on the edges hoping the ball hit something to have it stop.
Fairways were in good shape--good cover but mostly dormant winter condition--have dried out since rains with only #5 and #10 CPO and a very few areas of casual water overall.
Tees overall ok # 8 has a little crown to it but not severe. About 1/2 the bunkers still had excess moisture but had an area that was still playable. Fairway bunkers were dry firm and very playable. Rough varied from rather whispy to juicy.
Greens were nice medium fast smooth consistent overall and for me difficult to read as the overall topography is a factor in addition to the contour Greens vary in size from hole to hole.
Staff friendly and welcoming--we plan on returning next week for birthday rounds.
Fun course a little quirky with good variety and with a stroke multiplying factor for mi sh-t s.

Second time playing the course, had a great time. The only real negative was that some of the tee boxes were a little thin and not level. I will play this course again

Alright, better late than never! I tee'd it up at the GK Event last weekend on a perfect day at Mt. Woodson. Had a great time playing with some GKers I had never met before but like always, met some really cool people.

I am a huge fan of playing golf at Mt. Woodson even though I just can't seem to get my game going there. I can't really explain it as it should fit my game well, but for some reason it just eats my lunch. That being said, I think it's one of the most unique golf experiences in San Diego County and just a beautiful place to play.

As far as the conditions go, I think they are definitely above average. The fairways were lush with great coverage and I never had a bad lie (I also didn't play from that many). The tee boxes are a bit chewed but I never had a problem finding a level lie which is all I care about considering I use tees :)

One thing that I'm torn about are the greens. On the plus side they are super healthy and held shots great. Considering they were punched only a few weeks ago they were really well recovered. My only complaint is that they were pretty hairy and weren't that smooth. I would love to see the greens cut short and made a little firmer, it would make it pretty crazy out there :) I can assume that in the coming weeks as they have even more time to heal they can thin out the amount of material and really get the putting surfaces pure.

The staff at Mt Woodson is awesome. Josette at the snack bar is always really sweet and the guys running out group were really cool.

I'm stoked that Mt Woodson is really shining and I'd be quick to recommend them to anyone. Just a really cool golf experience.

Mt. Woodson was in great shape IMO. Pretty impressive how quickly the greens healed from their aeration less than a month ago and I expect them to get better and better. They rolled mostly smooth, moderate speed and held shot well. The fairways are still mostly green with the bermuda turf hanging on. As the temps get colder at night moving into December I expect them to go dormant. However the fairways are very healthy, with exception of a few holes on the front nine, so about the only difference in play-ability will be a little less lush and yellow as opposed to green in color. The rough was not as long and lush the last time I was out here in July for a GK Review Guru round but for the most part it was lush greenside and on the thin side adjacent to the fairways. Bunkers in good shape. Tee boxes good condition as well. Impressive considering how small they are and it’s a course due to its target golf nature will get much irons play from the tee.

From an organizer perspective, fantastic place to have an outing. This was GK’s third outing here and there will be many more. Excellent service, well organized/friendly staff, perfect staging area to keep track of your whole group, beautiful patio for post golf fun, inside and outside accommodations. They also now have hitting stalls so no more teeing off Mt. Woodson with a stiff swing.

Mt. Woodson is a one of a kind layout with exceptional topography and views. The bridge from 2 to 3 is something else, there is reason it’s on their logo! Love this course. Highly recommended.

Played in GK event 10/16/16. WOW!! What Amazing Improvements. Nice little warm up area into multi-station net, but soo much better than what was there originally when we last played a few years ago. Beautiful quaint clubhouse renovations - impressive. Staff were FANTASTIC from the minute we arrived. Very accommodating/actually went above and beyond to make this event one to remember and wanting you to come back for more. Course was in the best shape I've seen it in for the times we've played. Fairways rolled out nicely and were easy to hit off. Rough was playable; came in handy to keep from rolling off and down into a deep green-side bunker, yet tough to get up and down. Tee boxes (from the Red), were mostly well manicured & level; yet there were those that were slightly bumpy & uneven. Greens rolled medium/slow for the most part; but held shots extremely well. Some un-repaired ball marks, and cups showed end of day wear resulting in quite a few lip outs. I profess to be a fairly good putter, but this day had me scratching my head and grimacing in anguish of twoputtitous :( Bunkers were pretty consistent...and I was in my fair share. Most were thick/heavy sand, but one or two were a little thinned out. Cart service was frequent and very friendly. :) Pace of play was 4 hrs, and wind will come in to play during your later in the day rounds for certain. Course knowledge a Big Plus! Prepare with extra sleeve or two of balls, for if you make it through a round here without losing a ball, you can count yourself a Master of Mt Woodson. This course is one of my favorites in the Ramona area...the surroundings/scenery can't be beat in the for the price and challenge. Red tees are EXTREMELY lady friendly, and Blues will test even the most accurate of shot shapers. Practice chipping area located far end of parking lot. (Watch for errant shots from 2 nearby holes). Nice practice Putting area adjacent to starter area/1st tee box. Lovely, friendly, Cleveland Rep was there with great demos to get a real hands on look/feel of the wedges/putters. Will be seriously looking at their 2.0 chipper maybe in the future ;) Hope to be back to this course again in the near future...SO NICE to see the improvements and can't wait to see what they have in store in their future. Mt Woodson is a MUST play course...even if nothing more than to say you experienced 'The Bridge"...Still a dobule E ticket ride! Kudos to Johnny and his support team. Went home with TWO Beautiful LinkSoul women's golf shirts...can't wait to sport them around on my next golf outing. No better day than a day with Great GKers, and the beautiful challenging course layout of Mt. Woodson Golf Club...just this novice golfin gals opinion. I'll Be Back :) Thank you.

Played 10-16-16 with a GK plays. Course is in great shape. Nice lies in the fairways. Rough not too penile. Bunkers were firm but played well. Greens were a bit slow to me. There seemed to be a lot of variation in speed. They held shots really well.Tough to read so course knowledge would really help there. Some of the most beautiful views you will see anywhere. Challenging course with a number of blind tee shots.
