Played on Friday, April 17, 2009 with MoneysWorth and kilt1iron. It has been nearly 2 years since I played here and conditions are about the same. Course conditions are fine: greens and fairways little firm, but quite playable. I do have a couple of complaints: first, many of the bunkers had an inordinate amount of footprints in them. Little ones, like junior golfers playing vollyball at the beach. We were lucky not to have fallen victim to those as our shots saw plenty of sand. Secondly (and this is probably my problem for not hitting straight), many areas beyond the rough separating holes had unmowed weeds and grasses. Is this supposed to be a country club or the country? It wasn't as if they are trying to establish environmental areas inside the course. I say mow it. It will speed up play. I wasn't the only one in there.

Played Saturday for the first time. Great course, great staff, good time. Cost far less than Ojai Valley Inn and was just as enjoyable...

Played Soule for the first time on Sunday. The view of the first two holes from the road did not prepare me for how beautiful it is once you get back into the course.

Played Soule for the first time on Sunday. The view of the first two holes from the road did not prepare me for how beautiful it is once you get back into the course.

This place is very laid back with no starter, no mashalls, and no cart service (we were told that cart svc would start at 11:00 but we didn't see any by the time we left at 2:30).

The course is in very good shape right now...fairways are great, greens are variable. The Poe grass looks good on some, and ugly on others (#2 comes to mind) but all ran true. They became more receptive as the day warmed, but stayed pretty slow. Big aprons and big mounds remind you that this course was redesigned by the same architect that did Rustic Canyon. Tee boxes were mostly good with a few being uneven, but not enough to hamper.

There are some fun changes in elevation (#3 and #10) and you really feel like you're away from it all out there.

Pace was great at 4:15 on a Sunday and I will be back out there again.

Played twilight this afternoon 1/12 with a buddy to avoid the Simi/Moorpark/Valley winds. We drove up to the course and not an ounce of wind. Beautiful day to play golf. We were greeted and treated very nicely in the pro-shop, excellent customer service. They have two putting greens here and a driving range with mats. The greens today were in excellent condition, not many balls marks and probably rolling around a 10 on the stimp. They were semi-quick chipping and held iron shots well. The sand in the bunkers are soft and in good shape. The tee's for the most part were level, a few un-level. The fairways were not in the best shape but were not terrible... hit and miss. The rough around the greens were not in good shape and was very difficult to chip out of......different types of grass/hay growing different ways and thick which grabbed your wedges when chipping. The pace of play was excellent as we walked the tips as a twosome in 3 hours 45 minutes. No cart girl or marshall on the course. Reasonable prices at $18 walking for twilight. The reason I love this course is the peace of mind you get playing back in the mountains.

drove up to Ojai from Camarillo today and it was a very enjoyable day. The staff at Soule Park are very friendly and welcoming. The course was in good condition and the greens were great as usual. It was a very busy day there and our group finished in about 4.5 hours.

WE enjoyed a leisurely pace of play on a very hot day. The course is very scenic and the many sand traps come in to play on almost every hole. The fairways were mostly level but they are a little thin right now. The greens were undulating but in great condition.

My master plan was to go up to Ojai and play Soule Park for the first time and be the first on the course so I could find myself around, take some pictures and enjoy the scenery. When I got there I saw some fo the thickest fog I've ever seen. I was forced to wait to tee off so I could figure out where I was going. I eventually teed off and had a great experience on a great course. I didn't expect the course to be as challenging as it was. From the Oak tees (the tips) there are several 450+ yards par 4's. I felt like I was on tour. on the 245 yard par 3...I considered hitting driver even though I settled on a three wood. However, the layout was great as there were some shorter Par 5's and a short par 4 that added some vareity to the course. The greens were a little on the slow side and were somewhat deceiving from the fairway. Large aprons of short fringe surrounded many of the greens (kind of like Rustic) and made it tough to decipher if the pin was in front, back, left or right as the fringe and green looked the same from 170 yards. Fairways were very nice. The scenery was great as I felt like I was golfing in the wilderness. I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting this course in my rotation sooner. I will definitely be back and recommend the course to the traveling golfer.
