Course was in over all great shape. Fairway's were green & lush with full coverage. A few dry areas mixed around, but caused no issues. Ball sat nicely and they had good roll out. A little firm underneath. Greens, although visually lacking in appearance, played fantastic. Very receptive. Rolled true and at a good speed of a couple notches above medium. Never had so many shots stop dead on their landing or roll back. Was in a couple of traps and they all looked the same of firm, but consistent. Pace was a little on the slow side. Saw the cart girl multiple times. Great service and a great practice/warm up area. It's worth it to show up a little early to take advantage of it. Price is a little too steep in my opinion, but a great track in great shape.

Fun course from top to bottom, some holes rewarding driver and others requiring a well placed shorter tee shot. Lots of elevation changes as well and the course does well to give you some interesting shot shapes. When the tees are properly at the tips it is a much different course than the forward tees. Great practice area that's typically off of the grass as well as a good short game practice area.

Staff are very courteous and helpful and there are deals to be had for multiple rounds in a day via their occasional voucher program.

Greens are solid. Smooth and running true. Speed was excellent, not too fast, you could attack the hole with confidence (not that I did). There are a couple of bare patches on a couple of greens, but never near the hole, and that is the only thing from giving these greens a 10.

Fairways and rough are in great shape, very playable. Sand traps are near perfect.

Staff was great and very helpful.

Pace of play was exactly 7 hours.

For 36 holes.

Maderas remains my #1 recommendation for the San Diego area.

Rode the blues in a little more than 4 hours at 1040 on a TeeOff Deal for $76, which is an absolute deal. Not much to add on the prior reviews. This is a flawless course right now. Everything lush, tee boxes level, traps perfect. The one thing I would like to add is that the practice area is incredible. If you are gonna play here which I highly recommend utilize their practice are.

Played late morning on a picture perfect Southern California day. As Matt mentioned course is in fantastic shape. Maderas is always a great track when in the San Diego area. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by friendly and helpful staff. Yes, they want tips but so do waitresses at high end restaurants. Don't want to tip? Eat/play at low end places and you're good to go.

Names are in the cart ahead of time, which yes is a little thing but it adds a touch of class to the already outstanding service.

Range is included with green fees. The one small and possible only downside to the entire place is the range is mats only. Carts have full GPS with distances to the pin.

Course is has a few water hazards and waterfalls to go hand in hand with the numerous elevation changes. Add in some forced carries over the mountain side cliffs and you have one great layout.

Conditions are a solid 9 tee to green. Greens were rolling fast but soft enough to easily hold well struck approach shots. Greens have several undulations with some tough pin locations.
Fairways were very lush. They reminded me of the fairways at Quail Lodge.

Tee boxes were also in fantastic shape. I somehow managed to avoid the bunkers all day but others were in them and they had great sand.

Used a Teeoff.com promo code today for a 10:40 tee time. Weather was pleasant overcast in the beginning clearing up by the turn. From the moment I arrived the course looked much more lush than the previous trips here. After talking to the marshal he mentioned that there was a new superintendent that had really made the place immaculate. Conditions from tee to green were absolutely amazing. Lush tee boxes with many to choose from makes the course playable for any player. We played the blues which play around 6600 yards. Fairways extremely green and cut short for maximum roll out. This came in to play as the rough was cut short too so a lot of roll could cause major OB issues. Greens were smooth and medium fast. All well struck shots would stick or spin so that is a nice touch. Even though pins were in some tough locations I had the flat stick working from below the holes. San looked fantastic and fortunately I was not in any of them. The staff here is awesome from the check in to the starter and Cart girls. Top notch service as expected from a Troon facility. I highly recommend playing here soon if you can snag a deal.

Meh, for the first time ever after playing Maderas, meh, let me explain. After all the rain this year and with all the other courses I have played on the last few months being ultra green and plush, today Maderas was not. Granted that they are about to close for a couple days to punch the greens (and possibly oversees?) Coverage was thin EVERYWHERE, with brown everywhere besides the putting green and the hill left of the 16th green. Tees: thin, a couple overly crowned Fairways: thin, running HARD, decent for full shots but made partial shots and pitches tricky Rough: nonexistent, if your ball wasn't headed in the right direction there was nothing to stop or even slow it down Bunkers: very nice, best part of the course Greens: good, slow, way slower than they looked, accepted well struck shots but repelled anything less. The approach areas and areas around the greens were extremely thin making chips and pitches impossible for me, lots of Texas wedges and hybrids from around the greens POP: about 4 hours never waited we just took our time Customer service: top notch like always, they aim to please Overall: I got a great deal on GN, $60, today Maderas was a $60 course, a nice one with great amenities, fun layout and excellent customer service, but the actual turf and playing areas weren't spectacular . . . you'd have thought we were still suffering from a drought! I will definitely return well after the upcoming work to the course, return in hopes of finding green grass!

Played here yesterday on a 12:50pm (twilight) tee-time with GK members Jon (jpeairs85) and Nat (molebio). It was a day of highs and lows, highlighted unfortunately by a round that we had to call after 15 holes at nearly 5 hours of play. I'll rant at the end about that, but course conditions today were great with greens that were some of the finest I have seen outside of Rams Hill. A more detailed description of those conditions...

Tee-boxes: Nearly perfect. Lush, with deep forest green blades of grass immaculately cut. A varied mix of tee box options ensured that 95% of golfers wouldn't destroy the same set of tees. Level ground that allowed for exact positioning of tee length.

Fairways: Amazing. They weren't as green as one would hope after a rainy last month, but short of that they were perfect. A good seed/sod mix in every cart and conscientious golfers ensured a minimal amount of divots. The fairways offered a fair amount of roll and every shot seemed to have a great lie.

Rough: Almost not applicable. Anyone who has played this course knows the rough here isn't what kills your game, its all the barrancas and ESA's. The rough that does exist isn't so penal you can't scramble for bogey.

Bunkers: Was only in one bunker today, but the conditions were excellent. The sand consistency is what you would hope, especially after rain in the last week. Enough sand on the course to keep anyone humble. A good amount of rakes!

Greens: Like I mentioned, this was my first ever 10 on bunkers. They were glowing like emeralds and played with the speed of glass at times. The putting surface was smooth and outside of a few marks that went without fixing, they were perfect. I would come back just for another chance to make putts on them.

ETC: A Troon facility that sadly felt a bit short of the expectations other courses like Classic Club and Yocha Dehe have established. Employees were helpful and nice, but a lack of marshals and all-around shortage of staff was noticeable. Carts were excellent with comfortable seats, great GPS, and a cooler with plenty of ice and water. Up to this point, all was good. The real shame here today was the insanely slow pace of play. Frost delay or not (we couldn't even get a straight answer about this), there is no excuse for a 3 hour front. There was perfect storm of first weekend w/out rain, slow players, people waiting unnecessarily, and stupidly walking to their balls even as carts were allowed everywhere but on the green! A real shame that some of the best holes we couldn't ever get to on this day. If you can find a good deal, the course is only going to get better.
