So walked on today at about 9 and walked with one other player and another guy that rode. got around pretty nicely in just about 4 hours or a little under. fairways are in great shape. it look like they mowed them and there was some cuttings on the fairways but other than that the fairways were in great shape. greens were firm but holding shots for the most part, I've always had a tough time reading and putting on these types of greens but still had a good time. had two birdies for the round which was always nice encouraging one on 6 and on 9. sand traps vary depending on where you were. some of them are natural sand traps others are man-made so they vary depending I was in two of them today both are in good condition tee boxes are in great condition no problems there. a tough place to play if you're walking make sure you have lots of water and sunscreen and patience!! have fun go play ??

Played on 9/1/19 in the afternoon. Always challenging to play in the afternoon because of the wind. But playing this course so many times, the challenge makes it fun sometimes.

Course was in good condition. Fairway were overall lush. Rough was not to tall, but some places punished you being in the rough. The greens were punched a couple of weeks ago. Healing well, but a little slower than usual. I thought that the slowness made you think the way the grass grows and pulls the putt. Some uphill putts were smooth and faster that putting downhill because of that. Go in the sand a couple of times. Plenty of sand in the ones that I got in.

Cart lady came around a couple of times. It was good because it was a warm day.

Always fun coming here. This is one course that you don't have to worry about playing condition!

Played the final round of my Flex Tour season at Rustic Canyon on Saturday and it was an absolute pleasure to get back out to Moorpark. $68 to ride from the blue tees, and my playing partner was late to the first tee and they were cool enough to drive him out to meet us at the second tee box.

Read some earlier reviews that seemed a little shaky with the greens, but found the course to be in really excellent condition all across the board. The greens were actually in great shape, running very true at around a 10.5 to 11. Such fun green complexes at Rustic so I was really thrilled to only need 31 for the round.

Fairways not crazy lush in all parts, but it's September now after a hot summer in a very warm part of town, so it would be crazy to be upset about the nice coverage out there currently. And there are definitely some lush sections, so don't misunderstand. Rough is not penal and just slightly longer than the fairway cut. Tee boxes are in good shape and the sand that I was in was only from the waste areas or fairway bunkers, but I did not hear any complaints from my playing partners who were in the greenside ones.

Nice GPS in the carts now so it appears they've upped their game there, and of course this Gil Hanse links style layout is about as good as it gets anywhere. Just a super fun round of golf in a beautiful setting and on an equally beautiful day. Loved it. Go.

Played here yesterday (8/23) with my buddy JP as my first round as a now resident of Ventura County. Hadn't played Rustic in nearly a decade and it was just as I remembered it. Conditions today were better than I expected given the last review and not knowing what I was walking into after so many years. Staff, facilities, course all were great and made for an enjoyable day.

Tee boxes: Nothing out of the ordinary here, a few boxes a bit chewed up but never had any issues finding somewhere to place to tee in the ground. A few boxes could have stood to be more level, however nothing that prevented you from getting solid footing for your drive.

Fairways: Good shape. As a links course, it's important that they have roll and they did today. Lies seemed to be fair and people did a good job of filling their divots.

Rough: Not much rough to speak of as the native areas are far more prevalent, but what is around is sticky and some of the grasses would literally take your ball and make it disappear.

Bunkers: I don't think I was in one amazingly, but the sand here is not the pearly white stuff you traditionally see and if you aren't used to the more native-area sand, it can really mess with your shot shaping.

Greens: As the last review alluded to, yes they have been worked on but it really didn't have THAT much of an effect on putting on this day at least. The greens are so big and so undulated that I don't remember a single putt that skipped or deviated from its intended destination. I would go so far as to say they were the highlight of the round between the insane breaks and the roll speed.

ETC: Pace today on a 9AM tee time was a shade over 4 hours with some minor waiting on the group in front. Staff was good, and facilities seemed good as well. Cart attendant came around 3-4 times and there seemed to be water jugs peppered throughout the course. Layout here is so much fun and it's amazing to play links-style golf. For the price, it's worth a visit.

Update on Rustic. Played in an event there on 8/18. What a difference a week makes. Although not listed on GK, most of the greens were punched and sanded and were very slow. Pure luck to make anything over 5 feet. Been hot and the rough around the edges is poor. Would not play here the next few weeks.

Rode the Blacks this morning 8/12/2019 teeing off around 9:30am with a super cool couple Steve and Margaret. Pace of play was 4 hours with a little waiting behind what looked like a pretty full tee sheet ahead of us. Weather was beautiful in the morning and heating up on the back nine--ball was just flying forever in the hot sun today.

Greens were in really nice shape. They sanded and punched the last 5 greens on the course(14-18). Greens 1-13 rolled beautiful and held shots nicely. Last 5 greens played good even with the sand and minor punches.

Fairways are still in good shape even with the recent hot weather. Most lies are lush with your ball sitting up. Saw several sprinklers on today so I know the course continues to water to make things lush through these hotter months.

Was only in one greenside bunker that contained raked, firmer sand that was still easy to get out of.

Tees very nice and level and not much divot damage on the back tees at Rustic.

Greenside rough is perfect, lush and beautiful. Farther you strayed away from the fairways rough can be spotty.

Just a fantastic course with great green complexes, good conditions in the fairways, tees, greenside rough. A must play and a nice challenge.

Rode the blacks this morning 8/5/2019 teeing off at 6:30am and finishing in 3 hours catching a couple super early morning groups on the back nine. Played 2-3 balls during a beautiful morning.

Course is in great shape, no real changes since my last round out here.

Greens rolling beautiful, slower with morning dew speeding up nicely as the sun came out. Holding irons and wedges with spin. 8/10

Fairways lush, green and ball sitting up nicely. They stock all the carts with plenty of seed mix for those that compress the ball. 8/10

Tees in nice shape--maintenance out rotating the markers this morning. All tees look level and lush. Speaking of tees really enjoy the blacks on 5, 13 and especially 14 where I hit a bomb over right side of the trees and still had 175 in(great par 4). 8.5/10

Dropped several balls in some bunkers for practice as I waited some on the back nine and they played firmer on top with just enough sand underneath.

Greenside rough is close to a 9/10 rating and rough lining the fairways is a mixed bag of lushness, some dry rough and even a couple of real dry spots.

Highly recommend Rustic right now with how nice the greens, fairways, tees and greenside rough is.

all right, played here on Wednesday the 25th and it was spectacular! I have not seen this course in better shape in a long time. The last time I played here It was so windy that I couldn't even review the course fairly. This time they were mowing fairways greens and tee boxes! You might want to ask why were they mowing fairways? Well they were lush. They had a good inch/inch and a quarter of grass on them so you could get the club on the ball, it was fun! Greens were typical links-style big false front, very firm and fast very challenging but they held shots overall. The course is in fantastic shape. like I said never seen it greener!! Go Play!
