Played on Sunday with fellow GKers DKnight, S_Smith, and Big_O. Big thanks to Scott for sharing his Players Club foursome with us! La P is in pretty good shape right now. There seems to be no lack of water for irrigation, as it was pretty much lush conditions from tee to green. Great pace of play (except for one somewhat slow group-ours, lol) on a Sunday morning/early afternoon with not many golfers out. We let one twosome pass us up on the turn, then did not hold anyone until 15, when another faster group approached us. They stayed back, so we did not need to let them by. Perfect Central CA weather with cool overcast morning, giving way to breezy and sunny skies. Greens were rolling a bit slow, especially in the morning dew. They did speed up, but not to what we would consider La P's normal speedy greens, rolling probably around a 9 or 10 max. Fairways and rough were lush and the rough was deep enough in many places to punish your errant shots. The bunker sand was plentiful enough, but was a fine, dark brown, and heavy or dense; almost clay-like. I have heard the term, "Mesa Sand" to describe this type of material. It was a great day, fun was had, and we finished up with food and beer in the Piranha Grill.

Played 9-1-16 with Nickesquire for 36 holes in a about 7 hours and 45 minutes. $ 32 to walk the first round and $20 for re-play with a cart using the players club membership. Tee boxes were a mix lush, thin and a little un-level but you could always find a nice stance except for 9 which is really crowned.Fairways were in good shape except for a few brown and bare spots. Rough is 2-3 inches and thick with some minor clumpy areas here and there. Was in two bunkers both with nice heavy firm sand, with some small pebbles in one of them. Greens were rolling smooth with medium pace and holding shots very nice. Always get great costumer service here, and maintenance is very considerate of players.

Played the Blues (6670/73.1/136) with Ron in 4H on a Groupon deal that was a B-Day gift. Thanks #1 daughter! The weather was overcast, calm, foggy and cool. I played most of the round in a windbreaker, which considering most of my recent golf has been in over 100 degree weather was quite the change! I like this layout even though it bests me up every time I play here. I commented to Ron that there are numerous holes that look like they line up well and are not that tough... but 5-7 strokes later on the next tee? The rough really gets me here, it's much thicker than most So Cal courses, tough to chip out of or hit the longer clubs necessary to reach the green if you miss the fairway here. The tees were average with adequate coverage. Several are crowned and needed divot repair. The fairways were mostly good. A few problem areas that the maintenance staff was out watering, but mostly good lies and nice to play off of. The rough was usually thick and penal. Not real tall, but the ball usually sat down, especially tough in early morning wet conditions. The sand traps were a mixed bag. Sand depth okay, but too many rocks. Tough traps here, you have earned an up/down out of most of these if you get a sandie. The greens putt much better than they look. Mixture of grasses, they look patchy. Medium speed, held approach shots well, mostly smooth. The customer service was excellent from everyone, especially Russ in the Pro Shop. No drink cart, but adequate water on the course. Had an excellent Cheesburger special after the round in the onsite restaurant. Fun, very demanding course. Love that there are zero houses anywhere close and all the old oak trees around this layout. I get beat up by the course every time I play here but still enjoy the experience. Recommended = Yes.

There are some courses that you just always know will be a joy to play. La Purisima is one of those courses. From the staff which is fantastic, to the setting, the challenge (But fair) of the course, the course never disappoints.

Conditions were not as good as the last time I played, with some brown areas, thin tee boxes, and patchy rough, but the overall experience trumps any minor condition issues. what a great way to end my mini gold trip

Played 8-21-16 early morning walking as a single in a little under 3 hours. Tee boxes were okay, some were a little thin and others could use some leveling. Fairways were in nice shape mostly lush with a few bare areas and some small brown spots. Rough is healthy, long and thick. Didn't go into any bunkers but they usually have nice heavy brown sand. Greens were in great shape, semi soft, medium speed and rolling very true.

Fortunate to play LP three times last week, each round found the course in excellent shape tee to green with a few rough spots (ie. # 7 landing area and some fairway edges were browned out). Not much to really add to what's become a well known fact that this course is one of the most scenic in So Cal with a great hilly but walkable layout and top shelf Poa greens. Great friendly staff and food is consistently fantastic. My only (minor) complaint is the bunkers. Previous poster mentioned white sand ... I missed that bunker. The ones I saw were more like a mix of sand and dirt, heavy but playable. Greens were rolling true at medium/fast pace, holding everything. Really a treat to play here and will always stop by when headed up the coast. Also, played for $15! on anniversary/throwback Thursday (8/18) ... funny staff was blasting '80's rock music all day. Best golf deal I've ever had. Highly recommended.

I used to play this course frequently when I lived in the area so it was nice to have a reason to come up and play it again. I played the last week of July. This course is just plain beautiful as you walk up to check in. Clean carts at the ready, smiling friendly staff, practice greens perfect just like the real one's you are going to play on. I don't like putting on the practice greens then finding out the "real" greens are slower/faster. Here, they are fast period. You don't want a downhill or sidehill putt on this course. The tee boxes were perfectly flat with nice grass to hit off of, the traps had nice fluffy white sand in them making it easy so to speak to get out of. The fairways were nice and green with a few brown spots here and there but no bare spots. There was no ground under repair anywhere on the course. The rough is rough and in some spots pretty deep so keeping it in or near the fairway is a must plus hitting into the Oak trees that line the fairways means poison oak everywhere so unless you can see your ball and reach it with a club in your hand I would forget the ball. The greens are immaculate on this course, it is almost like players are afraid to leave a ball mark on them. They run true and fast too. POP was 3.5 hours at a very relaxing pace. We didn't have too many issues with wind however it does come up causing you to club up especially on #17 where with no wind you are hitting 6 iron 170 yards to windy when that 6 turns into a 3 iron. Love this course never disappointing aside from my total score. Well worth the drive plus you got Solvang, Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara nearby.

La Purisima is good challenging course. If you are fairly accurate, you could be well rewarded. It has good distance from the white tees and offers challenges for all levels. Don't read anything into the breaks on the greens and don't forget to adjust for the wind. We had a great time Sunday, the 17th with the GK group, our 2nd outing. Come out and enjoy the next one! And not wanting to leave out this note - all the staff at La Purisima were great, wherever you encountered them- especially the Pro Shop and the Lounge.

My review is going to be first from an outing coordinator perspective. I ran a GK Plays Outing of 24 players and was very impressed with the staff, service, course, surrounding ambiance and facility. It’s indeed a very challenging course so if you have high handicap group, certainly play the middle or forward tees. I liked how the clubhouse is centrally positioned to give easy access to all staging areas of the course. It has a big central practice putting green with the driving range and practice chipping slightly detached yet visible. It was very easy for me to keep things organized. They have well a stocked clubhouse and good food in the restaurant. Big screen TV’s and affordable drinks. Off and on the course service was very friendly and professional. As for the course, I’ve played La Purisima many times, but not recently, and found it to be very enjoyable as expected. I love the layout and tranquil natural scenery. The course was in great shape overall but I have played it when it’s been in better shape. The fairways were lush providing great lies all day. The greens were true, held shots and smooth although slower than any of my previous rounds. The rough was mostly lush but at times spotty/thin. The bunkers were in good shape but the sand trap structures looked quite old. The tee boxes are my only disappointment with many containing different varieties of grass, some not level and some with non-uniform grass types. Our weather in the morning teeing off at 9:00am had some clouds, overcast and a slight drizzle. It seemed to all burn off although transitioning to sunshine with a light breeze by 11:00am.
