Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!wow. this was an awesome experience. i've never played a course with greens that segue right into a 360º aprons. as fun as it was to try and hold greens and put from 40-60 feet off the green, i was a novice at it and when i was faced with the challenge, my best efforts yielded 3 putts and/or extra chips. a few stray tee shots and i'm left at the end with a very enjoyable day and a 100 on my scorecard. i'm humble enough to embrace the experience for what it was though. like another golfer wrote, if you're not down for this kind of experience, you will get frustrated. i'm a very calm golfer and started getting frustrated after seeing too many 4-8 foot putts that looked straight, break about 2-4 inches. and what made it even more cooler was that it was chilly and windy too.
knowing the subtleties of this course is key and i know next time i can go back and use a bit of what it dealt me last time to score better. play this course if you're into the links-like experience. play this course if you like to be surrounded by the simi valley hills. play this course if you like great greens fees and excellent conditions.

played here on wednesday, february 24th.
i haven't played hansen in at least a couple of years and it played the same as it did then.
this is a decent;y cared for l.a. muni. the greens were rolling well. the fairways were for the most part alright with patches of bare spots and lumps among the other areas of plush kikuya.
tee boxes and traps were ok. pace of play was awesome. we were done in 4 hours
all in all i'd give it a 6.

once again, 3 years later, i had the pleasure of playing escena.
this course really is impeccable. the new club house is stunning and has the perfect aesthetic
consistency with the palm springs area.
as well, i had the pleasure of sharing the experience this time with my dad. we laughed on the first fairway when he sarcastically remarked, "are we playing everything down?" there is not a bad lye on this course. even in the rough, the grass is so dense, the ball stands up.
golfnow.com offers good discounts but the course is actually pretty cheap already for a P.S. course.
please play this course if you haven't. it's so worth it.

overall, i liked the layout and the pace. i played my round, with a foursome in about 4:40 minutes. considering the course was moderately crowded, under 5 hours isn't bad. the course rolls with the base of a mountainside, right off the 57 freeway. there are 2 - 3 moments of good climbing but this is definitely a good walker's course.
one recommendation would be to level the practice greens in a few areas for better practice. naturally that's work but worth it. a lot of the green surface just gets overtaken by the gravity of it's placement on the hillside. there really is no "flat" or "non-breaking" areas.
the condition, save the aeration(gotta be done), is standard for SoCal Muni. kikuyu fairways and rough with minor overseeding. tees are mostly kikuyu also. greens-poa anna.
i would give the overall rating for the course as a 6. it was totally playable. i always keep in mind what i'm getting when i play a muni out here. this one is a nice walk.
enjoy

played the sunset round for $86.
barely anyone on the course so i was able to bang out the 18 in just about 2.5 hours.
the last 3 holes were getting dark but thank the Lord i have good eyesight.
the course is a great course. the layout is fantastic. the conditions are plush. and the pace
of play was obviously smooth and fast.
gps on the carts is a great thing.
greens are poa anna but even in the evening, they were running smooth and kind of quick at about a 9.5. well done to the superintendent and the crew for maintaining a great layout for mr. trump.
all employees were kind and helpful as well.
definitely need a thick wallet if you play during prime hours but if you have the dough, it's worth the play.

my friend and i call this the glorified driving range. it is a very wide open and
relatively easy course to navigate through. but it does have length. playing from the blue
tees, this straight shooter with a few dog legs clocks in at almost 7000 yards.
conditions are definitely not the best but it's a muni.
it's nice if you want to walk but can't deal with the hills of some of the other public courses.
it's nice if you have someone new to the game and you need an easy course to take them to.
it's nice if you don't like the saturation of play like rancho, encino, wilson and harding get.

this is a total practice/bring a beginner here/glorified driving range type course.
it has a few good holes(4, 12 from back tee, 13) for better golfers but for the most part, i'm embarrassed if i don't shoot in the 70's here. i actually shot a 79 this morning and new i left at least 4 STUPID shots out there.
it does have the challenge of length though. 6800 yds.
i give this course, including it's mediocre conditions, a 5.

overall, the o.c municipals are in better shape than the l.a. county.
my home course is angeles national but i really do like playing
as many muni's as i can get to, at least once.
los lagos totally proved to be in better shape than the l.a. courses
and the rolling nature of the course made it an enjoyable experience.
conditions were pretty good. i'd rate the course right around an all-around
6. tees are a bit bumpy and too fluffy with kikuya. fairways aren't bad and greens were occasionally bumpy but not bad. not many ball marks.
i would definitely play los lagos again. any teenagers coming up. this is a good challenge. the shorter course looks like it would give a decent challenge for younger players also.

excellent!
tees were all level and nice.
fairways were all nice.
rough was nice. not too penal-2"
greens were nice. pretty good roll. not too fast but not bad; maybe 8 or 9
ball marks were minimum.
over all:
the staff was nice, the course was in excellent shape from tee to green
they allow you to walk also so i enjoyed that also. it's definitely a walkable course.
play this course if you haven't. i highly recommend it more for
low to mid handicappers. it's not a killer but definitely gives a consistent challenge. it's a thought provoking course.
anyone who is an 18+ should know they will be challenged.
enjoy

still lovin' this beauty.
this is my home course since june and have now broken 80 4 times.
that still doesn't change the fact that it is impossible to avoid the nature.
conditions are awesome.
tees are doing fine
fairways are doing fine - some browning but no bare spots.
rough can still come up a bit. i'd love to see all rough at 3"
some clumpy areas but hey, it's the rough. pay the price for a bad shot.
inspire yourself to learn how to hit on clumpy areas. the pros have to do it
greens are rolling out well. in reference to the lack of hardness comments, the course is maturing now so the base is settled and not so new and hard like it was in it's first few years. if they wanted the greens to be a good 11 or 12 stimp, they'd have to dry them out which is not good for people who drag their feet as well as the maintanence neglect to do so would ruin them. believe me when i say, that it is good the greens are more receptive. bent grass is great putting grass but requires a lot of care. because this course, as difficult as it is, brings out some really bad golfers, it's better the greens are maintained for more managable conditions over challenging conditions.
for the price, you can't get a better round.
the clubhouse is in production too and should be done by next spring/summer. looking forward to a post round beer on the patio.
cheers

i agree that this course is awesome. i played here back in april and was
totally into the contrasting design of the 2 nines. the conditions were really good too.
i think any golfer should know that a golf course is designed and built BUT is still 100% natural and totally vunerable to nature's way.
this means, even with a great maintenance staff, things can still go wrong.
i look forward to playing this course again. glad to see some updates so i know to give the crew the time it needs to make it right again.

played on 5/24.
i do love this course. i've seen it in better aesthetic condition but it was
still in excellent playing condition.
aesthetically, the greens had some turf issues but they still rolled true and smooth.
tees were fine.
fairways needed a haircut but the mower was out there
so i'm sure it's all good.
rough in my opionion should be higher. there isn't much of it do to
the natural areas really being the "non-fairway" element of this course.
and having the rough at 3" might just slow balls down just enough to keep them from going into the natural areas all the time.
in all, the course is great and a challenge for me. i'm dying to break 80 here.
if you are anything above a 15 handicap, PLEASE play from the whites.
