Played on may 31st (birthday round). I love this course. If it was about 30 miles closer I would play here often. First one to tee off Friday morning. Had to finish the round in 1 hour and 45 mins due to a big tournament beginning at 8 am. Finish the round in 1 hr and 15 mins. Conditions of the course is good to great. Couldn't tell you if the greens were really fast due to alot of moisture on the greens in the morning. I did see lots of unrepaired divot damage on some greens. If you like playing Rustic Canyon you'll love Soule Park since its designed by the same designer.

Weather: Breezy 15mph +

Greens: 8/10 Better than when I played on April 8th- needle cone fine punch not evident at all. Greens semi-firm and in nice shape. Holding shots with spin. Many pin placement places on these undulating greens- Gil Hanse can drive you crazy sometimes.

Tees: 8.5/10 Lush beautiful presentation and level

Fairways 8/10. Lush for the most part, thick in some spots but you still get roll.

Bunkers 7.5/10 Good shape just enough sand. There are plenty of the them on this course greenside and a few fairway traps that you just have to avoid. Some of the them are a shot penalty for sure

Rough: 7/10 Patchy in places, lush in places and thin in other places

Overall: 8/10 Looks like the course is really taking care of itself for the upcoming US senior qualifier. This is a weird course cause there are like 4-5 great birdie opportunities but yet it its a course that can be tough to score on. For the price at twilight during the week and weekend its a must play.

Tee Time: Monday 4/8/2013, played with Pedro7170, his brother in law and his buddy Tees: Tips Weather: Oh my 30-35 gusts, 70 degrees, sustain winds in the area of 15-25mh Greens 7/10. They actually just looked like they have a fine needle cone punch that is very small. It did effect putts somewhat but the greens here are still in beautiful shape. Maybe in a couple of weeks the greens will be back to there usual great shape. They are still semi- firm, contain very little to no ballmarks and are nice and green. They are receptive on shots and are large and undulating. They have many places to place the pins here thanks to the design by Gil Hanse. Fairways 8/10 Very lush fairways, great lies. Still get quite a bit of roll if you hit a burner type of drive. Very nice shape Tees 8.5/10 Very lush and green containing very little divots. Only a handful of tees are un-level. Bunkers 7/10 Was in 4 bunkers today...all pretty much played the same, just enough sand in them. To the naked eye when you step in the bunker they look hard and compact but there is for sure enough sand in them Rough 8/10 They are growing the rough up some just off the fairways. Anywhere from 2-3 inches. They are having a US senior men's open qualifier here and I assume this is why the rough is up some here. Layout 8/10 Several long par 4's and 2 really tough par 3's at this course. Great peaceful setting. We drove away from the Simi, Moorpark, Ventura winds this morning only to be greeted with more wind which is unusual for this place. Overall: For 24 bucks walking in the morning during the week this has to be one of the better deals around. I always enjoy playing golf up in Ojai and today was no different. Well done Soule Park golf course.

Wow Next to Rustic Canyon this course has the best value out of any in So Cal. I played horrible but enjoyed the course immensely. I want to play here again even though I live a great distance away. The layout is not too tough. However, it is very difficult to score here. The greens are very hard to read. They will have the senior U.S. open qualifier here in June. I can't blame them!

We played Soule Park today. After a 2 hour frost delay, which they say has been something regular since Thanksgiving we teed off the back 9. Was not sure what to expect but did read the prior reviews (thanks) and the tips (tried to remember as many as possible) and reviews/tips were a big help, as we all know. Fairways a little soggy and bunkers a little muddy for the first hour but the greens were in great shape so early after the frost delay. Fairways are a little "spotty" so better to play winter rules for better shots (if you are OK with that). I like the run up areas in front and around the greens like at Rustic Canyon. After the sun came up on a very warm day the course began to be more receptive to run in the fairways and very speedy greens. Cannot say enough about the way the frost delay was handled by the pro shop. We were in the 4th group and the regulars in front of us moved out quite briskly allowing us to play in 4 hours. I enjoyed the setting of the course; the layout of the course; conditions and customer service. Right now everyone is being offered the $24 rate (don't know why and did not ask) ( and for how long don't know). I realize this course is up in Ojai but it is well worth the trip. If you are going up to the Oxnard/Ventura area, make sure you plan some time to play here. You will not be disappointed.

Played Soule Park today 1/14/2013 with buddies to avoid the Simi-- Moorpark winds which were howling today. When we arrived at Soule Park for our 12 noon tee time there was no wind---beautiful conditions but a bit cold. Any frost earlier in the morning was not evident other than parts of #4 tee which is guarded by a huge mountain. The fairways were brown doormant grass with some thinner lies but for the most part I would call the fairways decent for this time of year. Many of the greenside sand bunkers have soft nice sand to hit out of including the fairway bunker I was in on #17. The tees were level for the most part and were a little bit lusher than the fairways. The fringes were cut tight and in good shape and the greens were in GREAT shape and the highlight of the course probably running around a 10, holding shots with spin and putting very true. The green complexes are huge, undulating and diverse thanks to Gil Hanse's design(who also designed Rustic). The walking rate of $18.00 for twilight during the week at 12 noon is a good deal for even winter conditions in the fairways. The staff here is very friendly and the layout of several par 3's and 4's here is strong. I would probably only pay twilight rates here at present time but think the course is in above average shape in a beautiful peaceful setting. Today it was nice to not play in 30mph plus gusts.

Fairways: Half green and half dry with many spots of mud from rains night before. In decent shape with no hard pan lies so can complain to much. Looks like the course is a little drier than when I played it the day after Thanksgiving
Tees: Lush enough in decent shape with a few tees slightly un-level
Greens: Best part of the course rolling fine around a 10 on stimp. Holding irons and chips nice. Just know that they can put the pins here on several hole locations as the greens here are huge and have some undulation to them.
Bunkers: Some wet sand still left over from night before but for sure enough sand in each bunker and nicely raked.
Staff: Very friendly in the pro-shop. My brother in law took a cart that had a nice GPS unit on it.
POP: 4 hours 20 minutes waiting behind several groups.
Layout: Playing very long and wet today. Some really tough holes here and a mixture of some good birdie holes....always a fun layout especially for the price.

Played Black Friday 11/23 this afternoon with my brotherin law and GK members and buddies Pedro 7170 and BarkyDog1...our group was let out 10 minutes late at 12:20pm...we finished the last hole in the semi-dark at 5:15pm...POP just about 5 hours. Staff was nice in the pro-shop and we had a great twilight walking rate of $26.00 considering it was a holiday. We looked to be the only group walking the golf course and they ran out of carts so we had the three groups in front of us standing on the 1st tee waiting for carts to be returned. The slow POP did not damper our group's enjoyment of the day. Weather was low 80's with no wind and very good golf course conditions. I played the tips while my playing partners played the orange tees just in front of the back tees. Greens were receptive and soft on approach and putted firm around a 9-10 on the stimp. Very little to no ballmarks on the greens. They were in very good shape. The fairways were quite green for winter golf and produced mostly lush lies. Our group was impressed with the fairways. The tees were lush and mostly level and in good shape. I was in one greenside bunker on #8 that contained quality sand. Some of the rough and areas off the fairways were thinner but not that bad. This course is so peaceful and right now is in good condition. I would recommend this course right now to all any golfer. Can't beat Soule's rates either....enjoy

I have had the opportunity to play Soule Park many times on early Sunday mornings with a few local Ojai boys. The course has impressed me every time I go out--with the condition of the greens, fairways, and tee boxes usually always excellent. The course layout is challenging but fair, and every hole gives you a wonderful view of the surrounding foothills of Ojai. The staff at the pro shop and the bar/dining area are super friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. There is almost always a pleasant beer-cart girl on the course, even early on Sunday mornings! This course is truly a gem and you cant beat the value, given a very reasonable green fee. Soule Park is definitely worth the drive from LA for me and I look forward to many great outings in the future.
