The gentleman from Palos Verdes is correct. I could not see the ocean from the many high points of this golf course. I only saw the greater Pomona valley and the San Gabriel mountains
including Baldy and Cucamonga peaks. Very boring on a great fall day. I like playing most of the county courses on the eastern border of LA county. That's made all the better when I only pay $16.50 weekday rate to WALK this course!

I played here for the first time as part of the county team event. Let me start by saying I was pleasantly surprised. I was worried that a county course in Pomona would be dry and burnt. Add to that the stories I read about the severe slopes and tight course, I worried.

I arrived and checked in. The guy at in the proshop was nice and not too busy for an 8:24 tee time. The range was mats only but had plenty of targets and good distances. The mats were in decent shape. There was not chipping green but they allow chipping to their putting green. The putting green was large and matched the speed and conditions of the course.

The course has a great combination of holes all with something interesting. Some have hard doglegs, others a stream across the fairway, tight tee shots or significant elevation changes. Lots of challenge without being impossible for average players
The tee boxes had good coverage with a bit of divot damage on the par 3s. However, they were often very uneven. My partner jokes that even the tee shots had to be corrected for uphill lies.

I didn't have a bad lie in the fairway all day. They were full and tight.

The rough was hit an miss. Some was lush but short but there were bare patches and some very deep spots. I liked I that it was long enough that you had to think about it.

I was in 2 traps and both had good thick sand that is rare for a county course.

Lastly the greens. They were full with minimal pitch marks. They ran fast and were undulating. Nothing silly but you had to think and respect a downhill putt. Plenty of slope so even a 4' putt needed respect. They held a good line and were mostly smooth. I did see some bouncing on the longer putts.

The only complaint I had was that they had a "computer issue" with reservations so they forced out several groups in front of our tournament. Our 8:24 time didn't get off until almost 9 then the 2-some in front of us hit 2 balls off the first tee. On top of that we didn't see a marshal all day. The beverage cart did come around 3 times which was nice on such a hot day.

I will be back. I would rate this as better conditions than Los Verdes right now with a comprable layout but lacking the view and cool ocean breeze.

We had a 6:07 tee time, (first off) however there was nobody to co-ordinate so people were all trying to tee off first. Bare in mind it was still really dark at 6am. In any event we tee'd off in the dark and moving along fine, until the marshal approached us while we on the 7th green and advised us that we should slow down because they have an 8 o'clock shotgun starting on #10. We finished at 7:25, and they held us back until the shotgun teed off on 10 (It was 8:12 when we got restarted) Then it took about 2 1/2 hours to play the back nine. What a joke!

The course however was in some of the best conditions I have seen it. The greens were excellent. They rolled true, very receptive, and reasonable speed. Fairways were for the most part good, and the greenside bunkers had plenty of sand.

I like the course, beautiful weather, just a little disappointed I was no advised of the shotgun when I made the tee time.

Had a 7:30 tee time on Saturday morning trying to beat the heat. Course is very green and has handled the heat well. Check in was smooth and the first tee was quite crazy. The starter on the first tee did a good job of keeping things orderly, they allow fivesomes out and the first three holes were brutal but after that the course moved well with POP right at 4 1/2 hours. Few of the tee boxes were unlevel, fairways and rough had good coverage. Greens had good coverage with some fresh divots and poorly repaired ball marks. Surfaces were a little bumpy and had a couple putts knocked offline.
Really like the layout and #13 is one of the best par three's around.

Played Mountain Meadows with Vince aka Stickboy this morning. The course was in great condition right now with fairways and greens looking very nice. We originally started out as a twosome but was then paired with a young man by the name of Jack, who turns out was 17 years old and visiting from Phoenix. Turns out that Jack is an extremely talented player and shot a nifty 67 from the back tees. He was telling Vince and I about his dad who use to caddie for Brandle Chamblee and a few others. The young man was very polite and the three of us had a great time. If you are in the area, the course is very challenging,(greens are faster than they look) and a great test of golf even for Jack..

Played an afternoon round with Nickesquire on Monday 6/13, without a reservation. We were able to play as a twosome, walking and playing from the blue tees (6440 yards/70.4 course rating/131 slope rating). This hilly course is somewhat challenging to walk, especially as the second round of the day. Pace of play was good, with no waiting, and we finished just under 4 hours - pleasantly surprising. This was just my second time playing on this Ted Robinson, Sr. designed course. Lots of elevation changes, fairway bunkers, sloping fairways, mature trees and elevated greens to contend with. Overall, conditions were fairly good. Tee boxes were generally level, with lush turf. Good teeing ground was easy to find. Some minor divot damage noted on par-3 boxes, but mostly maintained. Each of the par-3 tee boxes had a container of sand to fill divots. Fairways were mostly lush, with some thin spots noted. There were also a few areas of muddy ground, especially at the base of slopes. Rough was playable, thicker in some places than others, with good coverage. Under the many trees that play a big part in defending this course, rough tended to be a little thinner. Bunkers were visually appealing, with the clean white sand contrasting nicely with the green fairways, greens and rough. Depth of the sand was good, such that the typical play was a blast shot. There were ample rakes placed around the margins of each bunker, and all were maintained. Greens were good, but could have been better, if not for the recent aeration of 12 of the 18. The small gage holes were more of a visual hindrance than anything. Given a few weeks to heal, these greens should be in fine shape for the start of summer. All greens held well hit shots, and were in between soft and firm. Putts rolled true at medium to medium/fast speeds. Putts from above the hole were difficult to get close. One issue of note was the poor condition of collars around several greens - thin coverage, to bare dirt - still a problem as mentioned in previous reviews. With the elevation changes, blind shots, ample bunkers and mature trees, this course provides a good challenge. Recommended.

Walked the Blues (6440/71.0/128) with Hermgolfs in 3H, 50M. The weather was in the 70's, partly cloudy and breezy. We paid their standard $29 midday walking rate, which was a little high IMO, especially since they had done maintenance on the greens same day. Older, traditional Ted Robinson design, my 1st time here. Really enjoyed the hilly, tree lined layout. You need to be able to shape shots both ways as there are numerous holes that bend to the left or the right. Many blind or semi blind shots over hills where you need to know the course to get the ball to end up in the correct location. The tees were the worst part of the course. At best average, many needed divot repair and several had large bare areas. The fairways were generally decent, with good coverage. A few browned out areas here and there. The rough was medium length, tough to get good club on the ball. Good coverage overall, but thinner and more sporadic the farther you were from the fairways. That plus the many mature trees made keeping it in the short grass a premium here. The sand traps had been recently refurbished. Very nice with plentiful, thick sand. They were punitive, just deep enough that your ball often sat down in it's divot. We were advised that they had punched " a few problem areas on some greens with small holes, no sanding" when I inquired with the Pro Shop beforehand. It turns out that they had punched a dozen entire greens with small tines. That was disappointing. The 2/3 of the greens that were punched were still medium fast but were firm & bumpy. The 1/3 of the greens that were unpunched were medium fast bordering on fast, relatively smooth and held well struck irons well. Something unusual for a course that had greens that were obviously well above average "but for" today's punching was that the aprons were very poor. Numerous bare areas, some recently resodded areas, very inconsistent. We were lucky to be sandwiched in between two 2somes, so our POP was excellent, we did not wait after our tee shots on #1. However, we saw some of the standard American Golf 5somes out on the course, so there were pockets on the other 9 where the play was backed up. Customer Service was good overall, I waited around for traffic to thin out afterward and had a drink & snack in the restaurant, okay but a little pricey for what you got. I really liked the layout, it's a longer, better version of Los Robles near my home. Some tight holes mixed in with others that have very generous landing areas. Nice views of the surrounding area and Pomona drag strip. One of the better hilly courses I have played in awhile, definitely recommended.

Played here with my monthly club at 9am on Saturday morning, 5/21/16, on a day that started cool but got sunny and warm with occasional blustery breezes – great golf weather. I generally stay away because MM is always slow on weekends (today’s pace was 5.5 hrs), but the course is in pretty good condition right now. Greens are excellent – medium-fast and gaining speed as the day progressed, fairly firm but generally holding good shots, smooth and semi-lush, not too many unrepaired ballmarks. And watch out for the downslope runouts – they will surprise you! Only complaints was the greens’ collars - they looked like they had all been recently resodded, but then the course apparently decided not to water these areas, and they are dry and semi-bare, and putting or chipping through the collars can cause the ball to jump around unpredictably. Fairways were firm with scattered bare spots but lies were generally OK. Rough was mostly cut short but was very dry, and thinner spots could be bare. Tees were level and in pretty good shape. Sand in most bunkers was in great condition – plenty of playing depth, good consistency, mostly raked. Abnormally, a playing companion reported that the right fairway bunker on #16 was basically hardpan. Many unfilled divots everywhere, especially in fairways and rough in common landing zones. No sand bottle refills available except (sometimes empty) containers on par 3s. We flagged down a worker on #11 who kindly brought us 2 more bottles (which we could have emptied on one hole!). Lively bar/restaurant on-site afterward with OK (but not very hot) food. Good conditions, but watch out for the slow pace.

Ok, my true feelings- I'm loving this course, especially the back 9, I want to tell you it is in poor shape to keep you away so it won't get beat up, but can't do that. Seems like those who typically tear the course up (don't fix divots, don't fix pitch marks on greens) are either not showing up (HOORAY) or because the course is looking better maybe feel guilty and are actually being courteous (even better!). After the recent rains it's in nice shape, a couple of tee boxes are funky, but overall pretty nice. No issues with aeration- greens are healed. I'm also liking the positive attitude from the staff there, too- nice people!
