I too played in the GK outing at Mt. Woodson and had a great time. I concur with all of the earlier reviews. I would like to add the following: - good to see the hitting bays operational, it's not a driving range but at least you can get a few swings in, better than teeing off "cold". - excellent customer service, Mt. Woodson is a challenging, enjoyable layout, can't wait to get back there!!! Also enjoyed the coffee and muffins when we arrived. - another well run event by Johnny, thanks. Also love the wedge that I was very fortunate to win. Thanks Cleveland Golf! - great to have Cleveland Golf products to try out!

I played in the GK Meet and Play held at Mt. Woodson on 10/16/16. Overall it was a great event and I met some great guys that I played my round with. This was my first time playing the course and I thought the course was in good to very good shape and I would recommend playing the course. It is a very short track that gets it difficulty from narrow fairways, blind shots, smallish greens, lots of elevation changes, afternoon winds and strategically placed bunkers.

Alot of the tee boxes had quite a few divots in them. I would think this is because of a few factors. The course is very short and therefore often times I was hitting an iron or a hybrid off of the tee which makes divot. Also the tee shots are stressful. The course has a lot of target golf with bad results for a left miss or a right miss; more stress more chance of a divot.

The fairways are easily the best part of the course right now. They are in very good shape with little divot damage. I cannot remember a bare spot. The fairways are often very narrow and are lined with trees and other boulders after about 7 yards of rough on either side.

The fairway bunkers had fine clay not sand but most were in good shape. There was 2 times though that I was in a bunker and there was no rake at all. This included the mammoth bunker that is about 50 yards long on hole 13 with no rake at all.

The greens were in good shape a little firm but held approach shots. They were a little on the bumpy side with quite a putts from all players bouncing more than I would expect. I would think after a cut and roll the greens would be great.

I do have to note that our cart almost died on the way back after the round and we had to get out a few times to remove any weight.

The cart lady came around a lot and was very nice. They are in the process of upgrading their grill but currently there was no hot food available during the round.

Played Sunday with #GKPlays. Great bunch of folks.... good to see some old and new faces attending these events. It is after all Greenskeeper.org hallmark product. Greens I would say fast, a little bumpy, but held their line with a properly struck putt. Fairways in great condition. Bunkers have hard packed sand you could literally use a regular stance and chip the ball out of the bunker. Good thing I was using that new Cleveland RTX-3 to test out the rest of the bunkers -- I needed it. Thanks Cleveland Golf! Rough around green complexes thick. Along fairways rough was mixed bag of thin lies, really deep rough and fairways height. Not a problem for me. Tee boxes were level and playable. This course may be short but narrow fairways with tricky med-fast greens with hard to see breaks are it's teeth. I tell you some of the tee shots you're left wondering...what the heck do you do LOL. Play smart. Enjoy the round. Pace of play not an issue....It was a fun round and the service from the staff-- wonderful! Would I play here again? Of course... but mind you the traffic Sundays back to LA can be a little.... crazy :D

I haven't played MtW in several years only due to the drive from OC.

Fun course, good staff and overall pleasant environment to get your "target shooting" going.

This is a short course playing only around 5800 yards from the blue, but the course has teeth.

no spraying the ball around here!

I personally found the greens challenging to read all day, overall they were in good shape, though I saw quite a few putts bouncing a bit more than expected in route to the hole.

course conditions tee to green were overall very nice.

I absolutely recommend you play here if you are nearby, and if you are making a trek to play here, I would say it is worth the drive.

Had a fun time at yesterday's GK Plays! Great to meet and play with apisarski and Kahoutek. The course is in good condition. It's in just about the same condition as last time I played here in August 2015. The greens are soft, a little bumpy and running medium/medium-slow. The fairways are the best conditioned part of the course, lush with good coverage everywhere. Rough varied from really deep, nasty stuff around some bunkers to fluffy lies with the ball perched up top of the grass. A few times my ball sunk down in the bermuda, which was definitely penal when that happened. Most of the bunkers I was in were pretty good. Tee boxes were the lowlight of current conditions; many divots on nearly every box.

Another great GK Plays outing yesterday. Fun group of GK'ers ventured out to Mt. Woodson and it seems everyone had a blast. Thanks to all the prize sponsors for one of the best prize tables we've ever seen!

I agree with all the reviews so far. Good overall conditions. Didn't seem quite as nice as when we were out there a couple months back for the GK Guru round, but still in nice shape. So wonderful to see the effort they are putting into this course. Tee boxes fine. Fairways have a nice pad of turf now, so they provide great fluffy lies. Rough less consistent. Mostly cut down, but sometimes the ball sits up nicely and other times it settles down in the bermuda just enough to be difficult. Bunkers adequate. Greens very soft and on the slow side. Good surfaces in general, but I wouldn't mind seeing those rolling a little smoother and quicker.

Mt. Woodson continues to be one of my favorite tracks in SD County, and one of the best tests of target golf around. Scenic, fun, friendly and affordable... That's a good combination in my book!

Absolute treat today playing Mt. Woodson for the GK Plays with Andrew, Lou and Shane. It was my first time playing this beautiful track and I left with nothing but positives all around. The topography and scenery is breathtaking, the layout is intriguing, challenging as all get out, and yet still retains a lot of fun qualities that make you remember that golf is just a game. The staff was great from start to finish - thank you. And of course thanks to Johnny (and Vic) for putting together another great outing. This one was particularly enjoyable. I love the course. While it can be very tricky and demands maximum accuracy, there aren't any holes really that feel 'unfair.' Each has its own charms while winding up and down around the picturesque mountains and canyons, all the while enjoying the solitude of the land and the embrace of the greenery. They carved a gorgeous little track from nature's perfect canvas here and it's so much fun. I found the fairways to be in quite good condition overall, but there are definitely some rough areas to find yourself in if not accurate. The rough itself was rarely too penal, but any stray shots will mostly get eaten up by the surrounding vegetation. I only hit out of one bunker today and it seemed okay. Tee boxes were actually beautifully carved into the various spots on the course, but the grass itself, because the course has many layups off the tee, can be a wee bit chewed up on a few, and maybe even a bit uneven (like #12). Greens, while many found them spongy and a bit on the slow side, I found them to be just fine for my speed. I also thought they held shots well and were more or less blemish free. A few tough pin locations to be sure, but for the most part found them fair and challenging. What else is there to say? Great day out at a great location. Is there any chance, if we put enough pressure on the management, that we can move Mt. Woodson much closer to LA?

Played today with GK. So many improvements have been made since I last played here a couple of years ago, from the clubhouse and new hitting stalls, to the overall condition of the course. The staff was super friendly and helpful getting us all organized and escorting us onto the course for the shotgun start. This is a very scenic course, with beautiful views of the mountains and canyons. One of my favorite parts of the course is the long, winding wooden bridge that’s high up over the gorge on the way to the 3rd hole. I also really like all of the stone walls and steps. They have so much character that it is completely unique to this course.

The fairways were in great shape, as were the greens, although on the last few holes we played they were pretty bumpy and much slower than earlier in the day. The tee boxes were not very level but not so much to be a problem. The two bunkers I was in were also in great shape. I thoroughly enjoyed the days and will happily play here anytime.

Played in the outing today. Staff was organized and welcoming. It's been a few years since I've been here and the hitting bay is right next to hole 10 and the clubhouse is being renovated. Both I thought are nice changes.

Greens were a little slow and wobbly for my taste. It was nice to see them green again however. I did think they were really soft so they must be getting some water on them. Being a heavy set guy I felt bad walking on them because I could see my footprint. I think because they were this soft I'm guessing that it gets difficult to cut them which is why they might be slow.

Fairways were good. Even in the fairway I found myself with some uneven lies so length is not an issue but rather placement. I didn't think there were many bare spots out there and you were able to take a decent divot.

The rough could be a little tricky. I saw some of our balls which seemed to nestle down and create some rather tricky shots. And then of course you have the canyons which you must be crazy to go in.

I wasn't in a bunker but they looked in the firm side.

Because this is not a long course you get a variety of options off the tees. Therefore there is probably more damage on the tees than most other courses you may play.

Good course and it's certainly a test of ball striking. I'd like to see the greens a little firmer and faster but would be back.
