Played in a 9:30 am tournament on an overcast Saturday morning that started to get sunny around the 5th hole. Luckily there wasn't much of the wind out there that can make Los Serranos such a tough course. The range was set up on grass instead of mats, and still in good shape by that time of the morning.

The North starts off fairly easily, and doesn't really start to challenge you until the 7th and 8th hole. The fairways and rough were in pretty good shape. The sand in the bunkers was thick and coarse, but more dusty than heavy. The only exception that I can think of were the intimidatingly deep bunkers that guard the front of the 16th green. Those bunkers barely had any sand at all.

The greens on the North are pretty small by modern standards. Although they were running medium-slow, the greens tended to be fairly sloped. There were many downhill 20-footers that would break two or three feet. It's best to leave the ball below the hole.

Both snack areas were open, and the staff throughout the course was relaxed and friendly. The round was a great reminder of this gem of a course.

Came out to Los Serranos after a long 2 month stretch of not touching a club... we were a threesome matched up with a single. POP right at 4 hours. Looks like all the bumps from the greens being punched are gone and the greens are much faster than usual here. Even on the first green with all the morning dew (6:30 am. Tee time) it was fast. The bunkers were in great shape and filled with some fluffy sand (at least the 6 i was in). There was one bunker on the back that was filled with water, but our group was lucky enough to stay away from that one.

Noon on 4/6 with the Gurus on a good day for golf in Chino (ie It wasn't 90 degrees and blowing 20mph). This will be the cliffsnotes version of all the previous reviews:

Tees and fairways: Always the same at Los Serranos, good lies in the kikuyu, the occasional thin patch (pretty sparse this time around, which is good) and tees solid, if a little unlevel at times. I don't think I've seen these conditions change at either course since the first time I played here at least 10 years ago.
Rough: Hodgepodge of really good to "ehhhhhh". You could get really nice kikuyu (usually good around the greens) or you could get the dreaded clover patch (more likely in the fairway rough). Again, very typical.
Greens: Bumpy and not completely healed from punching. Call your bank shots!
Bunkers: DO NOT GO IN THE GREENSIDE TRAPS ON 16!! They need some sand. The rest looked pretty normal (crusty and brown).

Teed it up Thursday with GK Review Gurus at Los Serranos North Course. Super time as always with fellow GK’ers. One of the things I’ve noticed in my experiences playing the North Course is pace of play has always been pretty fast and today was no exception as we finished in just over 4 hours. As for the conditions, I thought iit was overall good but it could have been much better if the greens were fully healed from aeration. I was surprised they were still bumpy given the punch happened approximately 6 weeks prior. But they certainly looked healthy and were playable. I’d guess in couple weeks they are going to be excellent. What was excellent were the fairways. The kikuyu turf was already playing like it was summer time with a lush padding and the ball sitting up great. The rough was in not as good of shape as the fairways but in good condition overall. It was cut low with occasional thin spots and thick spots. Regarding the bunkers, there we some traps with fresher quality sand but most had a darker firm texture sand that I was not a fan of. My guess is they are in an ongoing sand replenishing project but I am not sure about that and will follow up. Most bunkers needed more sand. Lastly the tee boxes where mostly level and lush. Posted some fresh photos so check them out.

One of my favorite parts of a Los Serranos Country Club experience is always the friendly community vibe. Everything about the place is comfortable to me. Love how respectful the facility is to the tradition of golf, the big clubhouse, reasonable food & drink prices, commentary iced water in lobby and just good people working there.

I’d like to return the course in June to take on the South Course and maybe do 36 with another round on the North Course.

Played 4-6-17 with the GK guru bunch walking in the first group and getting around in a little under 4 hours with no waiting. Tee boxes were in okay shape with good coverage and mostly level. The Kikuyu fairways were in very nice shape with good lies and minimal roll out. Rough was not much of a factor, pretty short with some minor bare spots. Was in one fairway bunker that was in good shape with thin sand which I like. Greens were still recovering from being punched so they were very bumpy with inconsistent speed.

I regularly play LS and I guess I can consider this my home course. Always enjoy playing here and today played in a GK Guru outing. On a fairly warm afternoon, it’s not unusual for the winds to pick up here and on this day it was true to form. With the 4 of us walking, we finished in just about 4 hours. We didn’t wait on anyone all day. The course is in good shape but not like I usually see it. Tee boxes are just ok but need some work. Some were a bit ragged and uneven. Fairway were really nice. In the fairway, the ball sat up on that kikuyu grass. Noticed that they had cut down the rough a bit. Not nearly as thick as I have always seen. Bunkers overall were in good shape. I should know as I was in 5 of them. They actually had repaired many of them over the past couple of months and have seen vast improvement. Some were damp which made it very heavy. One day however, they will fix the “Hell Bunkers” which are hard pan protecting 16 and 18 greens. Greens however were a disappointment and wasn’t expecting this since it has been about 6 weeks since they aerated. Don’t know a lot about green maintenance and maybe they take more than 6 weeks to recover?? Guess so. Know that the greens here are always in great shape and hope that in the next week or two, they will be back to normal.

Signed up at the last minute to join the GK Gurus this afternoon at Los Serranos. It was a good time out there with a little over a 4-hour pace (our group played as a fivesome behind the other foursome).

As evildrummerhb mentioned, the conditions were mostly pretty good. Tee boxes were pretty nice in general. Fairways were great. Nice fluffy pad of kikuyu provided great lies to hit from. Rough more of a mixed bag with the rough mostly very low and insignificant, some bare spots and other areas where the grass was thicker. I was in three bunkers. Two were good. The other (one of the nasty, yet awesome bunkers guarding the 16th green) had very little sand. Those bunkers are so cool, but it seems they never have much sand even though you need some softness there to pull off an intimidating escape. The greens still need another week or two to fully recover from the recent aeration. They were bumpy at times and speeds seemed inconsistent. They should only get better in the coming weeks, though.

I always enjoy my rounds on either LS course and this was no exception. It was made even more enjoyable alongside the GK Gurus!

Enjoyed a really fun round with some legendary GK'ers today as part of the Guru outing. The pace was fantastic clocking in at 4 hrs and the weather couldn't be any better with a nice breeze to keep it cool all day.

As Evil mentioned, the course was in mostly good shape with highlights being the fairways and rough which were lush and very full. Tees were mostly level with minor damage on the expected holes. Bunkers were a mixed bag of fluffy and thin and unfortunately the pot bunkers on 16 were not in good shape which is too bad since they're the focal point of that hole. Greens still need some time to recover from aeration. They were medium pace at best but were still bumpy. Another week or two and a good cut/roll will have them back in tip top shape.

Always a blast to tee it up in the guru outings and thanks Johnny for everything!

Had a great time with the guru group today. We went out in two groups, with nobody ahead when we began and a single behind us that never really pressed us at all. Nice, low stress golf.

I found the course to be in pretty good shape overall. The tee boxes were mostly level with good coverage, I never had a bad lie in the fairways, and the rough ranged from just above fairway height to pretty deep and difficult. There are several areas that have been filled in with bark/mulch in an effort to conserve water. I found a few bunkers and they all had adequate sand in them, but my playing partners did mention that the pot bunkers on 16 need to be filled up a bit.

The greens were unfortunately the low point of the round. They were inconsistent in both speed and firmness from one green to the next, and still showed signs of recovery from aeration last month. There were also some chewed-up areas on a few of the collars that could use some attention. I found my putts didn't want to hold the line, even very short putts.

Overall I had a lot of fun, and I'm sure the greens will be taken care of in the near future. Los Serranos is a great facility and I enjoy playing either course every chance I get.
