Played over the weekend. POP 4.5 hrs for a Saturday which is pretty good. Conditions were really good.

Teeboxes: Very good.
Fairways: Best I've seen
Rough: They were really dry but with the drought, I don't really care if courses let the rough go.
Bunkers: Fluffy sand.
Greens: Greens were in great shape.

If you haven't played this course, you must come down and try it out. This course is not only fun to play but the scenery around the course is fantastic. You also pay $35-40 (Walking) whether you are a SD resident or not.

Always a pleasure for me to play, greens have recovered from top dressing and will only improve, as with all area courses water is down from past levels of usage and green footprint will be somewhat reduced but fairways are good and recent rainfall will help. Bunkers remain sketchy but a newly hired grounds keeper should make a difference.

Coronado remains one of my favorite golf courses in San Diego County. I played there yesterday on a breezy, but beautiful day. The course is just recovering from maintenance and is in really nice shape overall.

But I am concerned about the uncharacteristically hard greens. Especially, so soon after punching and the recent rain. The greens were not holding at all. Even flop shots were bouncing over, or to the back of the greens. As you might expect, they were pretty fast and still a little bumpy from being punched. But I've never played the course with such firm greens. The rest of the course was pretty lush and green, so I don't think that it's a water thing. I hope that it's only temporary and meant to punish the Mens Club members playing this weekend.

I love fast, true greens! So, I hope that Coronado GC can again achieve a good balance between green speeds and firmness.

I agree with Z review but wanted to add a few more comments. The greens are certainly the highlight. It was a little bumpy but most of that is due to golfers not repairing their ball marks because I thought the practice green was really smooth and fast and considering there are no divots on the practice green I really think this falls into the hands of us the golfer.

Since this is a short course the tee boxes do beta little more divot damage than other places. However all seemed to be level and even with the divot damage you could find somewhere to tee it up.

Fairways were hit or miss and I'll give an example on 12 which is a short par 4 I thought in hindsight it would have been better to go for the green just because the fairway was clumpy and since everyone was hitting to the same area there were a ton of divots.

Sand was actually pretty good really no complaints there. Pace was a little slower than I expected but there was a marshal out there who seemed to be things back in order.

Conclusion, for $35 it's as good of a value as you'll find.

Played here on Friday AM, 1/30. Greens: great condition, holding and smooth, medium to fast. Fairways: overall good condition, some bare spots/thin lies. Rough: under 3", were not penal. Sand traps: lots of sand. POP: at 4 1/2 hours. Great views of the San Diego bay. Also, excellent food at the clubhouse. Love playing here, wish it were closer to O'side.

Good grass coverage on fairways with no significant bare patches. Less brown, more green, than other local courses I played recently. Greens very fast and true. Quite challenging if above the hole. Tees flat and even. Rough was short with good grass coverage and not difficult to play from. PoP was 5 hours on Sunday starting at 10.00 am. We walked.

Played today, Sunday, tee off at noon sharp, finished in the dark. Pretty slow, which is usual for this place. Just gets a lot of play and you end up waiting on just about every shot, but you just have to expect that at this course.

Condition is very playable right now, a step above average I would say. Fairways were nice to very nice, I hit a lot of them and only had one bad lie in the fairway. Greens were receptive to all shots, due to the recent rain I guess, but were pretty bumpy and wouldn't hold the line. Bunkers were hit and miss, some fluffy, almost too fluffy, some were hard pan underneath. Teeboxes were above average, they were level and I never had an issue with them. Rough was cut fairly low, so not much of an issue. Paid the normal $40 rate to walk on a nice sunny day, so can't complain, I don't think it's really worth the green fee, but I live here and it's better than driving off the island to play somewhere else. Overall, I always enjoy playing Nado because of the views and the walkability of the course.

Anyways, went off a little past noon and finished a little before 5, which isn't that bad for Coronado! The course was in great shape and the weather was nice. The greens are rolling nice and fast. Fairways are plush, a few brown spots but I didn't see any bare areas. Rough is minimal, but just enough of a bother. Bunkers looked excellent, I was only in one, a fairway bunker and it was perfect.
Overall Coronado is in great shape right now.

Played a noon start time on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. I was happy to get a relatively early start, since I had only played twilight at this course before and have never gotten past the 11th hole. It was a gorgeous day, with a coastal haze that burned off into beautiful blue skies with a slight breeze. The course is in pretty good shape, with a few dry patches in the fairways, and a couple of rough tee boxes (the par-3 9th hole tilted you on a side-hill draw lie for a right-hander, and the par-4 10th hole tee box was really sandy). For me, the greens were the highlight, rolling beautifully at a medium speed. Balls were also landing very softly on the greens. I was never in a greenside bunker, but the fairway bunkers had a surprisingly deep amount of sand. I was glad to finally complete the back nine, with all of its views of the marina. It felt a little tighter, and I'm not a fan of the in-course OB stakes. With it being Labor Day weekend, there were a lot of boats out, and a couple of distractingly noisy party boats out there. On the tee box of the par 5 13th hole, one boat was bumping techno music and randomly firing off an air horn. I felt like someone was going to grab me from behind, tilt my head back, and force a tequila shot into me, Tijuana-style. It was all very understandable for a long weekend, and my playing group actually commented on how much less of a party atmosphere this weekend seemed than for other holidays. The beverage cart caught us twice and seemed fairly friendly. The pace of play was okay, with occasional waiting for shots, and much better than my last weekend round at Coronado several years ago. We finished in 5 hours and 9 minutes, all members of our foursome walking. I love the relaxed atmosphere at Coronado. Tip around the tee boxes though, the fences that they put up to protect the tee boxes aren't that high, so be mindful of the possibility of golf balls flying in.
