Six of us played on 1/16/14, starting at noon. Temps ideal in the 70's. Greens firm and smooth, tees lush and rest of course dry and hard. Drives rolled extra 20 yds. Scenic as always. Pace of play 5 hours. I'd play there more often if the commute was shorter.

Greens: 8/10 Highlight of the course. Fast and semi-firm. Hardly any bounce on putts. Holding irons nicely. Stay below the pin hole on this course at all costs.

Tees 7/10 Decent lush grass on the par 3's. Mostly all tees level. Some seed growing in. Pretty good shape.

Fairways 6/10 Winter roll, some hardpan spots and some spots of lush grass.

Bunkers: Was in right fairway bunker on number 2 which was raked with medium thickness.

I have seen the fairways in better shape but the greens were nice and for 18 bucks and the weather you can't beat it. Its a hidden gem when its windy in Ventura County

Got out to Soule Park this morning, and really enjoyed it, even though it kicked my butt pretty good. Greens are awesome, holding a well hit shot nicely, but releasing a lot if you come in without some good spin. They putted very quick, but very true as well, an absolute pleasure. Fairways and rough were all very nice, good to hit from. I found a few bunkers, and the sand felt a little heavy, but it was very consistent. Tee boxes were very nice as well. This is the first time I'd really played here in a long time, and only the second time overall, and I was very impressed with the quality of everything about the place. This was probably the best value I've had at a golf course in several years. If I lived anywgere near here, I would be at this place an awful lot.

Weather: 65 degree tee off-finished at 90 degrees- no wind to start, 5-7 mph breeze on start of back nine--perfect weather.

POP: Walking 4 hours 30 minutes

Greens: 8/10 Rolling real nice. Semi firm hardly any ballmarks, Severe sloped and undulating greens that kept you on your toes. Stay below the hole. Held iron shots with spin.

Fairways 8.5/10 Lush, green and almost perfect lies, very few minor dry and hard pan spots. Great job keeping them up guys with the summer heat they have had this year.

Tees: 8/10 I think they just did maintenance on them. They were all fairly level and green and in nice shape.

Aprons/Fringes 8/10 I am going to rate them an 8 but interesting thing here is they are so big and it is very important on chip shots and approaches if you are coming in low to know if they are going to be firm or watered and wet. The only knock I would give on them is some were watered and some were not. They were in good shape.

Bunkers 8/10 Light fluffy beach sand that was raked nicely for the most part.

Rough 8.5/10 Green, lush and a club grabber.

Overall 8/10 Gil Hanse(course developer for upcoming Olympics) has created a fun course here with around 4 challenging holes and for sure some birdie holes. I like courses that offer you both types. The staff is always friendly here, the rates are very good and the course is usually always in good shape with a peaceful backdrop.

Played today as the GK Cup #5 match with longball23.

Tee boxes: 7/10 - started out great on number 1, but some of them were on slopes or uneven lies, and some of them were a little torn up. 7 might be a little low, but the fact that some of them were in pristine condition tells me that they know what they're doing there and just let a couple of them slide.

Fairways: 9/10 - GREAT condition - especially for how hot it's been and the lack of water that we've had in SoCal this year. Not a lot to complain about here, except a couple bare spots on the back, but it definitely didn't affect the game at all.

Rough: 9/10 - some of it was VERY deep and some of it was cut low. Overall though, very playable (unless you were under the trees, in which case it would be more of a 5/10 rating). Looked like they were doing quite a bit of work to the tree line here, as it was much more cleared out than the last time I played here.

Mats: 7/10 - this maybe belongs under the fairway or green rating section, but since the mats came in to play so much I thought I'd give them their own section today. Mats were VERY inconsistent. Some of them were fast, and some of them were like Velcro. Could not get the hang of them at all, and that definitely led to quite a few lost strokes due to the lack of consistency.

Greens: 9/10 - despite my bad putting today, these greens were majestic today. Fast and smooth (for the most part, but can't penalize the course for others not fixing their ball marks). Some breaks that you just didn't see made the course challenging on some of the easier holes.

Bunkers: 8/10 - got the pleasure of being in both fairway bunkers and greenside bunkers today. You know that old saying "you better bring some suntan cause you're never gonna get off that beach"? - that was applicable to these bunkers. They were so soft that it was like walking on the beach. Only rated them down to an 8 because they were a little wet, but definitely still playable.

Round 3 of 4 on the Bday specials. I must admit I have never seen Soule Park in such good shape! My buddies Pedro, Mack and I played the Orange Tees 6541yds this morning 9/9/2013 as a threesome teeing off at 6:50am. Weather was perfect. POP 3 hours 45 minutes. Greens 8.5/10 Rolling beautiful, cut thin, very little old ballmarks present, they were in great shape. Probably rolling close to a 10 on the stimp. Many different pin locations here on undulating greens. You will earn your pars here on some of these complexes. I was very impressed with the greens this morning. Fairways 8.5/10 Probably the best I have ever seen these fairways---and I have been playing here for 10-12 years. They were semi-lush, green and there were no hard pan areas at all. Some areas had some minor wet spots and mud but nothing to severe. They were a treat to hit off of. I experienced every fairway on the front 7/7 and only one fairway on the back nine 1/7...keep up the good work on these fairways and greens Soule. Tees 8/10 Lush, green and mostly all of them were level. Very little pitch marks on the par 3 tee boxes. Sand Bunkers: 7/10... I was in two bunkers today greenside#4 and fairway #12 and both contained quality raked clay like dark brown sand that was damp. Overall good shape. Rough 8/10..In places like left rough on #18 fairway it was thick and lush. Other areas had some hardpan moments but for the most part it was good quality. Layout and Overall: I only paid a cart fee this morning with a bday special but I don't know how this course is only charging $24.00 to walk in the morning during the week. With the current conditions so great I think if you live semi-close this is the best deal around. In the summer though you want to try and play it close to first out due to the heat. The layout is strong with at least 3 par 4's that will test the best of players and the long 240yd par 3 6th hole. Staff is always friendly here and you can't beat the views and peace and quiet. I will return for some fall rounds here.

Played on Thursday with the LA Golf Group; $33 with cart. We asked for, and got in three extra holes afterward; went to lunch, and came back for nine more before dark for $14 more. I felt the course was in excellent condition. The fairways and rough were cut nicely and there were few areas that were not in good condition. Some areas of rough were left a little long, and hitting from it was difficult at times. The bunkers were full of great sand; it was crusty on top in several, but soft and plentiful enough to take decent shots from. The greens and approaches had some poorly repaired ball marks, but it was not horrible. I felt the greens were medium fast; rolling around a 10 or 10.5 with lots of break due to the undulations and subtle (and not so subtle) terrain features. The starter also told me they do plan on aerating this Wednesday (tees and greens). So go get some Soule Park now. After golf, go to the OBC tap house for some great beers and food.

Played here on Thursday 6/20 with the LA Golf Group. Paid $33 with cart. Great rate. The course is in very nice shape. Although the fairways have many different types of grasses (not carpet like) it is very playable. Most fairway lies set up very nice, with only a few areas that are a little thin. Tee boxes are fine. The sand in the green side bunkers is firmly packed but very playable, and consistent from hole to hole. The greens are in great shape, although they are a little aesthetically challenged with small blotches all over. But that doesn't affect the speed or roll. They roll true and are medium fast. This is a fun track. Lots of variety and great views.

Played Soule Park this morning(6/17) at 10:50am with Pedro7170 and his buddies. The course is in great shape set to host the US Open Senior qualifier this Wed 6/19. The greens were running around a 10.5 on the stimp and were in great shape. It seemed like the first 3 greens were faster than the others? I would rate the greens a 8.5 with very little ballmarks. The greens here are one the of the courses defenses and several are very undulating. I think the pin sheet has 7 or 8 different hole locations they can use. They held shots very nicely today. The fairways were in very good shape. Lush, green with moderate amount of roll. Did not encounter one hard pan lie today. I would rate them an 8. I was in one bunker left greenside on #3 and is contained some nice sand to it. I would rate that specific bunker a 7. The tees were almost all level and lush. the rough was rated a 7 and was anywhere from 2-3 inches. Some of it was lush. It was hot today in Ojai around 88 degrees. So if you are walking this course like we were during the middle of the day bring some water. We paid $24 to walk in the morning which is a great deal!. Staff very friendly in the pro-shop. Will return for sure.
