Played on Oct 9. I had heard that Los Serranos was a terrific course and had intended to play it for a long time. I kept hearing how top amateur events were usually held there, etc. Unfortunately, when I first played it last year in 2016, the course was in awful shape. There were many bare spots and the bunkers were just dirt. I assumed that the drought just took its toll on the course like it did on so many other courses. However, after seeing how courses that were previously in awful shape were somewhat better after the past winter, I had high hopes for Los Serranos this time. Alas, I saw little to no improvement. I kept seeing the same old bare spots on the fairways, rough and even just a few yards from the greens. The bunkers remain just hard dirt, so hard that I saw shots roll right through and out of them. The range looked ugly and the balls were mostly old and dirty. On the plus side, the greens weren't too bad and the folks in the pro shop were friendly and gave us a good deal on range balls when a golf tournament delayed our tee time by over half an hour. We were a bit surprised by a cranky old course marshall who threatened us with a slow play warning a few holes in even though the next group behind us was on the tee on a par 5 and we were on the green. Something about 13 minutes a hole. We weren't upset by it since we expected to finish the round quickly with no one left on the course after the shotgun tournament and with all three of us being fairly decent golfers (scores ranging from 74 to 83). We just found the gentleman rather bizarre and oblivious to reality. Perhaps he wasn't doing his job during the tournament that caused our half hour delay in our starting time and was reprimanded. Whatever. We were able to finish the course in four hours just as the sun set so everything worked out just fine. I'm sure the course was once in great shape judging from the omnipresent 2012 Course of the Year signs, but this course appears to be resting on its laurels. It's too bad because it is a nice course with lots of interesting holes. Was the $36 or so I paid to play worth it? Probably, but definitely not worth any more than that given the conditions. However, if the conditions were terrific, I'd be happy to pay more than double that. I hope they will turn it around. At least start by designating bare spots as ground under repair and having grass at least five yards around the green and green side bunkers. It would certainly be nice if the bunkers had some sand instead of just hard dirt.

Teed off Wednesday at 9:45 and finished in 4.5 hours. I will start by pointing out that the aeration alerts for the North and South course were flipped. The North was aerated early September and the South the week of 9/25. The greens showed no signs of punching. However, a thin layer of sand was applied to the greens. This did not affect putting. The greens were a little on the shaggy side and rolled reasonably smooth with medium speed. The greens were soft and held shots. The fairways were mostly good with some thin areas scattered throughout the course. The rough was fair to good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers around the greens were good. Fairway bunkers were fairly hard. The tee boxes were fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness. The holes on the course range from flat to hilly. The staff was very friendly.

Played Sunday 9/24/17. Greens are recovering nicely, if I hadn't known they were punched, I wouldn't have noticed. Rest of the course is as normal for LS, generally good with bare patches here and there. We went off early and played in about 3:45 or better.

Played Fri Aug 25th st 7.30 Breakfast was great as usual. Check in quick, easy and friendly. We were behind another 2 some who were behind a 4some so we knew we were not going to have a quick round. POP was 4.18 I have played the North course 3 times in the last 2 months and they have made some changes. Hole #10 (par 3) they took out the small water pond on left side of green. They did the same on the par 3 17th hole. Most of the time the water on both holes didn't come into play, but it does change your perspective of the hole. As before tee boxes, fairways were in good shape, greens rolled fine but had a few ball marks (I guess it matters how many groups are in front of you). I was in 4 or 5 bunkers and I must say the sand was great in all of them, the course must be working on improving them and it is working. Good lunch afterwards.

It’s been a while but our group finally got back to play LS. Had an 8:30 time on 8/24 and teed off right on time. It was a light day out there with not too many groups surprisingly. We never caught the group ahead of us and the group behind us never caught us. Nice and leisurely pace just under 4 hours. The course is in good shape. Fairways are in good shape with great lies out there. Tee boxes are ok as well. Sand traps are in good shape however some are good firm sand while others have very soft, fluffy sand. The bunkers in front of 17 green are still rock hard. Guess they will never change them. The greens were a disappointment. Very grainy and slow. This is not like LS to have them this slow but can’t have them perfect all of the time I guess. Still, LS is a great place to play. The layout is great with a combination of short and long par 4’s with very challenging par 3’s. Definitely recommend.

Played Los Serranos North Friday July 7th at 7:30. Was scheduled to play the South but a computer mess up caused double booking on the South so our group played the North. I played the North last week and not much was different. POP was slower at 4:16 because of the 4some in front of us. Course was very wet, they were really dumping the water on in preparation for the heat. Actually had a ball plug on the green on a par 3. The bunkers were so wet in the morning that it was like hitting off the beach after a wave went back out into the ocean. On the back 9 they dried out a were much more playable. Tee boxes, fairways, rough were all in good shape. The greens had been cut or something from last week, they had all these vertical lines, not holes, and it defiantly affected the putts, did not roll true at all. Both the North course and the South course are great values during the weekday for Seniors $35, you just can't beat this place for the price. This time I will play the South course on July 14th.

Played Los Serranos North Friday June 30th at 7:38. Breakfast was great as usual and check in was very friendly also. Got out on time. Played with my wife and 2 friends from work. POP was good at 4:02. Day was pleasant at first and got a little warm for the last 3 holes. Course was in good shape with the exception of the bunkers, but this Socal and I find most of the bunkers leave a lot to be desired. Maybe playing Classic Club a few months back spoiled me LOL. Tee boxes, fairways, rough were all in good shape. The greens rolled very nice, I was trying out a new putter so it didn't take long to find the speed. Both the North course and the South course are great values during the weekday for Seniors $35, you just can't beat this place for the price. I will play the South course on July 7th.

Played today in a great pace of 3 hours. Nice and comfortable when started and just warming up when we finished. Found the course to be a great shape. Tee boxes clean and playable; fairways with nice lies all round and good roll out; sand traps were wet from overnight dew/watering and played difficult (many complaints); rough was up outside of fairways and around greens and difficult; greens were just great, chipping, putting, holding shots and fast. Customer service excellent at all levels. Play if before it gets to hot and the course browns out?

I play here regularly but because of other commitments, travel, etc, its been a couple of months and was anxious to get back out. Played today 6/14 and had a 9:38 tee time. The morning times were booked on both course due to a youth tournament but that’s not why it was a 5 hour round today. After the tournament, there was a 4 some, a 3 some, then us. Somehow a 2 some snuck in there and they were very slow. They were not very good and it really slowed things down. Very unusual for a 5 hour weekday round here. Regardless, the course is in very nice condition. Fairways were lush kikuyu but it was cut down real nice. The rough was pretty thick. Hard to hit out of today. Sand traps were in really nice condition. Big improvement here. The greens were great. Not real fast but were rolling perfectly. Downhill putts a different story. Hit it too hard and you were possibly off the green. They were holding shots however. Love playing here. Always look forward to having a good lunch after in the restaurant. The girls who serve are super! Coming back next week!.
