Second round of the day found us here. We saw a GN hot deal for $59 at 12:50 and snatched it up. I also had a $10 code, so for $54 a player it's hard to pass up a round at Ojai Valley. When we checked in, they were sending out another twosome to the first tee and told us we'd be up after them. As we were getting ready to go, another foursome jumped ahead as they were making the turn after starting on the back nine for whatever reason. They were painful to be stuck behind at times, but we still made good pace. They left after finishing #9 and then we had nobody in front of us on the back nine. All in all, another good sub-four-hour round! The course was in pretty good playable condition. Not pristine resort conditions by any stretch. Some burnt out areas in fairways and rough, but mostly good playing surfaces. The greens are recovering well from the recent aeration. Some bumps here and there, but mostly good. Bunkers full of heavy beach style sand. Good tee boxes throughout. This was my second time here, with the first being several years ago. Loved it then and still love it now. Then, the nines were the opposite. I'm torn which configuration I like better because it was a nice build up to the tight and overall more scenic back nine before, but the way it ends now with 16-17 as the signature holes is pretty dang cool. What a beautiful setting and fun/challenging course! With the right deal like we had, it's extra enjoyable and certainly a must-play if you ask me.

Teed off late afternoon and finished in 4 hours flat.

Course was beautiful as always. First class service here. Greens were near perfect, fairways were dry in many spots and not visually stunning like the greens or surrounding landscape but it is middle of August so this is expected. Tee boxes were lush. Hole 16 is my favorite par 3 of any golf course I've played. 16 is a True test without being gimmicky.

One complaint. Pin locations on hole 7 and 10 were a joke. Really tho, In all my years of playing and of the 100+ courses I've played I've never seen a hole
Cut on the edge like #7. I'm a single digit handicap and usually have no complaints about pin locations but this was borderline miniature golf. 24 inch putt ended up 25 feet past the hole

Besides those 2 holes Ojai is a must play in my book! Will return for the right rate online

What a great way to spend a Wednesday morning. Tee off was at 8:30, with comfortable temps and a slight breeze. Have been wanting to play here for awhile and finally had the chance this week while in the area visiting. The course is is simply a masterpiece, from all the warm up stations to the course itself. Trees provide not only a scenic beauty but also provide a hitting corridor that frame the fairways nicely.
Trees also provide a nice back drop and framing for most holes giving some depth perception to greens. The Kikuyu rough is challenging and penal in nature and seemed to be at least 5 inches in areas of the course, on an average though I would guess 2-4 inches.
Bunkers range from normal to large with many greens having more than one to account for. The 16th is a great hole with bunkers plenty and a miss club here short will leave you in a delicate position. You will find some forced carries but nothing that will ruin your day on the course.
The greens ran a suitable 9.5 on this day and were true, very little to any ball marks and held shots at a better than average pace. Fairways do show some signs of dryness with a few bare spots noted but nothing alarming and good lies prevailed throughout the day. POP was just under 4 hours as we had an inexperienced twosome in front of us, but in such beautiful settings we were in no rush.
I would recommend playing here and hope to be back again soon, which is a good bet considering I will be in the area again at the end of the month.

Super excited to play this course as I have heard a lot of good reviews. Here are my observations and comment. 1. As with most resort courses, it was a bit difficult finding the proshop/golf. I guess when you checkin for the resort, they give you a map but since we were just golfing, had to ask directions several times as the signs were not clear (depending on where you enter the property). Make sure to drop off your bags off the starter before parking as it is a long uphill trek to carry your bags to the golf check-in. I was surprised they didnt have someone close to the parking lot to help with the bags. 2. Staff were very friendly and helpful and almost everyone made you feel welcomed to the course. We arrived early for out tee time and the starter was very accommodating to get us out early. It was great to see the bev cart a few times as it was a warm day. They do have lots of water stations with cold water and a chilled snack area filled with ice and cold apples(which was a nice touch for the golf course). 3. Golf course was in decent shape. There were a few bare spots in fairways and greens (particularly hole 4) but overall, enjoyable course conditions. Greens medium speed, soft and quite receptive to approach shots. Bunkers are plentiful and well stocked. Design is quite fun and not too punishing for wayward shots (except for a few holes!) Overall, a great experience. They treat the customers as customers should be treated and they do the little things that make you say... WOW!...Definitely will be back. ps. they have Titleist balls for the range balls!

Played 6/16 on a beautiful day as a single. My tee time through GolfNow was for 9:50am but the starter said I could go out whenever I wanted. After my warm up he suggested I go off on 10 first since he had sent out a foursome on the front about 15 minutes before and I'd pretty much have the course to myself. He was right - I did catch up to a twosome after 4 holes but was able to pass them at the turn and the second nine was wide open until I caught another twosome with only two holes left to play. Overall, I played in a little under 3 hours.

Conditions overall were very good. Tee boxes were lush and level. Fairways were pretty good, with very few brownish spots. The rough was penal but fair. Greens were very good - not super fast but very true. Bunkers were very nice, with well-raked fluffy sand.

I really like the layout at Ojai. It isn't overly difficult and is a friendly design for higher handicappers, but it still challenges the better player who is trying to score low. The setting is gorgeous, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, and there are great deals to be found on green fees.

Just getting to the point:

- Many of the Tee boxes were sanded and a bit slippery
- Fairways were just okay, not lush.
- Greens look to have been punched within the last month. Slow, but putting true.

I'd wait at least a couple weeks for the greens and tee boxes to come back before going out there.

Some playing partners were telling me that Soule Park down the road is a better course and less expensive.

Last time I played here was about 10 years ago. As I recall the golf shop was adjacent to the restaurants , practice green and the 1st and 10th tees. Now you have to travel all around to the back of the resort where the driving range is and park about a 1/4 mile away. Also the nines are now reversed. We were the 1st tee time but couldn't warm up on the range because the golf shop was closed. Finally the shop attendant showed up 15 minutes before we were to tee off. Teed off cold on 1 which used to be #10. a funky fairway, blind to the green. The course itself was ok shape. A terrific layout. I've played in better shape during spring and summer. Paid $79 green fee and cart and $10 replay after lunch. Better not mind a $13 hot dog or a $25 burger. Overall I was disappointed in the golf shop location, parking, and access to food. Use to be a lot easier to access golf shop, parking and food.

Do you have a bucket list for golf courses? Please add this one to your list. Played today in spectacular weather for twilight fee of $89. This course is an absolute gem to play and the total condition of the fairways; bunkers; greens are fantastic. We played in 3.5 hours and virtually had the course to ourselves. I had recently read GK's review from a few years ago (please read it) and realized I wanted to play this course. I am glad I did. The greens are absolutely pristine and very fast. If you have not played this course, do yourself a favor and play it. You will not be disappointed at all. If you don't like this old world course from bygone years, I would be very very shocked.

Course is a bit rough right now - they've overseeded the fairways and they need a month or so to fill in. Otherwise the layout is the same, beautiful and peaceful with a hint of private. I really love this course but the rack rate is ridiculous for what it is... Golfnow really makes the drive worthwhile however and we go out as much as we can for the < $100 fee.

The upside is the layout, the beauty and the service. The downside is the kikuyu grass that populates the course. It is mixed in with rye and makes for some very awkward lies and some frustrating shots. And the fact that the grounds keepers dont seem to understand the need to either stop mowing or get out of the way all together... I do find it odd that they mow and do maintenance at 11am on a Sunday... why would they mow during the peak play hours??? I dont think they are managed well in this regard...

There are a couple of really difficult holes - the 7th is almost impossible to make par on due to the narrow fairway and overgrown tree next to the green. Its a beauty but can ruin your round too...

Play it, its one of the better tracks in So Cal but come prepared to find mixed conditions and occasionally slow play due to it being a resort.
