Played here today with Perry, Mike, and Jerry as the third group off (10:31). Weather turned out to be hotter than predicted and even though things moved along incredibly well, the sun really sapped my energy quick out there. As for the course, I was very impressed! The conditions, the layout, the feel (aesthetically), there really was almost nothing to complain about. In fact, I liked this course better than Spanish Hills which I recently got the privilege to play. The first review is very spot on and I'm sure those that will follow will be, so I will just do my best not to reiterate the obvious.

Tee boxes: Some weren't level but that's nitpicking at this point as there are more than enough level boxes to make up for the one or two that weren't.

Fairways. Fresh off overseeding, they were spectacular. Visually pleasing to the eye, nice cushy ground to hit from, a fair amount of roll.

Rough: Not sure who found the rough more than me, but some of it was Torrey-like. It grabbed my club and reminded me that taking your medicine is excellent advice.

Sand: Speaking strictly for the greenside bunkers; nice white-ish sand, usually enough under your ball to be able to play good shots and try for sand saves. Good amount of rakes also.

Greens: The highlight on an outstanding course. Fast, tricky reads at times and pin placements that scream "try me, just try me". Very few marks on the turf, GK did a great job today in cleaning up the scene.

ETC: No GPS on carts and today was CPO on the course which amazingly didn't make for a 5 hour round, fancy that. Staff encountered was great. No food and only a few water stations. For the price Johnny was able to get the Guru's today, I wouldn't hesitate to make it out here again.

My first time at The Saticoy Club, and it lived up to expectations. Just a fantastic course. Elevation changes everywhere, you rarely get a flat lie or a straight look at a green - it's always up or down.

I had been warned about the greens, and that was true. Real fast, and if you are above the hole you must be super delicate. And you have to know where to hit into the greens. I had one approach of 95 yards into a Par 5, my ballmark was 1 foot behind the hole, my ball ended up 20 yards back off the front of the green. Next hole I hit a 9 iron, ballmark was 20 feet behind hole and my ball was 15 feet on the other side of the hole - and if it had gone back 2 more feet it would have rolled 30 yards off the front. You really need to control spin here.

Greens were smooth and slick, but not vicious - except that they are so difficult to read correctly. The staff said everything breaks away from the hill behind the clubhouse. True, that does dominate the break, but I still couldn't get the break right. Tees and fairways are nice, maybe just a shade thin but still great for this time of year. Did find the sand a bit thin in a couple of bunkers, but most were nice.

So many really great golf holes here. #14 is just one of the great visual holes I have ever seen.

Played today with GDR23, Kviser and GDR's buddy Matt. Thank you guys for letting me join you. Very warm day on a beautiful course, but did not enjoy the CPO (cart path only). Made for a long day on a difficult course. Having not played here in over 20 years, I want to thank Johnny for putting this GK Guru event on. GDR23 does a great job in describing the course conditions. We were told the greens were running at 12? I think maybe faster after the day warmed up and the humidity took all the moisture out. Never saw so many balls roll off the front, back, side of greens in my many years of playing. Made for an interesting day of putting for all involved. The Par 3's were awesome. This course reminded me of many of the courses back East I grew up on? Each green was elevated, which forced me to hit one more club than the yardage was showing (and sometime two). I would imagine others had the same issue? The many elevation changes also add beauty and difficulty. The numerous trees lining the fairways will also play havoc with errant shots. The design by Billy Bell is IMO one of his best. The green designs, coupled with their elevations and the many traps, make this course a course everyone should get a chance to play. It truly is a unique golf course for S CA.

Rode the blues today 11/18/2019 with my buddy Matt, 24hourgolf and kviser on a picture perfect day with light breezes and temps in the mid 80's. Great guys to play with. POP was 4 hrs 20 minutes with nobody in front of us. I had not played here in 10 years. The driving range was a blast elevated where you could see shots hang forever. Range balls were in good shape with some being Pro-V1's. Driving range had artificial mat strip. They had 2 seperate putting greens and I thought the putting green speed was around the speed of the greens on the course which is always nice. Course layout is super fun and challenging at the same time. Some times courses are just fun, sometimes they are just challenging--this course is both. Beautiful elevation changes with a great backdrop on most holes(esepcially when you get on the back nine). Holes 2 and 3 are dogleg lefts and then there are holes like (12 and 16) which are awesome dogleg right holes. You need to not only be straight with your ball striking here but being able to work the driver either direction is a plus. Course has a great mix of par 3's which vary in length from the blues or blacks. Course has some nice strategic fairway bunkers and some well placed greenside bunkers to grab errant irons sometimes just barerly off line. Some forced carries on the back nine but overall the course is right there in front of you. The members here are blessed! The greens were fantastic. I could putt these greens all day. GM stated that they were running at a 12 which seemed correct. Several awesome pin locations today which the player really needs to concentrate on chipping and putting. I love greens that are both quick but still are soft and receptive. I had 3 wedges hit the front middle of the green and spin off the green into the chipping area which was fun. For sure knowing the section of the green to land the ball here comes with playing experience. Some smaller green complexes to start the round with some larger ones throughout the round. Rating these greens a 9/10 Fairways were perfect and lush with your ball sitting up. Cart path only today which helps the fairways both visually and playability wise. Some water on fairway 11 but other than that perfect. 9/10 Tees were mostly all level and lush and in great shape. Rated 9/10 Greenside bunkers were perfectly raked and were like light white fluffy pancake material. Beautiful bunkers! Rated 9/10 Rough was lush, green and at times penal. Some of the rough was different lengths and added character and toughness if you were offline. Rough rating 8/10. If you get a chance to play here I would HIGHLY reccomend it. It has everything you would want in a course--toughness, great layout, great conditions and peace and quiet. Can see why the US open qualifier was played here. My rating should come out close to a 9 condition wise.

Tee boxes were level with no divots and fairways were good shape , rough varied between 1 - 4 inches. Bunkers were consistent hole to hole.

Greens were rolling smoothly ( 12 - 14 ) some ball marks.

Today was very windy and on some holes it was swirling making it hard to club properly.

Great track if you get chance to play here , old school layout and makes you hit every shot in your bag.

This is an outstanding layout that is not only very challenging, but also a lot of fun to play. It offers some great elevation changes and tons of beautiful scenery. It's definitely a shotmaker's course, demanding the player to keep the ball out of the trees that line the fairways and often encouraging either a draw or a fade off the tee. This is the kind of traditional layout that I could play every day and never tire of it.

Conditions are good right now, highlighted by the nearly immaculate greens and green complexes. These were some of the fastest, smoothest greens I've ever experienced. Putts rolled true and did not have to be hit very hard at all. On one downhiller, I think I hit the softest putt I've ever hit in order to keep it from getting away from me, and fortunately I made it. Otherwise, who knows how far past the hole it would have rolled. Putting these greens was like a PGA Tour-type experience. Several greens had false fronts that resulted in shots rolling well off the surface, again much like you see in major championships. The fairways are probably a bit in need of a few good rainfalls to become lush, but they are very playable. Same goes for the rough. Tee boxes were great. The bunkering here is another design highlight, shapely and intimidating. The sand was very good quality, too.

All in all, I had a fantastic time out here with JohnnyGK, sixpez and Nadia. If I lived closer and had the means to join, I would definitely consider membership.

Teed it up with sixpex, Itslikeimsayin and 805frogger at Saticoy Country Club. Echoing many of sixpez’s observations about the playing conditions. The greens were in super shape even with some tiny remnants of an aeration back in September. Slick, smooth and sticky…can you ask for anything more? The bunkers are visually spectacular and excellent to play from. The fairways and rough on the other hand were certainly feeling the effects of the drought conditions in the area. Although not in bad shape, certainly dry and spotty. Tee boxes were in great shape…level, cut tight and lush.

As for the layout, I loved it. What a golf course. Terrific site lines from all the tee boxes require shot shaping in both directions as well as position golf. Huge trees that come into play on every hole. Green complexes that feature very challenging putting surfaces, well bunkered with diabolical traps, tough positions to get up and down from yet fair. This course will razor sharpen anyone’s short game and force you to be accurate off the tee.

Afterwards I got some info about memberships it’s was surprisingly more affordable than I guessed for such an exclusive club with an exceptional golf course.

I would love to play this course again and highly suggest it to anyone that can get on.

What a great treat to play out here this afternoon with JohnnyGK, Itslikeimsayin and Nadia from SCC. We teed off around 2pm and finished with just enough daylight. Basically had the course to ourselves, so we enjoyed a relaxed fun pace. The course is in pretty good overall condition, but clearly the drought has had its effect here. The tee boxes were great. The fairways were a bit patchy with a couple different grasses and some thin spots here and there. They didn't always look pretty, but I almost always had a nice lie. The rough was more hit or miss. They are definitely not devoting as much water to the outer edges of fairways and rough, but their pride and joy here is obviously the greens. It's clear that's where the biggest maintenance focus is as they are true, slick and fun to try and figure out. Very deceptive. Still a few minor remnants of the recent aeration, but almost fully healed. The other story here is the bunkers, which are truly menacing and not easily avoided. You will find yourself in one or two (or three or four) over the course of the round. They are awesome looking traps and just one of many things that makes this course tough. Between the deceptive greens, monster bunkers, plentiful trees and some tricky doglegs, this course will test your game on all levels. We played the whites today and I can only imagine how much more things ramp up if you play the blues or blacks. The two par-3s on the back nine are awesome and the stretch of 13-14 is oddly reminiscent of Torrey Pines. Really cool old course that's definitely worth checking out if you can get access.
