Walked the Golds (6381/70.4/125) for 2 GK Cup matches today. 4H 15M morning POP, playing with Kevin, Derrick and Eric. 4H 25M afternoon POP playing with John, Dennis and Alan. Clear, breezy and around 95. SH is a fun layout to walk and play with few tees far from the last green. Front is hilly, back is flat with tree lined fairways plus a few lakes to keep things interesting. Medium difficulty course almost always in decent condition @ reasonable prices. Tees some lush and pristine, some just decent, but none were bad. Kikuyu fairways mostly good coverage with a few hardpan areas marked as GUR. Kikuyu rough more hit and miss. Not overly tall but often the uncertainness of what lie you will draw is the penalty. Throw in some wood chip areas where they did a turf reduction several years ago to water less that can be challenging to play off of. Sand traps well maintained with medium to large grain brown sand. They play better than they look, sand shot after sand shot from our groups were good. Greens were excellent. Smooth, medium fast and firm, downright quick on downhillers. They held approach shots well. Customer service was very good from all. Drink cart gal around several times, open restaurant. Large practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Decent driving range with mats 5/7 days. Excellent club repair facility beside the driving range that is usually manned. Recommended.

Played 4-14-22 early morning walking as a single for $38 joining a threesome and finishing in a little under 3 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were okay, mostly level, semi-lush with some divot damage on par threes. Fairways for the most part were in decent shape, mostly lush with some small bare spots with decent lies and good roll out. Rough was not that much longer than the fairways and in about the same condition. Was not in any bunkers but they looked well groomed with brown sand. Greens were completely healed from being punched. They were rolling smooth at medium fast pace and playing semi-soft. Haven't played here in about two years and I don't know why. Good layout, some minor elevation and a few water holes make this a fun easily walkable course.

Simi Hills 02/21/22, 10:55 tee time an finished at 3:38. Holiday rate $67 to ride/shared. As many know, this course gets a lot of play. Fairways has a few GUR and thinning areas on some holes. Teeing grounds were not overly chewed up and had ample spots to tee it up on grass. #7 had a major bunker renovation with a big machinery. I was only in one bunker on the last par three and it had plenty of sand. The greens were smooth and fast. With the exception of the unfixed ball marks, it’s good. Fun day at Simi today.!

Played in my first SCGA single-day tournament on Saturday at Simi Hills and found the course to be in its usual good shape from tee to green. I was forced to play from the tips (black tees) since it was my first event so that made it a much more challenging round. I did really enjoy the competitive aspect of the round and the fact there were no gimmees handed out.

I've always really enjoyed the layout at Simi Hills and this weekend was no exception, even though the course takes on a whole different shape when playing from the black tees, especially on holes like the par 3 7th where you're up on the hill high above the green. But overall it's just a really fun track that will put every club in your bag to good use.

Greens are currently in really nice shape, rolling fast and true. They do hold shots pretty darn well, too. Any downhill putts were quite the adventure and I had trouble getting the pace right all afternoon (to the tune of three 3-putts). Fairways are in good shape mostly everywhere but there were some thin areas and a few waterlogged ones as well. I was only in a few bunkers but they were more than adequate. Tee boxes were in good, flat level shape.

POP as one would expect in a tournament was definitely on the slow side coming in at just under five hours, but we kept pace with the group in front of us all afternoon. It just takes a little more time when every putt is analyzed to death and forced to find the hole. Cart service was outstanding, coming around at least every 3-4 holes with two different groups. Amazing.

Practice areas at Simi Hills are relatively small but get the job done, and the range is more than good enough even though it's kind of slightly wedged between the hillside and the clubhouse. It's fine though and could use a ball upgrade. But other than that, just another really great day at Simi Hills and I will always recommend this place for a fun round.

Walked Simi Hills as a foursome on Thursday, 10/7 mid morning. Overall Simi is in average condition. I really enjoy the layout. It provides a variety of holes, along with some challenging shots. The last time I played here (several months ago), the conditions were excellent. It is not like that now. Winter conditions are starting to set in. The tee boxes were a mix of good and bad. Some were chewed up and hard to stick a tee into the ground, and others were fine. The fairways are a mix of grasses. It looks a bit like a random patchwork quilt. I'd say half of the fairway landing spots are nice and lush, and half are either thin or bare. The rough has some deep grasses that are a little punitive to get out of, and some bare and thin areas as well. I was in two greenside bunkers. Both had adequate firm brown sand; easy to hit from. The greens were medium fast. They were mostly smooth, with a few bumps here and there. And they were soft; holding shots like darts. I enjoyed my round. I hope the conditions don't continue to deteriorate. It's quite playable right now. But is close to being in only fair condition.

Played 7-17-21 at 11:30. POP 6 (SIX!!!!!) hours. The starter informed us they had a tournament go out early and were running 30 minutes late. Honestly, having a tournament to start a weekend is a terrible idea and should never be done purely for POP issues which were evident. This really put a hamper on what should have been a very enjoyable day.

The course was in very good shape from tee to green.

The tee boxes were level and well kept throughout. The fairways had minimal dry spots and were very nice to play off of. The greens were rolling pure, looked beautiful, and had minimal ball marks. All three of these areas would score at least a 7.5 from me with the greens coming in with the highest marks.

The biggest areas for improvement would be the rough which was pretty spotty and inconsistent, the gravel pits sorry I mean bunkers and the green surrounds. This is going to sound strange but please use a little bit of that water elsewhere. The surrounds were extremely lush, a bit soggy, and spongy which made chipping a challenge all day and even shots with a low trajectory would stop dead in their tracks. On a course that gets as windy as simi having the ground game be a legit option would be nice. These areas would all rate between 4-6.5 for me.

Played Simi Hills Sunday 6-27-21. It was hot but at least they had a cart girl and she had a special bucket of ice to give out to players besides drinks and stuff. The course was in great shape and challenging as usual. Tee boxes, greens, fairways and bunkers all were in good shape. The kitchen and the bar were open. There's enough trees around to hide under for some occasional shade (and also to catch your balls occasionally). My cousin who is a 12 handicap shot about 11 over par so I guess from that you can maybe expect to play to your handicap. He hadn't played the course in a couple years either. There was a marshal strolling around pretty regularly so the pace of play was normal I'd say. Simi Hills is one of my favorite places but it gets some high winds in the winter sometimes. Be cautious of that in the late and early part of the year.

Did not linger around after round to use patio, though it looks nice. Conditions some of the best I have seen. I also would recommend playing here as well. Great customer service at all levels. Great Sr rate both for walking or riding.

Played a GK match with Sandrail05 on Saturday 6/26, joined by a single who fit right in. It's almost not worth getting into the particulars because the course is in excellent shape. I recall no issues with the teeing grounds, the fairways have good coverage and offer a nice hitting surface. The rough is fair and not particularly punitive unless you get further off into the more natural areas. I was in one bunker and it was clean but on the firm side. The short approach areas were well groomed, frequently on the tight side but more often a nice lie for wedging. The greens were very nice: clean, true and running consistently medium quick — there was some zip but nothing overly testy. I really liked the speed. The pace was good for a Saturday, and with some occasional waiting it took us a bit over 4.5 hours to get it done. In addition to the current conditions, I recommend this course as a fun layout that provides some variety and contour in the mix. The beverage cart patrolled regularly and the covered patio behind the clubhouse is a comfortable place to linger after a round. It might be out of the way for some, but if you've never played there, it is worth a look. Highly recommended.
