6:55am 3/4 Very playable and similar to my last reviews in January. Big storm last week 3+ inches of rain Thu-Sat. Cart path only and conditions as expected. Some soggy spots some bunkers muddy (but all machine worked) Greens freshly rolled and on the speedy side held well.
One comment on pin placement #6 (short par 4) unfair? Chip shot rolled by 2" high side downhill to 15ft. Putt lipped out spun back to 4 ft. Next putt missed high side stopped behind hole for instant at 3" rolled back past cup to 3 ft. Made that one in the heart. Yikes welcome to the Ridge... Challenging green complexes here for sure. Like 'em.
Bev cart met us on 18th green next group was 5 plus holes back. food / draft selection good in 19th hole.
3.5 hours because we took our time. 37 degree start 47 finish mostly sunny light breeze.

4 of 5 stars for the season is fair.

Dew sweeper, first light tee time(s) 7:00 Am both days. 1 hour frost delay 1/21 only 17 players before 10Am that day so easy going once it warmed up.

Challenging course most all the time in all conditions. These two weeks greens still quick despite not mowing or rolling before dawn. The crew still out there dragging bunkers so they are very good. Pins reset each day sharp edges. If you do not three putt (or 4 like my partner 1/28,) you had a great day putting at The Ridge. (I had 5 three putts in 36 holes)

The staff is great as always. Food and Beverage good too. I am new to posting here but will try to give you good reviews and represent the NorCal courses fairly.

On a beautiful winter day, played The Ridge on Saturday 1/20 with some old college friends. Having two tee times starting at 11:00, we got off pretty much on time. It had rained a couple of days before we played so it was cart path only. Ugh! That was a shame because one guy in our group has bad knees which made it tough for him. It was tough on all of us particularly since we have not played here before. Should have asked for an exception but we didn’t. Regardless, played with a $59 for 2 Golf Moose voucher. Good price for a weekend. No GPS on the carts but no big deal as we all had our own.

This course is in excellent condition. The over seeding has taken hold leaving the fairways lush and green. No bad lies out there. The rough was thick and lush as well and was not hard to get out of. Bunkers were in great shape. Some were a bit damp but still had a soft under lay. Greens were fantastic but tricky. Hard to read and pretty fast, particularly downhill. Breaks were difficult to read and there are false fronts on some of the greens. Pace of play was almost 5 hours but largely attributed to cart path only.

The course sits in the Auburn hills and is very scenic. Beautiful trees, hills and large boulders line the fairways. It is challenging however with some holes having carry over a ravine, stream or rocks. Also there are some elevation changes on your drive off the tee or on your approach to the green. Not a lot of water but it does come into play on #9, a long and difficult par 5 and #10. I loved The Ridge and is on my get back to play soon list!

This course has been on my list for a while now, and I had heard good things. I think it was overhyped, but a good deal for the price. Here's a breakdown:

Tee boxes: Many of them not level. Pretty bad for such a nice course. Played from the combo (tournament) tees, which provided a nice variation.

Fairways: Most annoying part of the round were the over-watered fairways that squished when you walked on them. It wasn't too hot, but it seemed like they were worried the course would dry out. Resulted in many tough lies,and way too squishy approach shots. This pretty much made it seem like playing in the middle of December after a week of rain. Terrible.

Greens: Nice big challenging greens with many undulations. Speed was on the fast side, but pretty consistent. Tons of lip outs though, probably just me, but it seemed we were all having issues with the very subtle breaks right before the hole. Contrary to the fairways, the greens were perfectly watered, not too soft, not baked.

Overall: Don't think I'll go back. Little annoyances from the greens to the fairways kept this course from living up to the hype. I think I was expecting Darkhorse level of quality/ hole variety. I don't think it is quite as good for the same price range. If you have the choice, choose Darkhorse over this one.

I've reviewed this course before, but I like to update people on the conditions in case they are considering this for a round. Course is in great shape right now. Played last weekend and the greens are perfect. It's a great course and the advance rate was $49 with cart on Sunday. Hard to beat that.

I played here on a very hot day and I couldn't deal with heat too well. This could make the course more difficult for everyone. The course was in good shape although the drought has done damage to the fairways. Evidence of brown areas are on many fairways. However, the greens are in very good condition. This is a hilly course with many steep fairways. Many par fours require three shot to reach the greens. Playing this course requires great course management. There are bunkers on the fairways, bunkers around the greens, and lateral hazards everywhere. Plan your shots! Greens are fast and some greens have multiple tiers. It has a great clubhouse and staff at the pro shop are very friendly. Give it a try. This is a good course to play especially they offer summer special for only $31.

Got a Hot Deal time this morning at 7:50AM for $44 with cart. This course is in fantastic shape at the moment. I know that they are supposed to aerate the greens in a couple days, so the greens will be out of commission for a while. Today, everything from tee to green was very lush and a great course layout by RTJ Jr. A must play if in the area!

Was able to squeeze in a second round Saturday (just barely). Booked a 1:00 tee time for $35, which was a fantastic twilight rate for this course. I was hoping to get off a little early for a better chance of finishing, but they were quite busy. Things ran on time and my group teed off a few minutes before 1:00. We waited on most every shot, but never too much. The threesome with me quit after 15 holes because it was getting dark, but I trudged on and joined a threesome ahead of me for the final 3 holes. It was quite dark as we putted out on 18 and we were the last ones out there, but we made it! Total pace around 4:20, so great on a busy afternoon. The course was in really good shape overall. Again, considering it's winter with wild temperature swings in this area, they've done a fantastic job here. Mostly green and lush throughout. Tee boxes good. Fairways probably the best I played on the whole trip with nice fluffy lies. Rough was good overall and cut pretty short, so not penal. Bunkers had great sand. A few were closed off as GUR as they are obviously doing some work, but not a big deal. The greens are the story at The Ridge. They are some of the most difficult I've ever played. They were in pretty nice shape (a little bumpy late in the day) and receptive enough on approaches, but they were crazy fast on putts. There is a lot of slope/undulation here and some steep false edges, too, so anything above the hole or from the side was do or die. You were generally happy to stay on the green in some cases. Another fun course in a beautiful setting. Some people might not enjoy a few of the quirks and the way the greens are currently rolling, but it's one I would certainly want to play again. Most greens here are severely elevated above the fairways and there are some really intimidating approaches because you can't see much of what you are hitting to. Some slopes can be helpful and others harmful, so local knowledge would be a benefit. The carts do have a nice GPS to get accurate yardage/map, but you still can't see all the slopes until you are on the right level. The is an RTJ Jr. course, but parts of it reminded me a lot of the back nine at Bayonet, just a completely different terrain/setting obviously. Not sure why, but it just did. Good overall experience at The Ridge!

This is a great course with a fantastic layout. Sits in the foothills of Northern CA and provides many elevation changes, challenging holes and undulated greens. As for course conditions, right now they a re mediocre. Normally the course is in great shape, but right now it's a little shaggy. Greens are a little bumpy, tee boxes are pretty beat up and shaggy. Fairways were pretty firm as were the greens. I still enjoyed the round and it's very playable. I know they are punching this week so that should solve the green problem. Maybe over the next month they'll fix the tee boxes. Definite play, just wait 4 or 5 weeks.
