I haven't been out to Olivas since it reopened. Before the redesign, it was one of those courses that I never gave much thought too. But, now, wow, what a great course. Everything about this course from a playing perspective was outstanding. Tee boxes were great, fairways were lush, rough punished just enough, sand traps had the correct amount of sand, and the greens were receptive to shots and rolled very true. Our group wished we would've seen the cart girl more than once and the lack of a true snack bar at the turn hurts a bit, but I can overlock both of those items for this course. What a great value this course is. It is definitely back in my rotation.

I played Olivas Links a couple of weeks back. Contrary to my previous review that was provided just after the course opened, I think that the conditions for this course are great. If and when they ever get a clubhouse, this will be a first rate facility.

My only complaint was the pace of play. We started at about 6:30am. After two holes the group in front of us was already behind an entire hole and this increased over the next few holes. The marshall thankfully discussed the problem with the group in front and there was some improvement. However, we waited on every shot the entire round. If I was playing the course late in the afternoon, I might be more forgiving, but when I book an early Saturday tee time I don't expect to have a slow round.

The greens were great. Every putt went where it was aimed. The fairways were greatly improved. The issues that the course experienced when it first opened are no longer a problem. I find that this course presents a great alternative to the other courses in Ventura County.

Course experience counts. Your score will improve with each round becuase you will know what areas to avoid. On course service could improve significantly, especially since there is hardly any service at the turn.

Overall, I am favorably impressed by the quality of golf at this course. I would hate to see it become popular as this will only bring more players on the weekends when I want to play.

Played 7/27/09 - and a pleasure it was too. Great conditions, perfect weather - this place is a treasure. A walker's paradise. Fairways were green and gorgeous - didn't run hard like true links. Greens were receptive - rough can be a challenge, sand was plentiful but a bit soggy. Cart boy/girl often in evidence and marshalls too. A very gratifying golfing experience.

Been playing the new Olivas since it opened and the conditions right now are truly special. The fairways are some of the best fairways in Ventura County. They are green and are lush. They are in such nice shape that you are not getting much roll to your drives. The greens are in great shape and slower for Olivas's standards but have little to no ball mark damage and are holding shots from everywhere well. The sand is high quality. The rough is UP along some of the fairways and around some of the sand traps(like hole #14). The tee boxes are beautiful and lush. The summer conditions are perfect at Olivas. The temp was in the high 60's low 70's today with a nice breeze. Pace of play was a little slower today as there were alot of golfers out on the course late today. The pro-shop staff are always friendly and the practice facility is great. If I lived in or around Ventura I would be playing this course 3 times a week. Top notch conditions right now.

This is an excellent track. But I don't recommend playing this on the weekend. We played Sunday 7/26 with a tee time of 12:13pm. We teed off about 12:30. At 4:45pm we finished the 13th hole. There were 4 groups backed up on 14. We decided to call it a day after 13. It would have taken well over 6 hours to complete the round. From talking with one of the course employees this appears to be fairly typical for the weekend. If you want to play this course, find a way to do it during the week. Now, on to the course itself.

This is a wonderful golf course. The fairways are very lush, tee boxes are level and the greens roll very well. This is one of the best conditioned public courses around. You do have to contend with a fair amount of wind. It doesn't feel that windy on the ground, but when you get your ball in the air it's a different story. Many of the holes are dead into the wind. So it plays quite a bit longer than the stated yardage. Oftentimes, you're dealing with a two club or more wind. But I really enjoyed this course. Lots of different looks and challenges. Another great aspect to this course is the summer weather. While it was 95 where I live (SFV), it was 70 in Ventura. Perfect playing conditions, no extreme summer heat. I highly recommend this course. Just don't try the weekend.

It's a fun course, in very good shape for a muni. However, when we played it on a Saturday afternoon, it was s-l-o-w! We started only about 15 minutes late, not bad for a 2:30 tee time, but it took almost SIX HOURS to play. We finished the last two holes in the near-dark as the last group on the course. C'mon, course marshalls. (It didn't help that two bogie golfers in front of us were playing from the tips, despite a scorecard admonition that these are reserved for 6 HCP or better.) The track is more than fair, the greens well tended if a bit uneven in speed, the links vegetation difficult. Two suggestions: Bring a sweater, and read the "winter rules" bit on the scorecard about treating the natural areas as a lateral hazard.

Played Sun 7/12. Starter was behind almost 25min...2nd time in a row that we went off late. Range was mats only. Now on to the good stuff. The course is the best it's ever been. The fairways have been dormant and patchy since last summer and they have finally grown in nicely. The greens are always great. Sunday they rolled true and were med/fast. Very enjoyable round...once we got off of the first tee.

The last time I played Olivas (and I am a local) was 10-12 mos. ago. The course was a little worse for wear. Chipping around the greens was tough because the grass was tight (thin) and firm. Todays round (July 13) was much more pleasant because the grasses were lush and full you could get a club under...Still some firm spots around the fairways. Greens were medium fast I was impressed...Greens had some ball mark damage (people dont fix their ball marks anymore pisses me off)...Price was decent, course was fun, knocked out 18 holes in 4 hrs. (playing skins! )

Walked from the tips in 4 1/2 hours Friday afternoon. The fairways - tees are incredibly lush, the best I have seen Olivas since shortly after it re-opened 2 years ago. The greens putted very well, the speed was consistently medium fast. The sand traps had good sand and were well maintained. They have mowed down the rough in many areas it used to be deep to knee deep. My first round there w/o a penalty shot in awhile (at) Olivas, and that was a contributing factor.
