Played on Sunday the 26th. Beautiful day. Walked on as a single and got out in about 45mins, Ken the starter is great. They had a little tournament heading out when I showed up at 10:30am and I was able to get out right behind them at 11:30. POP wasn't too bad, actually. A little better than normal, around 4.5hrs, which is great for Nado.

Course is in pretty good shape right now. The teeboxes and fairways are quite nice, actually. Didn't find much rough, but it was playable, not too penal. Found one bunker and it was great, not too fluffy and not hard pan. Greens were just ok. They have a mix of different types of grass going on right now, but they putted ok. A little bumpy, I didn't make anything all day. I think my longest put holed was 4 feet, yikes. Can't blame the greens, though, I just suck at putting.

Overall, great day, just beautiful and always enjoy getting out to my neighborhood course. Walking rate of $39 is just fine on a weekend. Get on out there.

Greens: the greens on the course are much slower that the practice green, speed was medium to slow on the course.

Fairways: not a bad lie in the fairway.

Rough: 1-3" high with bare spots.

Traps: excellent except when they were not raked.

Tees: par 3's had lots of divots.

POP: 4 hours

Nice range except for the mats and great short game practice area. Friendly staff. Good food in the club house. Oh, if you are playing in the AM, allow 20-25 minutes to cross the bridge during week day rush hour. At 6:30 AM traffic was backed up as soon as we exited the 5.

Played Friday 4-29-16, teed off at 7:15. Greens showed they had been punched recently, but rolled well. Flat course that could be walked easily. If you want to avoid the booking fee call two days prior at 9am and speak to the starter. Nice course in a nice place. Definitely, not my favorite course in San Diego, but a decent one to play every now and then.

Decided late morning to head to the friendly confines for twilight, but Balboa Park was all booked up until 2:45 with a CIF tourney. So I headed across the bridge to Nado. I didn't know that twilight is now at 3 there and it was 1:30 when I got there. Well the tee sheet was empty from 1:15 until twilight so I decided to warm up and then make this my first "walking" round since coming back from hernia surgery as Nado is flat and an easy walk. $35 to walk is a bit steep for this place, but It was wide open, I played solo and didn't catch anyone until 18. Now, me and Nado don't get along, never have, but it's a decent track that's an easy walk. The course was in good muni condition, evidence of punching was still there on the greens and some of the fairways.
Tees: flat and playable
Fairways: mostly well covered, but thin, with many un-repaired divots (this place gets A LOT of traffic!)
Rough: minimal at best, inconsistent and patchy (the views 'from' the course are pretty, the actual course not so much right now . . . but plenty playable)
Bunkers: the best I have ever seen them, some full of heavy deep sand (with some un-raked foot prints in a couple I was in . . . it's OK, people who played before me, I raked em) and others a bit thinner but well covered
Greens: rolling decent, medium speed, still a little bumpy and a bit on the hard side but good shots stuck, just left minimal if any mark
POP: no one was in front of me, 3 hours 15 minutes walking (and just cruising at that)
Customer Service: great, was given time to warm up a bit then sent right out, saw the snack cart twice
Facilities: big putting green, chipping OK, another practice green just past the driving range with a nice deep bunker and lots of area to pitch and chip. Always on mats at range
Layout: I like the layout, it's interesting enough, challenging enough with some pretty longish holes especially considering the wind, flat with some well placed bunkers . . . but I just can never score well here even when I'm playing well, but I have watched friends tear it up.
Overall: a nice muni, usually very busy but I got lucky today, worth the $35 to walk alone, quickly, when it's busy and you are waiting a lot, not so worth it. I'll be back, I always am coming back trying to figure out how to play this place . . . someday!

It's a flat course. What you see is what you get. It was fun though playing close to the water. Water really doesn't come into play, it's more of a distraction. Pace of play was slow that day but we were able to get in 9 and a few more before sunset. Not bad for twilight on a Sunday.

Pleased with conditions of course. Should be fun once greens had a chance to heal.

Got on for $30 mid day and was able to avoid the $16 advanced booking fee. The booking fee has been a major deterent for me since they implemented it, but I still think this course is one of the bes... Continue »

Got on for $30 mid day and was able to avoid the $16 advanced booking fee. The booking fee has been a major deterent for me since they implemented it, but I still think this course is one of the best values in the county. 4 of the holes are right on the water and come with excellent views. The closing 3 holes from the Hotel del Coronado/boatyard back to the clubhouse are phenomenal.

This course is very flat so it is one of the easiest courses to walk. Unfortunately, because so many people walk and don't have the divot repair mix, this course has a fair amount of unfilled divots. But aside from that, the fairways are really great lush carpet and not too firm. The rough was pretty short, not very penal. A few holes even let you play your errant shots out of sand, not bunker, but actual beach sand. I had to on the dogleg 17. Greens were rolling well with not many ball marks or other bumps, a little on the soft side.

Course is on the longer side, but very forgiving making it one of the easiest courses around. Lots of holes running parallel to each other and the only main hazards are the lakes on 8, 9 and the ocean on 3, 16, 17, 18

Downside is that this course always plays slowly. 10:45 mid week and the round was just under 5.5. It is very rare to finish a twilight round, so don't expect to.

Can't believe it, got right out on a Sunday late morning. Not very busy at all! Maybe cuz of football? I don't know, but not complaining. And it actually played quick for Nado, POP was less than 4.5 hrs, wow.

Course is in OK shape right now all around, nothing super poor and nothing super great. Greens were holding shots very well, nice and soft, running fairly smooth and pretty quick. Had a little bump on them, but overall very playable. Teeboxes were OK, nice and level. Fairly lush, and they had them all the way back, so not much divot damage. Fairways were also just fine, had some divot damage and I found a couple of those divots with my drives, which kinda sucked, but oh well. Found one bunker and it was very soft, almost too soft, but that's better than hard pan. Rough was fairly lush and low so wasn't too penal.

Paid the normal $40 rack rate to walk on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, which is just fine for this course with the views and the conditions. Customer service is always good here. The bartenders and cart girl are always great and friendly. Bruce the starter is awesome as well.

Played last Wednesday in corporate tournament. Pop was 5 hrs for a scramble format. Greens were smooth and putted around 8.5. Fairways and rough in decent shape. Customer service was average. Sand traps were average. We had drink tickets and they closed the snack shop at the turn so we could only redeem with cart girl. She was extremely unpleasant and could care less if we tipped her a c note. Great views on back 9 including a specutacular 18th hole with views of San Diego skyline.

Played: Monday morning, 7/27 at 6:30 for $55.

Played: Monday morning, 7/27 at 6:30 for $55.

Observations from first time playing Coronado! It's a 'must play' IMO, period. Absolutely beautiful course in an incredibly beautiful location on Coronado Island. This was my first time getting to Coronado Golf Course since moving to Northern SD County 2 years ago and I regret that I've waited this long. What an amazing overall experience. The 'feel' of this place is just so calm and relaxing and the surrounding views so beautiful, leaving here was really the only regret of the day (but the regret was short lived since my next stop was La Costa as my next review will detail). If somehow you've played this course and don't think it's an amazing GEM, you are either trying keep the secret to yourself or just haven't taken your happy pills lately. What a place to play golf!.

Course Type: A 6500'ish yard track from the blues squeezed onto what seems like a relatively small piece of propery, this course has a big punch packed into a small package. It allows for wayward drives off the tee (a majority of holes having parallel dogleg fairways throughout, a personal favorite of mine) but it punishes those shots accordingly with semi to thick rough and tree trouble everywhere. A solid drive will result in great lies all day and well hit irons will stick on these luscious and receptive greens.

Practice Facilities: Meh, nothing special for sure, but enough to get the job done. Smallish range hitting off some aged mats and an immaculate putting green near the first tee to balance it out. Did not notice any other practice areas.

Tee Boxes/Fairways: Both in near 'immaculate' condition. The Tee boxes on most holes seem to have blue/white tee's bunched for the most part and fairways have very mild undulation throughout. I would say almost conclusively there is no brown to be found anywhere on this course, and though that may be a possible stretch, if it is, it's not by much. This place is the very definition of 'green and luscious', from tee to green to tee again.

Greens: What a joy to hit to and put on. The greens at Coronado were nearly flawless, with minimal bumps/unrepaired marks, readable and rolling very true, and edges/fringes which were well defined.

Rough/Bunkers: The rough was penal enough, several inches throughout, but the consistent tree trouble is what caused most of the damage. I loved not being OB on errant tee shots and getting to create and shape shots (uh, not that I had to or anything) but I hated having to take my medicine and get blocked out from going after pins because of tree trouble. The bunkers were nice with quality sand if just a tick dry/compacted in places. Not 'elite' white sand beach stuff but not the gritty dirt you might expect to find at a muni course either. Playable for sure.

Service: Got a friendly response when asked about a tee time for the next morning, on a course that is often booked up days in advance, and received a recently cancelled tee time from a very friendly lady named Kathy. Didn't see a cart of any kind or stop by the snack shop after either nine, but I believe they had both.

Summary: Though this is NOT a 'championship' type design by any stretch, in my book it's the very next best thing; an IMMACULATELY conditioned course full of challenging doglegs with recovery opportunities and very few OB issues, laid out on an equally impressive and picturesque piece of property tucked away on the corner of Coronado Island. Anyone within driving distance who doesn't want to make this a regular on their circuit should seriously consider a mental examination IMO :)

One Note: Though the POP is said to be consistently brisk, and it was certainly the case this day, there are a TON of walkers here because of the very compact property and efficient course layout, so don't be surprised if you have a foursome pushing carts ahead of you, and ahead of them...and so on. In fact, next time around, I will probably join them now that I think about it!
