I used to play this course frequently when I lived in the area so it was nice to have a reason to come up and play it again. I played the last week of July. This course is just plain beautiful as you walk up to check in. Clean carts at the ready, smiling friendly staff, practice greens perfect just like the real one's you are going to play on. I don't like putting on the practice greens then finding out the "real" greens are slower/faster. Here, they are fast period. You don't want a downhill or sidehill putt on this course. The tee boxes were perfectly flat with nice grass to hit off of, the traps had nice fluffy white sand in them making it easy so to speak to get out of. The fairways were nice and green with a few brown spots here and there but no bare spots. There was no ground under repair anywhere on the course. The rough is rough and in some spots pretty deep so keeping it in or near the fairway is a must plus hitting into the Oak trees that line the fairways means poison oak everywhere so unless you can see your ball and reach it with a club in your hand I would forget the ball. The greens are immaculate on this course, it is almost like players are afraid to leave a ball mark on them. They run true and fast too. POP was 3.5 hours at a very relaxing pace. We didn't have too many issues with wind however it does come up causing you to club up especially on #17 where with no wind you are hitting 6 iron 170 yards to windy when that 6 turns into a 3 iron. Love this course never disappointing aside from my total score. Well worth the drive plus you got Solvang, Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara nearby.

La Purisima is good challenging course. If you are fairly accurate, you could be well rewarded. It has good distance from the white tees and offers challenges for all levels. Don't read anything into the breaks on the greens and don't forget to adjust for the wind. We had a great time Sunday, the 17th with the GK group, our 2nd outing. Come out and enjoy the next one! And not wanting to leave out this note - all the staff at La Purisima were great, wherever you encountered them- especially the Pro Shop and the Lounge.

My review is going to be first from an outing coordinator perspective. I ran a GK Plays Outing of 24 players and was very impressed with the staff, service, course, surrounding ambiance and facility. It’s indeed a very challenging course so if you have high handicap group, certainly play the middle or forward tees. I liked how the clubhouse is centrally positioned to give easy access to all staging areas of the course. It has a big central practice putting green with the driving range and practice chipping slightly detached yet visible. It was very easy for me to keep things organized. They have well a stocked clubhouse and good food in the restaurant. Big screen TV’s and affordable drinks. Off and on the course service was very friendly and professional. As for the course, I’ve played La Purisima many times, but not recently, and found it to be very enjoyable as expected. I love the layout and tranquil natural scenery. The course was in great shape overall but I have played it when it’s been in better shape. The fairways were lush providing great lies all day. The greens were true, held shots and smooth although slower than any of my previous rounds. The rough was mostly lush but at times spotty/thin. The bunkers were in good shape but the sand trap structures looked quite old. The tee boxes are my only disappointment with many containing different varieties of grass, some not level and some with non-uniform grass types. Our weather in the morning teeing off at 9:00am had some clouds, overcast and a slight drizzle. It seemed to all burn off although transitioning to sunshine with a light breeze by 11:00am. POP was under 5 hours. I want to again THANK everyone that came and our wonderful sponsors LinkSoul.com, Cleveland Golf/Srixon, Conestoga Golf Club and Aliante Golf Club.

I played in the GK Plays on Sunday making a weekend out of it. Played with Stickboy and RGM2525 both are very good players and I enjoyed the pleasant company. Course was like others had described, fairways were green and nice, rough was 2-3 inches thick and greens seemed a little slow to me from past visits. La Purisima brings back so many good memories, the course is very serene and peaceful maybe thats why I like so much. If you ask me the real winners are Staci and the rest of the staff, they are so polite and very courteous and many of the locals probably wouldn't play there anymore if they weren't there. La Purisima and the Central coast of California hold a special place in my heart and I would play there again, and again..

Played 7-17-16 with Stickboy and Mcantos with the GK group. Played from the black tees in great weather conditions for Purisima which means the wind was blowing less then ten miles per hour. Tee boxes were in descent shape, some a little thin but mostly level. Fairways were mostly in good shape with a few thin areas and some small bare spots. Rough was in good shape, 2-3 inches and thick. Bunkers had plenty of heavy sand and well groomed. Greens, although rolling slower then normal they were smooth and true. Overall good conditions on a great course. Thanks to the LP staff ,Stacy, Russ, Angie,and Gary.

I had to play THIS gk plays, because La Purisima is one of my favorite courses anywhere. It's not just the layout, but the unspoiled beauty of the area. This was the easiest the course has ever played when I've played it, with light wind and the greens at a reasonable speed.
Conditions weren't perfect, but they were very good in the parts of the golf course where you should hit the ball. The greens are so challenging that there is an added sense of accomplishment when you two putt from long range.
If you haven't played this course, it's worth it to work a round at La Purisima into a trip up or down the California coast. It is a classic.

Another fun GK Plays yesterday with a great group on a fantastic course. La Purisima has always been one of my favorites, even if it isn't quite what it used to be. I have to admit that I still have romanticized memories of my first time playing here many years ago. The course was immaculate then and instantly a favorite golf experience. It's definitely much more rough around the edges these days, but still a great track. As others have noted, the conditions were pretty good overall by today's standards. Tee boxes could use some work. Fairways generally had very good coverage with soft fluffy lies to hit from. The rough had a lot of good areas and then gets worse as you stray farther from fairways. As others have noted, it's a bumpy ride around here on a cart. It's cool they have GolfBoards now, which would be good considering the cart paths here are kind of loosely routed (to put it kindly), but I don't know how well those do with such bumpy terrain. The bunkers were good. The greens were soft and rolling at medium speeds. By La Purisima standards, they were very slow. They were not the slick surfaces we're used to here. I had so many downhill putts stop way short that I was continually shocked. Not bad, but just not LaP reputation. Still, we had fun out there and I never mind trekking up to Lompoc for a round here.

Was at the GK Plays event yesterday and had a good time. Normally i would never drive that far to play golf especially if it meant driving through LA. Being from orange county I dont like sitting in traffic and there was a lot of it after golf. That aside this course is pretty nice. I didnt get the national reviews saying it is supper tough because it just didnt play that yesterday. Course conditions were good not great. Greens were soft and slow but smooth as can be. Fairways were in great shape and mostly green. I did end up with a few bad lies and that was a bummer. it looked like the mower caught to much ground on a few holes which cut into the ground leaving mini trenches. I dont know why my ball was attracted to those lie but i had it at least 3 times. Sand was good but a little wet from the morning dew. The main issue i had with the course was that the tee boxes were a little messed up. Half were in great shape the other had weeks and uneven surface which made it hard to find a nice place to tee up.

In all if I lived around the area I would probably play again but Ii would not make the drive again. Id rather drive the 3.5 hours to play rams hill instead. Thanks Johnny for putting together another fun outing and im glad that I won a Sweet Link Soul Polo.

Played La Purisima on 6/17. This is a tough coarse if you don't know your way around. Trouble can be found everywhere. I can't remember having a straight putt, everything seemed to have a break. Tee boxes are not level and patchy. Played the blue/white combo which seems to be a good compromise between white and blues. Fairways were in great shape. Care driving golf cart on the rough as it is a very bumpy ride. All in all i really like this course and had a great time.
