Played AZ prime season in January. Great value for the green fees. Rough was dormant but fairways were nice and greens ran mostly smooth. Some issues with pitch marks that hacks didn't repair, since greens were fairly receptive. The group (3-some) I was paired with was slow. Only countermeasure to that was constant "please keep up" message on the cart gps. But the course really needed to have a marshal to come up and tell my group to speed up, even though they were aware they were lagging behind while everyone was trying to beat darkness and finish.

Rode the Ruby tees (6825/71.2/133) in 4H, 15M twilight with Felix and Adam. Locals who play here alot and were great to be matched up with. Sunny, breezy and in the mid 90's. $59 twilight Sunday was good value for this course. U of A home course, also hosting the Ladies Symetra Tour this coming week. Really enjoyed the layout that was in excellent overall condition. It has taken me several years while visiting my daughter and son-in-law to make it around to most of the Tucson area public courses. IMO Sewailo ranks #3 behind the two Ventana Canyon courses and ahead of several other well known courses that have hosted the PGA, Champions or LPGA Tours. A few tight shots, but most holes have wide fairways with huge greens surrounded by lots of traps. Plenty of slopes, water and native areas to catch anything wayward. Tees very lush and well maintained. Fairways were excellent, near immaculate status. Appropriate I played this course on Masters Sunday, because these fairways were very Augusta like with great roll out. Rough was mowed down and not overly penal, just unlevel poa that produces iffy lies. Sand traps were the weak link, just okay. Decent quality sand, just needed more of it. Greens were large and challenging. Had a terrible putting day on these greens, had challenges with both the break and the speed. But they were smooth, firm and medium fast. Difficult layout that stretches to over 7300 yards for the real guys. Some nice risk/reward holes and a few absolute brutes... #10 was a 618 yard par 5, then #11 was a 481 yard par 4 and both were considerably longer if playing the tips. Excellent customer service from everyone. No drink cart or on course water stations. Carts had an ice chest, divot mix and GPS. All grass driving range with good Callaway balls included. Highly recommended.

Played this course for the very first time. Absolutely beautiful with the contrast in colors between the rough and the fairways. Check in was easy and the guys in the pro shop were friendly. Balls were already out on the range. Marshall was around and made sure teeing off on the first hole went smoothly. Tee boxes were perfect, fairways were also perfect, greens had some divots but were still running smoothly, medium fast. Sand was excellent, nice and fluffy. There are quite a few restrooms on the course. There’s also a cart girl. GPS on carts is a must if you haven’t played here before. Lots of water!!

Out early on a cool breezy morning. My first time playing this course, so lost a number of shots because of an absence of local knowledge. The fairways were very dry and fast, so a lot of tee shots ran through the fairways into bunkers, or worse. Greens were very firm, so almost impossible to stop any shots, and because these green are well protected with bunkering, it made for a tough day. (If I could hit the ball like the kids from U of A, I'm sure the course would have been more playable.) Greens were not super quick, but are huge, so having 40-50 foot putts was not uncommon. Again, I was unable get the ball to stop, so everything rolled miles away.

Fairways are super wide, and fast, but the course measures long, so it helps to be able to not have to worry bout hitting driver. (At least for me) Enjoyed the round, staff was very accommodating, but my preference for golf courses are for those which are more target oriented and with trees.

Greens were excellent, rolled true at a fast pace, lot more break than appears. Rough was dorman creating a great visual contrast and helping frame the holes. Bunkers were pretty “heavy” but with plenty of sand and consistent from start to finish.

The course is quite interesting with multiple options on several holes. Challenges your course management skills as on many holes the shortest route (or longest drive) may leave you worse off than playing shorter to the correct position. It’s easy to see why University of AZ picked this one as their “home” course and why they have such good teams, the back tees are beastly!

Best value in the area right now, HIGHLY recommended!

A very different type of desert course. This is the home of University of Arizona golf. Bear Down!

The fairways here are huge. Some of the par 5 fairways were bigger than Olympic soccer fields and that is not hyperbole. Sewailo has lot of water and creeks running many of the holes which is rare for desert courses. There is no trouble here as the out of bounds is bare desert. Fairways were great with the standard brown patches. Bunkers were good considering the size and amount of sand needed. Biggest draw back were the greens which were slower than molasses compared to the other high end courses of the area which added a difficult twist. The layout and views are great here. Awesome backdrops of the mountains in the background. The course is on the edge of nowhere so there is a great element of isolation when you play. As well the holes are huge so you never feel any golfers around you. I really enjoyed the greenside creek elements which added a midwest feel to a desert track which was a cool addition. A really fun course to let it fly and have fun with some buddies. I also enjoyed the U of A touches throughout the course which gave it a lot of character. Pleasant desert golf experience all around.

I played this course this past weekend 3 times. Monday morning rate was $39. Sunday's round was part of a small tournament called #TheOven17. Monsoon weather all week, but the course drains really well. Nicest greens in the area, according to many locals. The first time I have seen bentgrass greens in the desert in summer. Greens were pock-marked with many unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. That was unfortunate because it really detracted from the appearance, and if there was a mark in your line it might have an effect on the roll. Other than that, the rest of the course was outstanding. Great layout but some tough holes to deal with (I'm looking at you, Hole 10!). I think the devil himself designed Hole 10, because it was a beast! Overall, there was excellent grass coverage in the fairways and rough. Tees were in great shape: level and few divots to deal with. The sand was plentiful and nice to hit from, even if it was wet. Good service by the beverage cart staff. Also they have a good $6 breakfast burrito. I recommend the chorizo. I had a great experience there Saturday afternoon (I paid $21 riding), golfing by myself (dodging monsoon rain) and finishing 18 holes in just under 2 hours! This was my second under 2-hour round this year! Wonderful, scenic views of the nearby mountains and casino as well as the course itself. Many great water features, some of which will sneak up on you, so use the GPS in the cart. I recommend this course if you are in the area!

Have read many good things about this course (thanks GK) that the drive would be worth it.
Course is in very good shape. Tee boxes are very good with the exception of #18. Fairways are lush with a few thin spots near the edges. The rough is pretty much dead due to the heat. The greens are excellent. Very soft and putted smooth. Good sand in the bunkers also.
Great practice area, large range, chipping area, and practice bunker. Large putting green.
Lots of water stations throughout the course. There is water that comes into play on the course, some you can see and some that sneeks up on you. The players playing the Oven17 in a few weeks are in for a treat. Great customer service.

Played a few weeks ago, this is a newer layout located on the Pascua Yaqui reservation west of Tucson. The course was designed by Notah Begay, not sure if he has done other courses. As such, there is no development around the course and it is set in treeless desert terrain. The course is really not walkable, it is spread out in quite a few areas due to the terrain. Conditions were impeccable and it doesn't appear the course gets a lot of play. It was a very good value, the fee included range balls, bottled water, GPS in carts. The practice areas are excellent as well. One thing to keep in mind playing for the first time is that there is a fair amount of water that is not visible/obvious from some tees and approach shots. The GPS has a flyover feature that you should consult on holes that do have water. There is a lot of bunkering in green complexes and framing tee shots. Bunkers were excellent. Very enjoyable round, pace of play good, conditions excellent, service excellent, try this one out.
