Played Saturday, 13-Apr-13 about 10 minutes late due to a fog delay. I would like to nominate Eagle Glen for consistently having the HOTTEST cart girls in SoCal. Seriously hot and great attitudes all...those in the 19th hole weren't bad either. That's about it for the positives.

Sorry to say Eagle Glen has sadly reverted to a quasi dog track The greens had evidence of being punched but were very hard and spotty. The fairways were not in very good shape either. Most disappointing was the sand. The greenside bunker on the long par 5 "lang whang" was concrete. When I tossed the rake in it bounced!

Ah well, they are punching the fairways (and hopefully repunching the greens) this week. I look forward to going back to this great layout in about 4-6 weeks.

Played Sat 9-Feb with an 08:10 time and waited through a 45 min frost delay. The staff were sympathetic/courteous throughout. The service at the 19th hole was excellent as usual. Here you often get to see a few bridal parties checking out the facilities...which brightens up the place nicely.
I agree with Weeman-the course is in overall good condition. Even though it rained (hard) the day before, the traps were in great shape. The only complaint I had was that the fairways were thin at times-nothing too bad. The grounds crew looks like they're doing a good job!

Please keep it up!

Played the Quarry the 19th. The staff, service, and food were excellent as usual. That is the end of the good news.

Three weeks ago OQ was in pristine condition. The fairways now are dried out and the winds are back. The traps had little or no sand! Maybe the wind gusts took it away. We teed off @ 0830 and finished @ 1330...POP was 5 hrs.

Hoping conditions return to what they were during/after the rains...check for wind before you head out! This is normally an outstanding track without the wind...

Played Trilogy Sat Jan 5 with a 40-minute frost delay. We went off of the back (hole 10)which made the great finishing hole (#18) a little less interesting. POP was good @ 4:15.

The staff as usual were polite and helpful. This course remains one of my favorite layouts in Socal.

Unfortunately, it still needs TLC. The greens, traps, and tee boxes were good, but the fairways were largely hardpan with a few bare spots. They urgently need to be punched and some money needs to be spent. The range was on grass. It too has fallen on hard times I'm afraid.

I'm hoping the owners invest in renovation to get this great track back to its former glory by summer.

Played 12-Oct-12 with a 730 tee time. The Good: The service was excellent, food very good, greens were soft, and pace of play around 4 hrs. The bad: Tee boxes were VERY uneven, fairways with huge divots and MANY, MANY bare spots. This course urgently needs care! The range is simply pathetic: worn mats, hitting uphill into a spotty mountain, impossible to get and feel for distance. Not sure what can be done about that...

This course is now off of our rotation...hoping something is done to restore it!

Played Trilogy Saturday 0704 tee time. Went out as a threesome and didn't see anybody until the 16th hole. It was weird that two guys in the foursome in front came back to join us for our approach shots to 18 because "they had a bet" and needed to replay a shot for some reason. They were polite enough, but there was no one behind us and they could have waited. Newsflash: 18 is usually an important hole to most guys and we have our own bets. Not cool to screw up others' games.

Pace of play was right at 4 hours. The layout of this course is one of my favorites, but it is in need of some TLC. Overall condition was good, but most greens and about three fairways need some real work. Not sure what to do about the greens, but some fairways need punching bad.

Above all was the amazing staff-some of the nicest people even to run a golf course. The restaurant staff were also very friendly. All in all a good experience-please give this fine track the care it deserves!!!
Thanks

Continued..The course was in GREAT condition and as always, pace of play was 4 hours even. The service was world class -which is the best in Southern Cal by far! Even the restaurant staff was great. There was only one minor flaw in this otherwise flawless diamond: The friendliest guy there (Jimmy) is a rabid USC homer (both my kids are at UCLA). We can overlook that considering how attentive and helpful the staff always is :) .

This course remains the best value for money in Southern California!

Played 18-Feb Sat 0736-and it was a perfect day for it. A wee bit cold early, but warmed up nicely. THe course was in the best condition I've ever seen. They were hand picking range balls, so we had to cut our practice time-but the front desk was kind enough to comp us when they did open the range. The conditions were amazing-the service outstanding. Pace of play was under 4 hours. The 17 of 18 fairways, the rough, sand traps, and greens were in fantastic shape. The only minor flaws were that a couple of tee boxes were pretty hacked up and the fairway on 10 was mainly hardpan (needs punching).

It is worth metioning again that the service was great. There was a wise, pleasant ranger who kept things moving, the front desk was very helpful and explained the benefits of the Creek Card to me (I'm renewing) and the server and bartender in the 19th hole were very friendly. Final Comment: Tijeras Creek is now tied with the Goose for overall best golf value in SoCal.

My only concern in writing this review is that my favorite course in the area gets overrun. Note to Goose Mgt: Increase your green fees!

We played Sat, 26-Nov-11 under windy conditions (20MPH+). We went out @ 0800 and rarely had to wait to hit-finished @ 1220. The course (as usual) was in excellent condition. Tee box to green there was nothing but great golf course. It has all been said before by so many, but this is by far the best value for money in SoCal. What also bears repeating is a mention of the OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE. From Jimmy (big USC fan) and the humorous starters to the very friendly kitchen/bar staff, you always get treated well at the Goose!

After hearing the promising news about a cucuya grass transition, I took a chance and played Sunday, 13-Nov-11. While I did indeed see some nice fairway grass which may eventually grow in, there are two words to describe Black Gold today: Dog Track. The service was very good-regular cart girl visits, pleasant starter, excellent restaurant service (nice girl with braces).

The fairways were (on average) thin and hacked up badly. At least three sand traps were basic hardpan with only minimal sand. My wedge bounced off a good lie and my ball went thin and long. The tee boxes and greens were in pretty good shape, but for this kind of money you'd think people would fix their divots.

Another positive was pace of play. We teed off around 800 and finished before 1230. One reason might be the unfortunate condition of this challenging track. I really do hope course maintenance mgt invests the time and effort to bring Black Gold back-I was really disappointed.

Westridge: Home of the 6 Hour Round!

Played Friday (at) 12:00 after booking a $39 rate on Click 4 Tee Times. The course was in the best condition I've seen it in for years. At least the first 6 holes were. Can't say about the others because I walked off when we were three foursomes deep on the 7th tee! As I drove to the clubhouse, I saw a group of women hit "approach shots" to the 9th green. One word: pathetic. The rangers who should have pulled these ladies off the course were nowhere to be found. When I went into the front desk and complained of how slow the course was playing, I only got a bored shoulder shrug from the starter...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY HERE!

We played the Goose 20-March-10 after being advised they were not going to punch their greens or fairways this season. If golf were NASCAR, Goose made a wise decision and took the checkered flag while their competition watched from the pits. The course was as usual immaculate. Pace of play on this Saturday (0830 tee time) was 4:15. Even though I had a terrible day putting (my fault, not the the course's) I had a great time. The staff (Jimmy & Co.) were their usual, friendly, helpful selves. One thing that seldom gets mentioned in golf course review is the practice facility-another top notch feature here. There is no better golf course for the money in SoCal-hands down.

Congrats to the greenskeeper & his crew-Please keep up the good work!
