Played Simi Hills with RGM2525 the other day, so I'm just going to add a snippet to his spot-on, concise review. (Can you tell we've been watching too much Downton Abbey?) Very nice conditions all around, pretty much as he described. He mentioned the greens were slower than he likes, but he plays at a high level and likes greens running around 12 — very quick. I'd guess they were running around at least 9-no-more-than-10 — still a pretty quick speed for the more average golfer and I liked them. So no contradiction to the previous report, just a clarification so you can set expectations accordingly. No cart service but otherwise good service all around. Nice course in good condition and got a good senior walking rate to boot. Glad we picked it for our match and definitely recommended.

Played 5-28-20 with T8fish, joined by another twosome teeing off around 2:15 and finishing in a little under 4 1/2 hours for $31 walking. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with good coverage.... Continue »

Played 5-28-20 with T8fish, joined by another twosome teeing off around 2:15 and finishing in a little under 4 1/2 hours for $31 walking. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with good coverage. Fairways were green and lush with decent roll out and nice lies. Rough was in good shape, not to long and easy to hit from. Was in three greenside bunkers all of which had very nice brown sand. Greens were in really good shape, rolling smooth and holding shots, but a little slow for my tastes. Overall course was in really nice condition .

Spent Friday afternoon at Simi Hills with kviser for our GK Cup match. His review of course conditions is very accurate and covers all the bases.

Great coverage in the fairways, pretty thick rough in places, very nice tee boxes, decent bunkers and nice coverage on the medium-fast greens which held shots well. POP was better than expected as we had what seemed to be a very slow group in front of us, but the clock at the end of the round did not lie.

The driving range was open which was nice and the snack shop was open, too. Check-in was pretty simple with a window open to the starter's office, and in order to get a cart, you need to tell them you have some physical ailment, which I did because of my recurring back issue, but it was no problem at all.

Simi Hills is always a super fun option and one of the best values in SoCal. It's a very enjoyable layout with a lot of variety and its solid conditions right now make it a must-visit.

Played here today with roarksown1 as part of the GK Cup 15. Check in was quick and easy. We both used the driving range. Not a lot to add to the previous review. Good overall conditions. Mostly lush grass everywhere with a few exceptions in the rough and beyond.

POP was 4.5 hours. Great beverage cart service; we saw her a few times. I paid $24 to walk at 1:40 p.m.

Greens were medium fast. No a lot of ball marks. I liked them, but I was hitting good putts all day.

Fairways were lush, cut nicely, and had decent roll. I saw very few areas that had divots that needed filling. It's mostly kikuyu and Bermuda here, so it was a nice mat of turf to hit from.

Rough was very penal in some areas; if you were somewhat lucky, you had a good lie with your ball sitting up. Many times my ball seemed to sit down and it was a challenge to get good contact. Also, shots from the rough seemed to be under trees or had uneven lies which made it more difficult.

Tees were good. We played the Gold tees, similar to Blues at 6381 yards. No problems at all to find a level lie. Good turf coverage and not a lot of divots, even on the par 3's.

Bunkers needed some raking, but due to C19, we all have to deal with the footprints. I was in a couple and it wasn't bad. Mostly, I struggled due to my abilities to hit from the sand.

Overall, I like this course and now I know I can walk for $24, I think I will return soon.

Played Simi Hills 5/12/20 in afternoon. It was busy but they are managing the check-in and starting well. There was a marshall on the course as well to insure good flow. It was a cool day and fairly breezy but a great day for golf. The course was in great shape on fairways and greens. There was a nice cart girl in service. They allow you to rent an electric cart a ride as a single if you have a physical ailment. I was very happy about that thanks to my bad lower back which was nagging me all day. They didn't ask me what my ailment is. I don't think I would have survived walking whole 18. I would say about 50% of players I saw were riding. The range is open but not the putting green. The club repair shack is open also. They keep the flags in the holes with a foam donut in to keep the ball from going low in the cup. You can't remove the flags. You can go to their website to read all the Covid-19 playing rules.

I was thrilled to find out Ventura County golf courses were open for business. I left my house in Rosemead around 07:20 am and arrived at 08:00 and teed off at 08:20. My buddy made a tee time for 08:50 am but it seemed Matt was getting the groups out faster to keep the pace of play on time. They have implemented a lot of precautions for social distancing (markers on the floor, limiting entrance to use restroom and bar area, no ball washer) but they did have water fountains on a few holes (use at your own risk). They use the service window by the first tee box to pay for the round and to talk to the starter. It was a warm day and they allow golf carts for those who are disabled. My group of gymflake, Roger Cleveland, and a walk on Ken were off and running. The fairways are lush with the rough around 1-2 inches in the first cut. The greens for being punched recently were running fast, true, and firm but receptive and holding a well-struck approach shot. They don't use pins but only shallow cups with progressive hole locations (hole 1 front, hole 2 middle, hole 3 back, and so on). We just lasered the group in front of us to get an approximate pin distance so no big biggy. They were doing maintenance with grass cutting and watering throughout the course but it did not affect pace of play or interfere with shots. The course was in spectacular shape and you appreciate it as you walk the course. Overall a great place to play and this course holds a dear place in my heart as it was the first place I shot even par. The staff is accomodating and marshals make sure you keep the recommended social distance from other players but in a respectful manner. The driving range is open for business along with the club repair shack but all practice putting greens and practice areas are closed. No rakes in bunkers so are prepared to use your foot to smooth out the sand for the next poor soul who finds the same fate as you. The bar is open and they have a cute beverage lady who comes around frequently to quench your thirst. Pull carts are available to rent. I will definitely be back. Shot 82 and I'm happy with that for not playing in 6 weeks. =)

Social distancing in place! Check in outside through the window. No cash. Walking only, plan on bringing your own cart because they run out early. There are no rakes, ball washers, drinking fountains and most importantly, NO FLAGSTICKS! Pins are Front, Middle and Back, use GPS or if you can Lazer the guys putting on the green in front of you? ;) Greens are still recovering from areation and are a little bumpy and slow but in great shape, fairways are perfect, Rough is high and thick in some places as they haven't had time to mow everything, so keep on eye on where your ball goes! Very relaxing pace of play because everyone is walking. Tee times by phone or in person only! It was great to get out to play! Masks are a must at check in and perhaps on the driving range. I looked maxed out when I left at 1:30. 8-9 am not as crowded. But remember, right now everyday is a Saturday because no one is working!

Played match play today with kassper7. We paid $47 to walk with a 9:48 tee time. Lots of winter dormancy and some tight fairways made for some good roll out. Overall conditions are fine to good. POP was over 5 hours with a lot of waiting.

The greens were medium fast; getting faster as the day warmed up. Not a lot of ball marks and they rolled true without a lot of bumpiness.

Fairways and rough were thin to lush at times. Lots of good roll in the fairways. The rough is kikuyu grass and sometimes will check your ball up, especially if you are trying to run one up from the rough, so be aware.

Tees (we played the Silver) were a little on the firm side and thin at times. Overall, they were mostly level and finding a good place to hit from was not an issue.

Bunkers: I was in two; The back bunker on 6 was raked nicely and had a good amount of sand. The fairway bunker on the right side of 10 was okay with a little bit of soft sand over a firm subgrade.

The beverage cart came by several times throughout the round, but we did not buy anything. I like the course and I had heard that conditions were good. I agree, but it's all relative. There is winter dormancy, so it does not look very green. However, the course is playing nice right now and the greens are rolling very well.
