Played one of my favorites La Purisma yesterday Monday 4/10/2017 for a GK Guru round teeing off with my buddies Nickesquire1 and Pedro7170 at 8:20am on a cold tee off start around 42 degrees with little to no wind for most of the day. Temps warmed up nicely on the back nine. I think our pace of play was around 4 hrs 40 minutes taking our time enjoying the day. Nick and I rode the blue tees (73.1-136-6670). The greens were in very good shape--there were only problem areas on #2 green in the middle/front section due to the darn coots in that area. Other than that the greens are holding higher trajectory irons and irons with spin. They are quick and firm enough that if you are short sided chipping--good luck. Hardly any ballmarks to fix--a treat to putt on primarily smooth surfaces. Would say maybe rolling a 10.5 to 11 on the stimp. Greens were rated a 8/10 for me--great job. The fairways were primarily lush with maybe exception to some spots here and there. For the most part you were sitting up nicely. The rains have done this place really good. Rated 7/10. The tees were in good shape--mostly lush and level. Rated 7/10 Was in one greenside bunker on #14 that contained thicker/beacher sand that has to really be thumped. Thought the bunkers looked to be in above average shape. Rated 7/10. The rough is really tough if you are in it. It's 2-4 inches deep in some places and can just be an advancement of 50 yds, 75 yds or if your lucky further--was lucky today to only be in the rough chipping or pitching today so did not get to experience the nastiness of it today on full shots. Rating it 8.5/10. I know they have the US open qualifier here coming up next month and I can see the course keeping the rough at least this height if not worse for the next month or so prior to that event. This is probably one of if not the toughest course I have played. It has everything you could want--length, deep rough, usually wind, uphill and sidehill lies in the fairways, protected green complexes and laterals and penalty areas if you get to far off the beaten path. But then there is the scenery, quietness and great layout to enjoy. A gem, Of note and my buddy who is a member semi-explained it to me--the yardage markers are sprinklers that can be hard to find as there is not many of them. If you are to cheap like me to bring a range finder or distance locater it can take some time to get your yardage here--can be a little frustrating--possible POP issue but this place is golf to its purest. Highly Recommended--enjoy and for sure bring your A game.

Played in a GK GURU here on Monday. Course is in excellent condition. Arrived to a temp of 36 degrees, but no frost delay. Greens were in excellent condition. Running medium to fast and held well struck shots well. I did notice a few ball marks that were left unattended or repaired poorly. Some minor Koot damage on a few greens as well but it was marked and line of site was granted. Fairways were lush and without any problems that i noticed. Rough is lush and approx 2-4 inches. Do not stray any further than that as the native grass takes over and its a lost ball almost certainly. I enjoy playing from the sand so I kept a close eye on the bunkers. Most had very good sand although wet and making blast shot nearly impossible. The property sits on a beautiful rolling terrain with a few forced carries. Nothing that cannot be manage however as they other distances that most would find playable. On this day I played the combo tees that run out to just over 6300 yards. It was well worth the time 3.5 hours for me to get there from Brea but i will surely return for another go at this one.

Played 3-31-17 first out as a twosome finishing in 2 hours 50 minutes for $32 on there players club. Tee boxes were in good shape, most were pretty lush with some being a little un-level. Fairways were in good shape with nice lies and good roll-out with some small bare spots. Rough was long thick with the ball sitting down making for difficult shots to get out. Was in one greenside bunker that had heavy firm sand. Greens were in pretty good shape rolling a little slow but holding there line. Overall course is in real nice shape and very green.

Played Saturday and Sunday, both times in the morning, on a $99 for two Under Par certificate for unlimited golf. There was a frost delay both days, with the course opening between 8:00 and 9:00 am. The course handled it well in my opinion, sending groups off both tees. We did have an hour delay on Sunday in our start. With the compression of groups, pace of play was not great. It was about 4.5 hours on Saturday and about 5 hours on Sunday.

The weather was beautiful both days except for the chill in the mornings. The course had a chance to dry out and for the most part was good. There were some muddy parts to the fairways on some holes which were generally roped off. There was also not much roll out although it was better on Sunday than it was on Saturday. The course was lush. The rough had been cut and we were able to find balls but it was still thick enough to be punitive. The greens were good. Good speed and generally true. Both days there were a couple of holes with pin placements that were borderline unfair, but otherwise nothing to complain about on the greens.

The sand traps were the low light of the course. There was standing water and mud in many of the greenside bunkers. In several there was no sand with the ground being very hard at the bottom. I hit out of one on #9 and there was no way to get under the ball. I was lucky my ball hit the lip as it went screaming on its way, and ended up on the green. The bunkers had obviously been hard hit by the rains. That said, there were a some where the sand was acceptable and played as normal.

The service was very good under trying circumstances for the course. They handled it with grace. They were also great in accommodating us considering we had a cancellation and so had three people with pre-paid certificates for two people each. The food staff was great. Had a good tri-tip sandwich. Curiously we saw a beverage cart on Saturday morning, once, and never saw it again all weekend. Otherwise, I was very happy with the service.

Highly recommended.

Played 1-14-17 first out as a single walking in a little under three hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly lush and level with a few being a little thin and un level mostly on three pars. Fairways were in nice shape very lush with a few small bare areas. Rough was not as long as normal but still thick and tough to hit from. Didn't go into any bunkers but most of them looked to be okay with some still holding some water from the rains. Greens were in great shape, the best that I have seen them in a while rolling smooth with medium/fast speed. The course held up very well from all the rain. Definitely worth going out and playing.

Tee boxes were in good shape with some being a little un level and others a little thin. Fairways mostly had really nice lies with an occasional bare area. Rough is long and thick around the greens and not as long along the fairways but still thick with some thin and bare spots. Bunkers were in good shape with heavy brown sand. Greens were very nice to putt on, rolling medium/fast, semi-firm and holding there line nicely.Very tough course in a great peaceful setting.

Played 10-22 and 10-23 in the club championship. Teed off Saturday at 7:30 and finished in about 3 1/2 hours, and teed off Sunday around 7:50 after a 15 minute fog delay and finished in about 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes are about the same as always, descent shape with some being a little un-level (17). Fairways still have some small bare spots here and there but the rest is in great shape with carpet like lies. Rough was long thick and nasty. Bunkers were in good shape, well groomed thick sand. Greens were playing very nice, semi firm, smooth and pure. Great conditions, great service and always fun to play here.

Rode the Black tees today 10/3/2016 playing 36 holes with RGM2525 finishing both rounds in about 6 hours. Used the all you can play GK coupon which includes cart and range balls for $47.00--a spectacular deal for one of the toughest courses and beautiful layouts in California. Morning round was in the low 60's with a light breeze-- we were greeted with a 20-25 mph swirling wind during our afternoon round. The staff here are very friendly. They have a cool elevated range, big chipping green and nice huge putting green that mirror's the speed of the greens on the course. The greens were super pure putting wise and in very good shape. Little to no ballmarks, holding irons very nicely. I have seen them faster but overall I am rating the greens an 8/10. The fairways were mostly lush, green with a couple dried out brownish spots here and there that do not effect play. If you are in the fairway you have a nice lie. The tees were mostly lush and mostly level--only a couple of boxes were crowned. Seemed like they have redone the black tee box on #3. Overall rating for the tees were a 7.5/10. Was in 3 greenside bunkers over 36 holes and I loved the bunkers--very rarely am I 3/3 out of sand saves. Sand is thicker, raked and in good shape. Rated 8/10 Rough was thick 2-3 inches and lush in most places lining the fairways and greens. I will say beware of being under trees in the rough or just in the rough at all. There are places were your ball might sink down in a hole in the rough--tough to hit a 295 yd drive down the middle of the fairway--hit a slope in the fairway--roll in the rough and then ride up to find your ball in a hole barely being able to advance it--lol--that's what makes this course very tough. Rough rating 8/10. Today we maybe saw 2-4 total groups on the golf course--it was like playing our own private golf course. I would HIGHLY recommend this golf course.
