Played 12-17-19 early morning as a single for $15.40 on a TeeOff deal and finished in about 1 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were mostly lush and level and in good shape. Fairways are getting a little firmer with good roll out and nice lies. Rough along fairways and around greens was in real nice shape, about 2 inches and lush. Was not in any bunkers but they looked well groomed with nice white sand. Greens were in nice condition, rolling medium/fast with an occasional bump and minimal divot damage. Course is starting to show a little winter wear but overall still in good condition and well worth playing.

We played here yesterday teeing it up at 10:30 and finishing in 4.5 hours. I don't get a chance to play here much because it's an hour drive without traffic and the men's club takes all the early tee times on Mondays which is when I play. This is such a great golf course to walk and play. Reminds me of Rustic Canyon! The conditions right now are really good. Tee boxes were excellent, fairways were great, and the greens have healed nicely and were fun to putt. This course can be a real challenge with coastal winds blowing but it was perfect on this day. I look forward to coming back.......great course, great setting, and very enjoyable conditions.

Played 10-29-19 early morning on a Teeoff deal for $17 including cart and finishing in under 2 hours. Tee boxes were in good shape with nice coverage, level stance, and minimal divot damage on par threes. Was a little surprised at how nice the fairways are for this time of year, very lush with nice lies with some minor brown spots. Rough was in good shape, lush and about 2-3 inches thick but not to difficult to get out of. Bunkers looked to be in good condition, well groomed with fluffy white sand. Most of the greens have healed up nicely from being punched with a few needing a little more time. They rolled mostly smooth at medium pace and held well struck shoots nicely. Fun easily walkable course that is well worth playing.

Rode on 9/23/2019 with RGM2525. After not playing for 3 weeks thought I would be rusty but ended up with a 69.(Maybe need to play less?) 26 putts and perfect playing conditions other than a slight wind had lot's to do with that. Our POP was 3 hours 30 minutes doing some waiting for some groups ahead.

Greens were in nice shape, soft and receptive as usual. Rolling medium speed. Had number 3 pin placement that afternoon so some pins were tucked and challenging. 7.5/10

Fairways are just flat out awesome for late Sept. Semi lush to lush in almost all portions. Green and great lies. 8 to 8.5/10

Tees lush, level and in good shape. 8.5/10

Rough cut uniform, nice green shape, semi-penal. Outside of the cart paths its lost ball city. 8/10

Was not in any bunkers but they looked to be there perfect raked self with mostly white marble like sand.

Fringes mowed and in great shape.

Fun layout, very good golf conditions. Great staff and weather and very nicely priced. I can see why this course is so popular and becoming even more popular. Go play. Recommended.

Played 9-23-19 afternoon with GDR23 finishing in 3 hours 40 minutes waiting on most shots which made it feel like a longer round. Tee box where in good condition, lush and level with minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were very nice providing good lies with decent roll out. Rough was cut to a uniform length along fairways and around greens and in good shape. Was not in any bunkers but they looked in good condition. Greens where semi soft and rolling smooth at medium speed. Overall course in in real nice condition and fun to play.

On my up to play Hunter Ranch, had to stop and play one of my favorite courses. I just love playing Olivas Links. Always in great condition, staff is wonderful, reasonably priced, and a course that "fits my eye" and provides a good test of golf without being overly penal.

Greens were very smooth and rolled well, reasonably quick. Fairways lush with plenty of coverage. One bunker I found was great. Tee boxes level. Not much to add to the prior reviews. Everything about playing here is great, EXCEPT that it's too far from my home.

Headed to olivas to make my debut as a caddie. I caddied for my 13 year old in the US Kids Tournament. We walked, I normally ride. The caddies are the real hero’s because I walked my butt off. As an aside, I’m good for several of those lol. If you have young golfers I highly recommend US Kids, highly organized and fun. Dylan had a blast, until 16. As far as the course is concerned, it’s my favorite within an hour of SCV. You are gonna hit every shot. Tee boxes, fairways, traps and greens are great. Nothing to add to past reviews. Tee off has great deals for olivas. I did buy a Ohio State ball marker for $3, I would’ve paid $20. They are giving Michigan ones away, but no one wanted them.

Returning to LA from San Luis Obispo yesterday, 9/3, around 4:00 pm, I stopped by Buenaventura to catch a round based on Kviser's recent reviews. The lady in the shop had just sent out three high school groups and suggested I head down to Olives for better pace and even called to confirm it was wide open. I appreciated her heads up and service. Check in was friendly and I paid $22 to walk on as a single at Olivas. The starter said it should be open and he hadn't sent anyone out in a while, but two guys in a cart were teeing off as I walked to the first tee. They didn't wait and were a non-issue, staying just ahead of me through the front nine and then leaving. I have only played here a few times and not recently, so I opted to play the whites. Conditions overall were excellent. The teeing grounds were as consistently level and covered as any I've seen in a long time — really nice to just pick your spot and plant a tee. Fairways had nice, consistent coverage and I don't recall any exceptions. With natural areas in the mix, the off-the-fairway experience could vary, but where there was true rough it was very good — sometimes recoverable and sometimes more punitive, so very fair. I hit no bunkers so I have no input there. Greens were in nice shape running a medium quick that I tended to underestimate and run my putts further past the flag than intended. Actually a really nice speed, appropriate to the green contours without getting too fast. There was about a 1.5 club wind starting out that died off to almost still by the end of the round. Got around in a little under 3.5 hours — perfect timing for the time of day and all I could hope for. A really enjoyable layout in really nice shape, I definitely recommend it, but I did have one issue. It was warm to start, I was walking and carrying, and I never saw a water station on the front nine. Maybe because I was walking and not tracing the cart paths (cutting from green to tee), or otherwise somehow missed them, but the first water jug I saw was by the office trailer after nine holes, so detoured over to refill my bottle. The first water jug I saw on the course proper wasn't until around the 12th hole. Sea breezes or not, and assuming I observed correctly, in a place like SoCal there should be more out there. Otherwise, no complaints and really enjoyed the round.

Rode the Blacks this afternoon 8/30/2019 at 1:15pm with my buddy RGM2525. POP was 4 hours 35 minutes behind a packed pre-holiday course. Weather was beautiful in the low 70's but we were met by a nice stiff 15mph-20mph at times ocean breeze.

Great staff inside the pro-shop with an awesome practice area.

Never had a bad lie in the fairways. Fairways still green in most spots with a tad of dry grass here and there but still some nice padding throughout. 7.5/10

Greens were in nice shape. Soft and super receptive. Irons dug in and got some backspin today except for the 11th green which reacted a little firmer. Basically true rolls on most all putts. Greens can be slower here on occasion but thought they both looked and putted great. 7.5/10

Tees are always immaculate here and no different today. Level teeing grounds that were mostly lush. They leveled and re sodded the back tee on 8 which looks awesome as well as re sodding #17.

Rough is in good shape. Green and lush. Luckily as a group we did not have one ball off the tee in the native area today. Native areas have really grown up outside of the cartpaths and are a punch out or lost ball if in them. Rough rating 8/10

I was in fairway bunker on 7 and greenside bunkers on 17 and 18 that contained nice quality sand that does not appear to be thick on the surface but contains nice quality thick sand underneath.

Love Olivas. They have challenges from the black tees on 6, 12, 13 and 16 and some scoring holes like 1,4,9,14, 15 and 18. Love the layout, temps, staff and pricing. Conditions are always above average here. Recommended.
