Every review of this course is the same, the course is fantastic. I played on Friday morning, POP 4.5, due to slower foursome in front of us, but it happens, they were the only setback on the day. I got a tee off deal and paid $30, which a complete steal for this course. If you hit the ball in the fairway you won’t have a bad lie, I never have. I take the hour drive from Santa Clarita to Ventura, but if I lived closer I’d play it everyday. Yes it gets windy, but it works to your advantage as well. Hole 16 is one of my favorite holes. You also don’t get hilly lies like some of these tricked out mountain courses. If you want affordable golf, the way golf was meant to be played I highly recommend it.

Not a ton of info to add to Kviser's review. This was my first time playing Olivas and all I can say is what a deal this place is. From the staff to the conditioning this course was spectacular. Fairways were like carpet. Greens were smooth and rolled true. Everything else was in good condition as well. I cant wait to go back.

Played this morning with fellow GKers Matt and Steve. We teed off around 7:00 a.m. and finished in about 3 hours and some change. Third group out following a twosome. We could have pressed, but it was all good. The course revealed itself as the sun rose above the horizon and it was as pristine as I have ever seen it. Everything mowed and the morning dew glistened off all the soft contours of the turf. Yeah, I was hard. Joking!

Greens: They were soft and rolling medium fast. No real bumpiness, although some maintenance took place earlier and there were a couple of tire tracks and that foam spit from a spray rig. Not an issue. I repaired a few ball marks here and there.

Fairways: Great roll out on most drives. No bare areas, although there were a couple of low lying areas that were a little wet, but you mostly could not tell unless you drove through it. Lots of good yardage markers on the sprinklers. Several valve boxes along the left side of 6 or 14 were nicely edged but they were about 2" low. Steve hit a low shot that got deflected by one. Other than raising those low boxes, it was very nicely maintained.

Rough: Very consistent if you kept it in the primary rough where they mow. Outside that, well, you might lose a ball in deep kikuyu or you could have a nice soft dirt lie. Just 50-50 if you hit into the "natural" areas.

Tee boxes: We played the Club tees (whites) and they were level for the most part. Mowed nicely but probably due for a cut as it didn't appear to be freshly mowed. Not a lot of divots either. We noticed that a crew was working on re-doing the back tee on Hole 8 (par 3). It was being completely rebuilt and will be bigger than before. Good to see that kind of effort.

Bunkers: The sand was soft and well groomed. No issues trying to hit from it, except for maybe our technique. It was relatively moist in the morning but no areas were overly wet.

Great pace of play in the early morning and a great rate ($39 riding) from Teeoff.com. It's one of the best courses in the area and well worth the hour drive from Santa Clarita.

Walked the Blacks this afternoon 10/29/2018 with my buddies Mack and Brian on a teeoff promo code for $19.00. Weather was perfect mid 70's with hardly wind. Packed tee sheet in the early afternoon as our POP was just shy of 5 hours. Very friendly staff, great practice area and great conditions at Olivas!

The fairways are still in great shape even this late in the year. We are almost in November and they are still super lush, green with great padded lies.

The rough was uniform, green and semi lush and in great shape as well.

The tees are always usually the highlight here and they did not disappoint being both level and lush with the par 3 divots filled in nicely.

The greens looked great to the naked eye and rolled semi-smooth with just a couple bounces. They are coming off maintenance on 10/8 and I would say they were almost back to regular shape--maybe give them a couple more days to a week. I fixed several extra divots. Still very playable.

Was not in any bunkers but they all looked raked and in great shape.

Great temps, fun layout, good prices and nice staff. If you love golf you will love this place. If you are looking for the fancy Country Club Clubhouse and amenities they don't have that here but they got everything else going on!

Recommended.

Played yesterday afternoon, riding with a course "End of Summer" special for $28 after 2:00. It was not crowded until about hole 6 where we started to hit the back end of the groups ahead. Pace was about 2 hours for the front and 2.5 hours for the back. The last four holes became a brutal hit and wait scenario: As many as five groups were on hole 16; a twosome on the green, two twosomes in the fairway, a single on the tee, and our threesome on the tee. Add to that there were so many little flies, landing on and biting us. Gross! Greens were good. Very soft and rolling medium fast. I fixed many ball marks. The putting surface was soft and bumpy at times, but rolled decently for the most part. Fairways were soft as well. Good coverage and mostly lush conditions. Despite being so soft, there was great roll on most shots. Occasionally there were some tight lies. I was agreed that the surface was great to hit from. Rough was also consistently lush from tee to green. No real problems hitting from there either. Outside the mowed areas of rough there was the usual deep kikuyu grass. If you hit there you can pretty much forget about it. The course has reduced the size of those areas over the years, but they are still there and ready to claim errant shots. Bunkers were nice; well-raked, light-colored sand. I was in one on hole 3 and it was in good shape. Tee boxes (we played the whites) were mostly level and nice. I think there were a couple areas that were a little uneven, but overall good. Other than those pesky flies and the pace near the end of the round, it was a very enjoyable afternoon.

0628 tee off, no issues, started on time. Paired up with a great threesome. POP was 3:45. I can’t say anything bad about this course. Everything was impressive from a value standpoint. Tees, fairways, greens, layout everything was outstanding. For the price it really is a must play. I would definitely recommend and will definitely comeback.

This is the best I have seen this golf course in a very long time.

The fairways are like lush PGA carpet surfaces. They must really be watering out here lately. Perfect lies. Rated 9/10.

The tees were very lush and mostly all level. Great shape. Rated 8.5/10

The rough was green, lush and in great shape. Rated 8.5/10.

Bunkers looked to be in good shape with deep thick nicely raked sand.

The greens were soft, contained many pitch marks that we fixed and rolled semi-smooth with minor bumps. Rated 6.5/10.

Other than the greens which are not that bad the rest of this course(fairways, tees, rough) are all in the 8.5 range.

Highly recommended.

Played 9-4-18 early morning as a single on a Teeoff deal for $16.50 and getting around the course in about 2 hours. Tee boxes were very nice , lush and level except for back tees on 8 and 13 which are a little un-level. Fairways were in great shape, very lush with great lies, not much roll out with them being heavily watered. Rough off of fairways is very nice maybe 2 inches and lush, getting a little further from fairways can find you in anything from hardpan to to foot high native grass. Was not in any bunkers but they looked to be in good shape as always here. Greens were very soft and a little on the slow side, but in real good shape and rolling smooth. Fun flat walkable course that is in really good shape right now.

Played Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, 8/13-14/2018, in the SCGA 4-Ball Senior Net Championship. I hadn’t played here in ~10 years and had good memories of the course and layout (and had seen many positive GK reviews!), so was eager to get back and was not disappointed. Conditions were very good and the weather cooperated with sunny, mild temperatures and not too much wind. Greens were in great shape – good turf, pretty smooth and running at medium+ speed. Only the many recent ballmarks on most greens detracted from the greens. Fairway lies were great; lies in rough were OK in the close-cut stuff but don’t get into the longer native areas. The dry native rough is tough to escape; the lush stuff is just a ball eater! Most greens had shaved areas surrounding the greens where you could putt or bump the ball easily, but beyond the shaved areas the rough was grabby and you had to focus while chipping. All the water features are dry and you can frequently play from within the red lines. Tees were usually OK but par-3 tees were all torn up and lumpy/unlevel/sloped (we played from the White markers). Sand was in good shape. Large driving range with grass and mats – on mats for this tourney. Large putting green with realistic contours, although a little slower than on-course greens. Large chipping green with sand bunker. Adequate water available. Divot sand bottle refill rack and bin on #10. Single bathroom building but located at perfect intersection to service both nines. No clubhouse, just a trailer office. The trailer bathroom module needs attention – one men's toilet stall for the entire staff and shotgun tourney. I wish I lived closer so I could play this fun, well-conditioned course more often. Highly recommended. But #16 is a beast!
