Wife and I played 3/17 at 11:30 a.m. ; big mistake. pace of play very slow; course not in really good shape. quit after 15 holes when we reached our four hour time limit; remember when 18 holes used to take four hours. When we went to the 16th there were two groups waiting. Went by the 18th green on the way out and nobody was on the hole.

Had a single join my wife and I on the second hole. Hit 300 yards drives but they were all over the course. Hit one more bomb onto the other fairway on the 13th hole and then drove away.

Had a another single join us the fourth hole. He quit after about his fourth beer which was at the 14th hole.

Anyway, I guess if you are first off in the morning you are OK but forget about the rest of the day.

Good a good deal on Golf Now but I am thinking that when I have to be in the area I will just break down and pay more to play Goose Creek or a course of that quality.

Starter was very nice and so was the course marshal but I won't be going back again.

31 degrees ! That's right, thirty one degrees when we teed off at 6:15am. Now that's cold ! Frost - everywhere, but no restrictions ??? For those of you who have not played in those temperatures, let me tell you that the ball goes nowhere, not to mention how tough it is to get loose. Bottom line : difficult to score.

The course drained exceptionally well from all the recent rains, but still many areas of thin/muddy lies. (Actually the mud was frozen) The only damage I could see was made from allowing carts out in those conditions. Come on people, you can not drive up muddy slopes and expect not to destroy the grass.

The greens were very good, considering they were frozen, but that did not prevent maintenance from mowing them? Bunkers were almost all just bare dirt or at best very thin sand. Fairways and tee boxes were OK, rough, not so good.

I really enjoy this course. The scenery is fantastic, great views, interesting fun holes which are all different. Not just typical back & forth holes like some courses. The best part is you get all these wonderful features for $15.75 as a senior. What a deal !

Played on 12-15, Saturday, 8:15 tee time. Our 4-some wasn't the fastest, and we eventually fell behind the twosome in front of us. Finished in a leisurely 5:10, without anyone pushing us after 3-4 holes. I appreciate the repaved cart paths, and the fairways were a solid 7 out of 10; not plush but not bare or too scruffy. Greens were on the slow side but pretty smooth, although downhill putts were still tough. I wasn't in the sand but looked fine. The tee boxes were generally fine but for a few that were not very flat. Solid customer service.

Played today in 3 H. They have redone all the cart paths (great). And they were working on leveling some of the tees today. Nice to see, that this old style course is getting some attention from the County. Long overdue. As they had just aerated at the beginning of the month, the greens were very wet, soft and bumpy, leaving foot prints and plugs (just like the previous reviews from Sept). So chipping/putting were a challenge. Tee markers were all placed at the front of the tees (that's OK, just means longer drives - LOL). No issues with any fairways, as they had roll and good lies, all round. Bunkers were wet from overnight watering. Rough was tall and deep outside of the fairways. Customer service excellent at all levels. I have always liked this course, with its variety of holes (especially the par 3's) and hope that work continues to make improvements going forward. Play it if you get the chance. Beautiful setting and especially at dawn. And the number of deer on the course, are fun to watch.

Played Tues Sept 18th at 707. I used my LA Senior card for the second time. Check in quick. I haven't been here for 2 years and forgot most of the holes. The scenery is great, in the hills and deer all over the place, 9 on the first hole alone. POP was not good at 445, we were following a 2 some and they clearly were in no hurry and thought they hit the ball farther than they did. We played the blues at 6145 yards, this made the par 5's 475 plus but made the par 3's a little long. The entire course slopes away from the mountain, fairways, and greens. Many of the holes are a bit tight to drive and a few of the greens had larger slopes than expected. Today the greens were just plain flooded. You left big foot print impressions just walking on them and our 3 some had 6 balls actually plug (half the ball down ) on the greens. Maybe they were getting ready to aerate. I don't know when the new concrete cart paths were put in, but they were very nice and welcome. Because of the scenery and a few challenging holes i would not mind coming back here soon.

Second group off at 6:15am. Our threesome behind a twosome, so no issues with pace of play until we caught a "back-nine" twosome on #16. Still able to finish in just a tick over three hours. The greens were so wet and soft, EVERYONE, including my bride was able to back up shots! The greens were so wet, it was a real challenge chipping because it was hard to determine if the ball would bite or release. We even left foot prints on the greens and none of us are particularly big people. Fairways were for the most part good, but there were numerous bare areas. Bunkers were OK, but soaked from the over watering. Really enjoy Marshall Canyon. While not the most difficult course, the holes are interesting, and not redundant. Plus the greens are such fun to putt. The abundance of wildlife and great views is just a bonus and for $15.75, a fantastic value !

Played 7-31 0n a warm humid morning.
They are in the process of redoing the cart paths and due to that they have turned off some of the irrigation especially on the back nine. This makes for some dry spots in the fairways and a couple of greens had large burned out areas.
Overall the course has held up well in the recent heat we have been experiencing.
Some of the tee boxes were bumpy and you had to search for a level spot.
The fairways were mostly good but there are some dry spots to contend with.
The rough was juicy in most places and the ball sat down and it took some work to get out.
The greens were mostly on the slow side due to not being able to cut them down because of the heat.
I was in two bunkers and the sand was thin but playable. A lot of work going in some of the bunkers. Edges being cut back and cleaned up.
The pace was ok at 3:25 but it could have been better but for a slow threesome I ran into on the last 5 holes.
This is just the third time I've played here and I enjoy the layout. No water to deal with but several tee shots require a carry over dry creek beds/canyons. Couple of sever dog legs that require less than driver and good placement to have an approach shot to the green.Lots of large trees that can block your shots if you get off line.Always nice to see the deer wandering around.
Overall an enjoyable morning round especially with the L.A. county senior card at $28

Had a chance to play my home course yesterday with my brother. It had been awhile since playing MC. Pace started off slow and then got slower due to some young pot heads up two groups ahead that slowed the whole thing to a grinding halt. We finally had to call the club house to get them moving, but that didn't help much. We finally got to pass them on hole 11 after finding them lounging under a tree like many of the deer on the course on a hot afternoon. At the risk of sounding like a total GOM "Grumpy Old Man", I wish they would not allow golfers to listen to loud music from their speakers while on the course. I've noticed it more and more lately on various courses. It's annoying. Anyone else care to comment on that? Anyway, nice to see Marshall Canyon working on the cart paths. That is a long time coming. The greens were the best I've seen here in awhile and the fairways are not bad at all. The rough could use some TLC but that's why it's called rough. Nice day all in all. Love the serenity of the course and friendly service as always. One more thing, smoke all the weed you want, but for gosh sake, keep it moving and turn down that darn music and listen to the birds. LOL

Played 5-4 as a single using the L.A. County senior card. $28.75 w/cart. Teed off around 7:30 and finished in 3 1/2 hours. I played through a couple of groups and waited a little on the last 3 holes.

Played 5-4 as a single using the L.A. County senior card. $28.75 w/cart. Teed off around 7:30 and finished in 3 1/2 hours. I played through a couple of groups and waited a little on the last 3 holes.
This course is a little rough around the edges but for the cost I enjoyed the layout and I will return. The cart paths need a lot of TLC. Most were dirt and very bumpy. Where there was asphalt,that was pretty torn up also.
Tee boxes were ok with some damage but acceptable.
The fairways had good coverage but were a mixture of weeds and various different grasses. There were a few thin/brown spots but I never had a bad lie. I was not in any bunkers but they looked firm.
The greens on the front nine were soft and fluffy but when I got to number nine they were being cut and the back nine was much better. They all rolled good but the back was much quicker. Very few old ball marks to deal with.
The guy at check in was quick and friendly. Did not see the cart or a marshal. The maintenance guys were very good about getting out of the way and turning off the machines so not to bother you.
