Played Eagle Crest on Sunday, 4/26 with fellow GKers Sal and John. We paid $52 on Golfnow for a 7:52 tee time. Strangely enough, the course was basically empty. It was a nice day, and the condition of the course was solid, so I'm wondering if the little bit of rain we got on Saturday scared some people away.

I really like the layout at Eagle Crest. I think you get a good variety of holes, even though I don't think any of it is particularly spectacular.

We played in about 3 hours and 15 minutes as a threesome, and none of us really set the world on fire, so POP is definitely not an issue out here. I seem to play fast every time I tee it up here, even though there isn't a marshal out there. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I'd say the course is in pretty good shape right now. The greens are definitely the highlight of the course as they were pure and rolled great. One thing I did notice is that they were pretty soft, probably because of the rain, and held shots almost too well (you'd even make small ball marks with pitch and chip shots). I'm guessing that the later you play the worse off you are as there would be a decent amount of foot prints/spike marks.

I wouldn't describe the conditions of the tees or fairways lush and great by any means, but I never found a bad lie on either, so something in the 6 out of 10 range seems reasonable.

I kind of lump Eagle Crest in with The Vineyard, Mt. Woodson and Carmel Mountain Ranch as North County San Diego courses that are really enjoyable to play, solid tracks, and you can play for about $50 on the weekend.

Talked to the dude in the shop and they are going to start punching the greens on May 4th, so get out and play before then for arguably the best putting greens in North County.

It's amazing how in just a couple of weeks conditions can start to change. Course was still in good shape, but a few brown areas are starting to show in the fairway's and the rough is starting to dry out. Fairway's were still mostly green and fairly soft, but starting to firm up.
Greens were very receptive & soft. Shots pretty much stopped where they landed. But this also meant that there were a lot of foot prints on some of the greens along with more ball mark damage. Over all they were still in good to very good shape, but not quite as good as their norm ! They were running at a solid medium speed, so little on the slow side.
Over all the course was still in decent to good shape.

Very tight course, so accuracy off the tee is paramount. An average course. It had been 18 years since I had been here. Probably 18 more before I return.

Greens are fantastic. Only a few very small sick spots, but 98% perfect.
Tees good & traps mostly still suck.

Teed it up early Sunday morning and it was COLD! Grabbed a GolfNow deal for $45 w/cart, which I feel is a solid deal here.

We had to play the first 9 or so holes with cart path only due to frost. People in the shop were great and we zoomed along, finishing in under 4 hours as foursome (and two of the guys shot in the 100-110 range, so we weren't world beaters).

The condition of the course is a little rough around the edges right now. I never really had too terrible of lies, but it's definitely winter conditions out here with thinner fairways and some browning. I honestly don't think it was bad at all, but you can definitely tell it was due to the time of year.

I will say that the greens were OUTSTANDING. Even with some frost/moisture on them they rolled great and smooth. Once they dried out a little when the sun came out, they were a ton of fun to putt on and by far the best part of the course.

I think Eagle Crest is a fun little track. It's pretty short (I think 6400 from the blues, par 72), but there's enough water, hazards, etc. to keep you honest and provide a good test.

I don't mind the winter conditions at all and hope to get out here again soon considering we only paid $45 for a morning weekend round and how great the greens are. I think if you put this course in your North County San Diego rotation you'd be making a good call.

I played Eagle Crest last weekend and echo the comments from the previous reviewer. The greens were good for the most part but the rest of the course left a lot to be desired. Although there were several fairways that were decent, it seemed as if they cut the grass around the bunkers too much leaving practically just dirt on several of the holes. From a distance, it was sometimes hard to distinguish bunkers from fairways or rough since it just looked all brown. Additionally, the bunkers were very inconsistent from hole to hole. They ranged from newer sand with decent coverage to crusty dirt/sand with thin coverage. The layout of this course is fun with some interesting holes but it looks like they are cutting back on maintenance/watering. I played for $25 but even at that rate, I think it will be awhile until I play again.

I knew based on reviewers I trust (TG) what I should expect going in... Gripes: Fairways have dirt in fairway, lots of bare spots, traps varied from mud-dirt-chrunchy sand-soft sand- hole to hole so it did provide quite the challenge. Good: most of the greens left me rather impressed by their roll and quality... Overall: I paid $20 and played because I have a tournament there soon. Otherwise I doubt I would have made the trip. This is a course where you can use all the clubs in your bag which is rare. Sadly, with the lack of rain and the hot summer, the course is penal where it shouldnt be (fairway). Ive said it before... Until courses stop watering where they shouldnt, the rest of the course will suffer. Staff was uber friendly and my overall feeling was that of enjoyment.

Played today @11:12am as a twosome. Finished in 5hrs as we had to wait on every hole. Course seems to be coming around nicely as most of the fairway landing areas are more green than brown. Seems if you keep your shots on intended landing areas, chances are your ball will be sitting on green grass. But if you go offline, it's mostly dirt. Greens were good with the exception of few holes with excessive badly fixed ball marks.
We were a bit hesitant to play this course today with mostly negative recent reviews but we ended up enjoying the day with mostly good playing conditions. It still isn't pleasing to the eye with many dirt/brown areas but I would say the course is now definitely "playable".

First experience here, getting out with an weekday 7am start;
- Holes 1-9 pretty much water saturated everywhere. Putts were slow.
Fairways were as thin as thin can get. Excessive barren wasteland in numberous areas just outside of fairways.
Bunkers/traps were ridiculous being a 50/50 mix of sand and mud. Then with them being saturated, made it a triple hazard.
All in all, course layout provided various shot alternatives from hole to hole. Good mix of straight and narrow, dog-legs in both directions, along with sand/mud traps everywhere, which in my mind supports a very challenging round.
This course had to have more bunkers/traps then any course I've ever played.
If this place had grass, both on & off fairways, fixed up a couple greens, and got their water areas cleaned up and waterfall working, it could easily be a pristine place to play.
