Got out early this AM and played in nice POP of 3 hours. Play early as the course was jammed when we finished. Course is in very nice shape. Very green and lush. Tee boxes are clean/level. Bunkers are filled with nice playable sand. Fairways are cut/clean and providing very good lies throughout. Rough is filling in around the fairways and though not high, it will make shots difficult. Greens were mowed, clean, holding shots, chipping well and putting great (do not be above the hole). Customer services was great at all levels (though I wish they opened the restaurant early? Like 5:30)

Surprised after reading recent reviews. Good / above average LA city muni conditions. 3.45hr pace starting midday Tuesday. Soft, fluffy sand in traps. Greens are good. Pro shop well stocked. Good staff. Some interesting holes and nice views. No complaints. Tasty hot dog at turn. Keep expectations low and you will be pleasantly surprised. recommend.

Played on Sunday 2-21-2016 with my golf club. I knew it would be a long round as first group went out at 1040. Its very green, but the fairways are bumpy with clumps of grass dotted around bare spots or dead spots, and players just leave their crater sized divots without filling with sand. Tee boxes were uneven and you had to hunt for spot to place your tee. Greens were great, firm and fast, which made for some tough downhill and slider putts. Bunkers are fluffy with white fluff sand which I had some problems getting out as I am used to the IE hardpan bunkers. Customer service was great and it was very nice when a pretty girl from the bar came out to the range with trays of ice water filled cups for us golfers. It was just a long day which is what you get with a county course on a weekend.

Played Mountain Meadows on 1/23 with a 7:00 tee time. Before I go into the conditions and course design, let's start by saying this is a Muni course, so please, temper your expectations. That being said, I have no clue how this course is rated a 6+ on GK's ratings. Let's start with the facilities. The range is OK, it was mats only when I played so that was a bit of a drag. The putting green is actually in worse condition than the greens on the course. Service was quite good, staff was friendly and mostly competent. Carts are very basic and do not have GPS. The overall conditions are poor. Fairways are spotty with serious bare spots and divots and the "rough" is even worse. I had numerous bad lies after good drives and found myself actually hoping to end up in fairway bunkers because I knew i'd get a decent lie there. The bunkers are very good, it looks like they have fresh sand in them and are very consistent. The greens are above average. They are fast and smooth, but really, really firm. For a muni, it's not awful, but don't be fooled, you'll get terrible lies all day. The routing and course design is very tight. The course was built into the mountain and many of the holes seem "forced" into small spaces, resulting in almost unfair slopes and angles. If you cannot work the ball right to left AND left to right you'll be in for a long day. The course is really short, 6400 from the tips, so you rarely need a driver and actually I'd recommend you leave it in the bag and hit something that will find the fairway. Overall Mountian Meadow's is a poorly maintained course with some funky routing. The good news is it's priced comfortably (paid $38 on a Sat morning) so I never felt like I was going to get Augusta-like conditions. Just don't get fooled by the GK rating this course is NOT in above average condition.

Early morning tee time, easy check in and organized first tee. Winter shape with the fairways and rough. Traps have fluffy sand and were in great shape. Tee boxes flat and have good coverage. Greens were smooth and had some good speed, problem was with unfixed ball marks. We were one of the first groups out and every green had so many divots it was a joke. New 19th hole which was very busy. If you get out early a good play.

This review is more complicated for me than usual for several reasons: first time here, the day we chose to play, and how it played out. My buddy and I got an 11:37 tee time on Thursday, 12/31, paired with a local twosome. I'm slowly figuring out that, with a lot of people off for/between the holidays, courses are more crowded. There were carts stacked up at the first tee, and we got off somewhere around 20-25 minutes late. On a normal day we probably had plenty of time for our round, so no problem — right? Until it took us over an hour to finish the first three holes with the front nine taking close to 3.75 hours. On the par-three 6th hole, we let the group behind hit up so by the time we set off again there was space and no waiting though the ninth — fostering a sense of optimism to finish 18 before dark that was crushed upon seeing the delay at the 10th tee. Our local twosome made the wise suggestion to repeat the now-open front nine with them, and so we did — finishing it in about 1.5 hours. So the conditions report is based on never having seen the back nine. For this time of year, I had no complaints about the conditions. Tee boxes were generally good and level with coverage. Fairways were thin, dry, lots of rollout but pretty consistent with decent lies and very playable. Rough varied and while usually short, frequently offered some cushion if you didn't get into the brush or a dirt stretch. They are upgrading the bunkers and they had very nice newer sand in most of them. Some had about a four-foot band of dirt outside the bunker rim where they they had yet to finish off the reconstruction (obviously played as GUR). I thought the greens were fun and challenging — clean surfaces that ran pretty true, but very quick. You had to pay attention accordingly and have good touch to keep from going well past the hole sometimes. But with the right touch it was usually possible to leave it close and I think that is fair and fun. So if you like this course, I would say that it's in pretty good shape, with the understanding it's winter conditions. As far as my opinion of the layout (nine holes I saw), there were several holes that I felt punished really good shots and offered only very tight solutions at best. For example, holes that doglegged one way but sloped hard the other. After two rounds of the same nine, I confess that I'm not in a hurry to return. Which is unfortunate, because there are a lot of pluses here. It's a nice facility and while a little overwhelmed on the day, the staff was working hard to keep up. Because of where the course is perched, there were some fantastic views of the San Gabriel mountains and surrounding area. It's a visually interesting and frequently challenging layout that requires local knowledge — no back and forth parallel fairway stuff here. It was really helpful having locals playing with us. Critically speaking, I don't think it's necessarily a good design, but it is challenging and interesting in that way. On occasion, I like the golf equivalent of S&M that is DeBell, so I can see that at some point I will eventually return here — a place that is longer, generally wider, and not so consistently severe. I'll try to finesse the front nine and finally see what the back nine looks like.

Played November 22 with a buddy of mine. Teed off at 11:30 a.m. No one in front of us until the 7th hole, when we caught up with a threesome (who was backed up behind a few foursomes). Since course allows fivesomes, and we were backed up anyways, we ended up joining up into one group. Had a blast playing with this group. Finished in about 5 hours, including a half hour break at the turn (which is not bad for Mountain Meadows on a weekend).

Staff was wonderful as always. Practice facilities were great, even though the range is hitting off of mats.

Course was actually in great shape compared to what it has been in the past. Tee boxes were pretty level. Actual sand in the sand traps! Only some brown spots on the fairways. Greens were fast but did hold shots. Even most of the ball marks on the greens were repaired (shocking, I know!).

All in all, was impressed with Mountain Meadows and will definitely come back to play soon.

We played Mountain Meadows on Saturday morning, 10/24/15. There's one thing I can say about American Golf, they never saw a fivesome that they didn't like. Almost every group was a fivesome and we got "paired" with three other players as well. The starter tried to tell me that the problem isn't that there are fivesomes, but that the players all play too slow. I had to suggest that we agree to disagree on that point. Our pace of play was about 5-1/2 hours.

Regarding course conditions, the greens were very nice, holding shots well and not too beat up with ball marks, although I didn't have any trouble fixing at least 3 or 4 on every green. Speed was medium fast. To the course's credit, they are doing quite a bit of bunker renovation and replacing the sand with that nice, fluffy white sand. The fairways are still healing from being punched, very large divot-sized punches. The tee boxes were quite shaggy, not to the point of having a large effect, but it seemed like maybe they hadn't been mowed very recently. There was a drink cart and she came by often enough, but she didn't really have much of a supply on the cart, other than plenty of beer. Unfortunately, we weren't drinking beer.

Overall, it was "fine", but nothing really positive to shout about, and nothing really all that terrible.

I was able to make a single tee time by phone at Mt. Meadows in Pomona on a Friday, 7AM. A bit late off the first tee but no biggie. PoP 4hrs walking, $29 fee, 5-some. Course very green, surprisingly, with semi lush fairways AND rough. Greens looked fantastic and we got some great rolls, but some balls went a bit off line at times due to spike marks and general unevenness. In a word: inconsistent ... speedy for the most part just some slower sections that you need to look for. Ventured into one or two bunkers, playable but crusty and firm on the bottom. I saw a few flyers from my playing partners. Of all the LA county courses I've played (LV, L-Wood, LA, SA, Chester, D-Bar) I prefer MM the best. Very hilly layout, some narrow and challenging holes although not very long, scenic, and they seem to keep the place in very good condition except during the winter if it's rainy. They have a (crab) grass range. Currently remodeling the restaurant. Good to see our tax dollars at work. I'd play here more often if not for the drive. Recommended, especially for 29 bone.
