Walked the Blues (6634/71.6/128) in 4H, 45M mid day. Pleasure to be paired up with Ben and Chris, good golfers and nice guys. POP great on the front, but we waited practically every shot on the back. We played behind a 5some that definitely was running out of steam on the back in sunny, windy conditions in the high 70's. $49 a little steep to walk on a weekday. First round here is 4 years, felt like sitting down and catching up with an old friend. First time I had walked and carried in awhile. Actually easier than I anticipated after removing a bunch of non essential things like rain gear and extra balls from my bag. Love the large greens with mowed down aprons on this course. I remember when Rustic first opened, it was SO different than almost any other course in So Cal. New Blue tee on #6 since the last time I played here makes a huge difference. Hit a 9 iron today, usually #6 from the old Blues was a 4 iron for me. Tees were punched this morning. Did not affect play, they were decently maintained. Fairways cut close and were firm. Rough better than I remembered. Not tall, but it was more consistent than 4-5 years ago. Greenside sand traps had okay sand but did not look like they had been raked in awhile. Waste bunkers are usually hard packed and have plenty of rocks in them. Greens were as I remembered. Firm, medium to medium fast and several greens you just cannot be above the hole. COVID-19: Mask only required while paying. Walking only, noodles in the bottom of the cups allowed the ball to go in. No bathrooms @ the clubhouse, they required premade tee times. We distanced on the course as we walked, no issue maintaining 6' of separation. Customer service very good, they worked me in before my tee time with the 2some. Cart gal around several times. Conditions just good, far from great. However, IMO, Rustic is a must play experience if you are in the northern L.A. area just because of the nuances and different feel from 98% of So Cal courses. Recommended.

Played Monday 5/11 with super twilight tee time of 4:40 pm. It took us about 2 1/4 hours to play 9. Decided to stop on the 9th hole as it was starting to get dark and it was getting a little chilly.

The driving range was open and the putting green was open but it was limited to 4 players on the putting green. It's pretty much prepaid tee times only as the tee times are filling up rather quickly. It's still walking only. The clubhouse was open for take out drinks and snacks only.

Course conditions are still pretty good. The tee boxes had good coverage. There were tee markers this time. The fairways had excellent coverage. Tho' there were some spots looking a little yellow from the recent heat wave we had last week. Can't comment on the sand in the bunkers as I didn't land in any this time. One thing different this time was that greens were recently punched. The punch holes were pretty small so it didn't affect the putts too much. But at times the balls on the putting green would bounce a little bit.

There's no ball washers, no rakes in the bunkers and you have to leave the pins in the holes. There's no water coolers on the course so you must bring your own water or wait for the cart gal. One complaint I have was all the flags on the greens were red. I can't tell whether it was front, middle or back. I had to laser the distance to each pin on every hole.

Super twilight rate of $15 is great rate. Still trying to work my way back to playing regular golf after being off during this time. Stay safe.

Course was in great condition from tee to green. We as a group couldn't be happier with the conditions of the golf course. Landed in one bunker and it was in good condition.

Driving range was open and the putting green was open to I believe 2 or 3 players at a time. No food from the restaurant, cart girl was out, had to wear a mask inside pro shop. social distancing was not a problem.

I got beat up on the last 3 holes (lost my legs, I blame working from home lol) but we had such a good time we are going back to get beat up again on the 22nd.

I was out Thursday 5/7 with a buddy, joining another twosome, for a 2:40 start on a high 80's warm day. GDR just did a good write up only a couple of days before so this is supplemental. Overall very nice conditions. Playing the whites, consistently good coverage on the tees, most nice and flat with a couple that were a bit less so. Fairways here are never thick or cushy, but were well covered, generally green with a nice hitting surface and good rollout. Rough varied from natural waste and scrub brush areas to thick, green patches. With the extended fringes here, a lot of tight rollup area to putt from off the green. I actually saw enough divots in the extended aprons to wonder who is actually stupid enough to be wedging off that surface vs. putting? I was in a few bunkers, managed to miss any footprints and they played fine. They weren't difficult to get reasonably smooth with your foot and it seems most were cleaning up after themselves. The greens were in nice shape and running pretty quick. They didn't cross the line into scary or yippy quick, which I thought was good thing. Given the slopes and challenges of the greens, I thought the speed was spicy but appropriate. As an aside, the greens here are interesting and challenging, especially with the extended aprons. Between the contours of the greens and the overall slope of the valley I find the first few greens are particularly difficult because there is an almost funhouse mirror vertigo effect trying to read them. It also puts something extra into trying to land and hold your approach shot as well. Check-in was straight forward at the desk in the clubhouse, the range was available and, not sure if the practice green was formally open but, there were some holes without the little flags and a couple of people were putting. I elected to putt at a tee I stuck into the ground. The course was continuously busy at a pace a little shy of five hours without really feeling particularly sluggish. Temps were warm but there was a light breeze through most of the round that made it tolerable, and it got cooler and still as the sun went down. No water available on the course but the cart girl came around regularly. Nice strategic course in optimal shape that can bite you in the butt. Definitely recommended.

Walked the blue stones this morning 5/4/2020 at 10:50am joined by a nice 2 ball(Larry and Yung and single(Mark). POP was 4 hrs 45 minutes not waiting one shot and not being pushed by anyone behind us. For that long of a round it was weird both not being pushed or pushing anyone in front of us. Great staff inside the shop as always. Driving range open with mats. Weather was low to mid 80's with a 1 club breeze. COVID precautions walking only, flagsticks were left in with foam cups just below the surface, no ballwashers, no rakes, no tee markers out today, no restaurant service but cart gal was by numerous times on a hot day.

Rustic is in great shape at this time. This is usually the best time of the year for conditions at Rustic. With the course closed down last month they really have grown the fairways in, grown some of the fairway rough in, and the tees and greens are awesome.

Fairways are lush, padded and in good shape. Rated 7/10

Greens were medium pace, soft for Rustic's standards and in great shape rolling pure. Rated 8/10

Tees were beautiful, level and lush. Rated 8.5/10

Greenside rough beautiful 9/10

Fairway rough improving some 6/10

Was in greenside bunker on 4 that contained firmer sand but easy to splash out of. No rakes at this time due to COVID.

Highly Recommended.

Played on Monday, 4/20 with an 4:30 pm tee time. Course reopened today with social distancing in effect. Walking only. Took 2 1/4 hours to play 9. Not bad for $15. Course required that players play with masks on. But I saw a lot of groups that didn't keep their masks on the whole time.

Course was in great shape considering it was closed for about a month. Fairways had very good coverage. Being the first day of the reopening, there wasn't much divots on the fairways. The tee boxes were in good condition except for hole #8 that had a lot of divots from the back tee. Being the first day back, there were no tee markers on the tee boxes. We just used the SCGA markers to figure which tee boxes to play. I imagined they would be replaced by now. The greens were in excellent condition as there were very few ball marks on the greens. Greens rolled true today. Made a lot of one putts today. Can't comment about the bunkers as I didn't land in one today.

Different kind of play today. There were no ball washers, no rakes in the bunkers. You did not remove the pins on the greens. There was a pool noodle in the cup so you didn't need to reach far to remove your ball from the cup. Everyone kept their distance the whole time while we played. Driving range was not open the day we played but they said it would reopen the day after we played. The putting green was closed and will remain closed. Restrooms were open but only one person as a time in the restroom. The clubhouse was closed. But the cart gal was came by a couple times to ask if we needed food or drinks.

It was great to be out golfing again. Weather was nice today. Front 9 is pretty flat to walk 9. Bring your walking cart as I didn't see that they had any available to rent. Will be back again. Be careful!

Played 3/6 with a buddy at 120 for 26 bucks walking. Hard to beat that rate. Will say though, it was a prime reminder why, with so many other local options, I do not enjoy going to this course at all. Every few years I head back here and get my reminder on why I don't like playing here.

I'll start with the good - the fairways were in great shape. Nice and green; easy to hit from. Love the condition that these were in. Rough was also in great shape. Dark green grass, and very few patchy areas. Greens were also in great shape...little slow, kinda shaggy, but rolled true and easy enough to putt on. Didn't find any bunkers, so I don't have any input here.

Now to the bad...the pace of play here was god awful. In 4.5 hours we only got through 12 holes before we quit. It was so bad here, that on number 6, there were 3 foursomes playing together when we finished up on 5 so that they could all get through the hole (all groups hit to the green at the same time, then the appropriate 4 somes putted out).

To me, there are two key indicators as to whether or not I would recommend a course...pace of play and greens. In this case, the pace of play outweighs any positives that the greens would bring. I cannot recommend this course when Moorpark Country Club and Tierra Rejada are both less than 10 minutes away.

The fairways and around the greens were cut way too short where there's a lot of unplayable areas from mower hitting dirt and they looked overall pretty bad. The course is really flat and has moguls but basically no elevation change. A few times at 195 yards out the guy who knows this course takes out a 7 iron and bounces it a few times...right near the hole. Where was I? Over the green because they will not hold. The greens were so wacky that putting was at times comical watching guys in my group 3 times putt from 12 - 17' putts to hit a ridge and end up 40' + away off the green. None of them shot over 90 so they weren't hacks. I don't live close and will visit the area again but won't hit this course, much nicer ones around. The guy about 50 in the pro shop was rude but the starter was really cool.

So speaking about the last two reviews pace-of-play on a Saturday during a holiday weekend not surprised and neither should you be? Played Tuesday and just a few things about booking a tee time. I had a hard time on their website, it transfers you to the GolfNow website that they're using because I have four different types of players two seniors to Walker's but book the tee time for riding with cart and thought we can adjust the rate when we got to the course, not so! but the starter said you should book it for the lowest rate possible, seniors and then they can adjust it. not sure why they couldn't adjust the more expensive tee time they had something to do with golf now so FYI call the course and booked it through them and you won't get locked into some rate that you don't want. Okay on with my review, this golf course is a different type of golf, the fairways are firm, the greens are firm the bunkers are firm, it's windy! it is a links-style golf course you must embrace that style in order to enjoy this place. I ended up with two birdies, eight pars, seven bogeys andone double. pretty good for this place I'll take it all day we play the white tees. everything was really great about this course it is winter time the fairways are semi-dormant and rolling out quite a bit you must play your shots accordingly I musta hit at least eight greens in regulation the greens were holding for high lofted shots. my friends had a very difficult time putting on these greens they are hard to get used to and they're hard to figure out so when you come here have those expectations. if you haven't played here before, this is a very tough golf course and a very tough test of your golf abilities, Club selection, green reading, patience! I was told that they were going to go away from their ABC pin placements will no longer be in effect and that they're going to have five different pin locations on each green after they map the greens? anyway my buddies all shot in the hundreds normally there in the low-90s to mid-80s definitely not their cup of tea on the type of golf they enjoy but I still think this is an outstanding test of golf. Go play!
