Played as a twosome on 5/23. All was quiet and we were able to tee off early (7am). For those that don't know, they close the range every wednesday AM. They had just verti-cut the greens this morning, so it was not rolling as fast. The fairways also was cut pretty tight and not as lush as I expected. There were lots of divots mark in the fairways. Seems like the course has gotten a lot of play as of late. The rough was not terribly long. The sand packed more than I would have liked.
All in all, a decent round. Hardly anyone on the course and we were able to finish in around 3hrs as a twosome. At this point, I would probably give the course a couple more weeks and it should be back into pristine conditions.
At this point, I think the Champions course at the Morongo course is a better play. Just my two cents.

Played at 7:30AM on a warm sunny Saturday morning 5/19/12, #2 in our long golf weekend. Always look forward to OV and wasn’t disappointed, as the course was in great shape. Brief moment of panic – arrived at the first green to find it punched with small holes – WTF??!! No notice from the pro shop before we went off – is this going to be a busted day?? But that was the only hole like that – all the other greens were primo, and were rolling pretty fast.

With the Canadian tour qualifying only last week, I expected the greens to be overly firm, but while firm they were receptive and held shots. We had good lies in the fairways everywhere, the rough was not too tough, and the bunkers I was in were in good shape. The tee area on number 10 (white) was not level at all, and in general the par 3 tees were in need of leveling and TLC. Got out behind a very slow group apparently playing for big money and took almost 5 hours – disappointing. I don’t think we saw a marshal all day – was told he came on at 9AM (why so late? Early slow players affect the course the entire day!!)

Pro shop staff OK, good food at the grill but service took a long time. Barely adequate bathrooms on the course. I’d like to see the interior open areas a little better maintained and this course would be a real visual jewel. Highly recommended – too bad it’s so far away from OC!

Played 5/18 in mid-morning. It has been years since I played here and the course was even better than I remembered. The course conditions were very good, with lush fairways and fairly thick rough. The sand traps were not the best with inconsistent conditions. The greens were slower than last time I played here but they were still decently fast. The tee boxes were okay with some bare/chewed up areas. The service was great. We started out behind two elderly couples and the marshal had them let us play through on the second hole. We played the front in less than two hours but hit another group we did not get through on the eighth hole and the back nine played longer. Still less than 4.5 hours. Overall a great experience. A fun, challenging layout with great conditions.

What a perfect day to play golf. The course was in wonderful condition, with the possible exception of some overwatering in the greenside bunkers. Everything about the course was first class! The staff was great, very accommodating. Wish this course were closer to my home because I would play here a whole lot more often!

Played here 5/5 saturday morning at 8:30am. It was just me and my buddy and the 4-some in front of us were pretty fast. i think we finished the round in 4 hours. There were lot of guys out there playing the practice round for the canadian tour Q school. I was excited to play this course 3 days before the Q school event thinking that the course is going to be in tournament condition. oh man, i was wrong. i realize they don't make it into a tournament condition until they close the course a day before. I think it was worse than their usual condition. it's probably so that they can grow everything out to make it easier to bring everything to tournament condition. I had few super high drive b/c the grass were too high on the tee box forcing you to tee up higher than usual. Greens were slower than usual probably b/c they didn't cut them short. i'm thinking they are waiting until the day before the tourney to cut them really short.
The conditions weren't horrible. I think i just had a wrong expectation. I think the Q school ends on Thursday so may be Friday's condition will be awesome?
Now i know, it's probably better to go after the tourney than before if you want to take advantage of tourney conditions...

4/30/12: Played a practice round,was not there to keep score. My goal was to chart the greens,see how the contours react, confirm safe yardages using the Professional Yardage book and hit approach shots between 180 yards down to about 40 yards.

There was hardly ANYBODY out on the course! In the next few days, Professionals looking to earn a Canadian tour card will be arriving for the event. This course will be closed for play on May 6th I believe thru May 11th.

Greens: VERY SLOW...but rolled true, no bumpiness and have healed perfectly since being aerated the last week of March.
Very undulating greens, many different kind of breaks
(Bring me along to help you read them HA!)

I MUST have fixed several ball marks on each & every green! The greens are soft,you can use your thumb to push back & tap down. ALL it takes is a few seconds,MEANWHILE players spend minutes debating which club to hit,yet won't TAKE a few seconds to fix or repair "THEIR" ball marks!

Some people may have NOT noticed but I did, the width of the greens have been made smaller by as much as a foot around the green. RED dots were placed by the staff and have since grown over. Doing this makes it a tougher target area for the upcoming Q-School.

Rough: 1 - 2 1/2" very consistent conditions. I don't believe the rough will get any thicker for Q-school.

Fairways: very defined with a first cut then you have the rough mentioned above. Very good conditions, fairways are soft not much roll right now. Did not see many un-repaired divots.

Bunkers: are very playable, not fluffy sand more a granular type dirt.

Tee Boxes: Almost immaculate conditions, staff is doing an excellent job of maintenance.

OVERALL LAYOUT: Challenging which is NOT to say there are no scoring chances...PAR 3's are FUN, challenging. Par 5's if played correctly can be reachable in two. A couple of holes on the front with elevation changes to the green. Having the PROfessional yardage book has already calculated either:
minus 20 yards on Hole #3, plus 4 yards on hole #6.
Hole #11 is an elevated Par 3 199 yards with water on the right, bunkers left, narrow landing area..FUN!

Kudos to Blake in the Pro Shop! Always been friendly to me.

Plenty of refill water stations on the course.
There are coolers near the token machine, grab a few scoops for your cart cooler.

Any negative? Yeah.....LONG DRIVE for me 1 hr 15 mins each way with no traffic.

Played here as a single on 4/24. I was first out at around 6:30 and it was great. The course is in pretty nice conditions (as always). My only complaint was that on 4 holes on the back 9, the pin was not up. Tough to gauge approach shot when you don't know where the pins are. On a couple of the holes, the maintenance workers finally saw me looking and put them up. Otherwise, it was a good day.

Tee boxes: Mostly level and in good conditions
Fairway: Smooth and in good conditions.
Rough: Not terribly long, but still tough to get out of.
Sand: Hard and packed. Maybe because it was still early
greens: nice and hard. Were not rolling terribly fast, most likely would if it was later in the day.

All in all, course in good conditions.

Played 4-18-2012. Course is in great shape. Greens are still recovering from being punched but still rolled pretty well. Greens are very undulating. There are no straight putts. Probably the most challenging greens I've played. Bunkers were not in the best of shape but still OK. This is a very challenging course. It will make you think your way around the course. Enjoy!
