Frost held up the start times until 8:30am - bummer! The pace of play suffered from the shotgun start, especially with the twosome we got lucky enough to be paired with!! The tee boxes were a little thin and the grass on them was nearly the length of the rough. The fairways were somewhat thin with a few nearly bare areas - the rain did a job on the course conditions. The rough was not too thick and consisted of much more kikuyu grass than I've remembered? The greens here are always very good and today they were in great shape - they were very smooth, fast and with nearly no ball marks! The traps had not been groomed since the rain on Friday and many had large puddles still. The staff is always very good and did a great job with the shotgun start. The course is fairly narrow with a few blind shots and many of the holes have trees that are in play even off the tees - the leaves from the Sycamore trees will make finding some shots impossible at times. The course is very picturesque winding through the hills with the constant sounds of freeway traffic, sort of like Green River in Corona. There are usually good rates found on the discount sites and they do offer stay and play. The rain last week should also improve the overall conditions for the next couple weeks.

Played here this afternoon with Itslikeimsayin. $12 GN hot deal pretty hard to beat. With some slow players ahead of us, we were worried about finishing with our 12:54 start, but we just made it in before dark and the total pace of 4:15 was better than it seemed on a busy day.

Not much to add to Mark's assessment of the conditions. Overall good, but some areas that can use attention. Tee boxes had good grass, but a bit too shaggy. Fairways had a lot of thin spots. Rough pretty good throughout with different types of grass in the mix. Greens soft and receptive but rolling nice at fairly quick speeds. Still visually showing freckles from the aeration last month and ran a little bumpy late in the day. Putting surfaces should get nicer and nicer in the coming weeks. Bunkers had a lot of footprints and inconsistent sand. Mostly fine enough, though.

Always a fun course that plays much tougher than its short overall yardage. Tight OB lines on just about every hole, plenty of trees in play, tricky greens, hilly terrain—it's a real shot-maker's course in a nice setting. Great deal and I'm glad we got to finish all 18 before dark. Will be back.

Played here today at 12:54 with sixpez on a great GN Hot Deal rate. The course was surprisingly busy but we started right on time. Things were very slow going early, and then we suspect a few groups in front of us either all quit or jumped around a couple of other groups, because suddenly we were behind a totally different group than who we started behind. They played very slowly, which made it feel like we were playing slowly, but overall POP was 4:15 and we finished right as it was getting dark. Always a fun layout with some nice elevation changes and a real need to work the ball both ways due to narrow, tree-lined holes.

Course conditions are a mixed bag but pretty good overall. Visually, the course looks fantastic. However, the coverage on the fairways is rather thin in many spots once you get right on top of it. I had bad fairway lies on many front nine holes. They seemed to get a little better on the back, but overall the fairways were disappointing to me. The greens are excellent, almost back to the standard that made Pala Mesa known for the fastest, purest greens 20-25 years ago. They were medium-fast to fast, quite smooth and accepting of full shots. The rough had better coverage than the fairways, probably due to the grass being able to grow longer and fuller. There was really nice, lush rough around most greens. Tee boxes were very lush but in need of mowing; definitely a bit too long. I was in one bunker and it was good. Three holes: 8, 11 & 17 were cart path only.

For the rate we paid, no complaints but hopefully the fairways fill in a little more. If that happens and the tees get a little more TLC, the course will be in very good/excellent condition.

The course is in probably the best shape I've seen it in since I began playing it. The tee boxes did need to be cut - they were very long and some slightly thin. The fairways has very good coverage and were for the most part green. The traps were in nice shape too - even though some needed a little TLC and too be raked. The greens were very fast for our early am round. You could still see the work that had been performed on them recently but it did not affect the putts at all. The greens did not hold shots well and were guarded by very penal thick kikuyu grass on most holes! Very frustrating to have to search for your shots around the greens and then deal with the kikuyu!! The staff is always pleasant and helpful. Definitely a course to play if you are in the area.

Played Friday AM, first time in 3 weeks. Greens: probably 2 weeks away from being fully "healed", currently slow and bumpy.... Fairways: still plenty of opportunities for a thin lie in the middle of the fairway, looks like they are overseeding about 40-50 yds out from the greens as the grass is higher than the rest of the fairway. Rough: grass is 1-3" high with many bare spots. Traps: terrible condition, looks like they haven't been raked in a week. POP: over 4 1/2 hours. Not worth regular rates.

Played in a San Diego Senior match Friday AM, first time here in a couple of months. Not very busy in the AM as they were having a large outing at Noon. First let me confirm that aeration is starting on Oct 3rd. Greens: best part of the course, smooth and holding but not the usual speed (medium to fast) of the greens, they were medium to slow. Fairways: you get at 50-50 chance of getting a thin/bare lie even if you are in the middle of the fairway. Rough: lots of thin/bare lies in the rough. Traps: firm but there is some sand beneath the ball. POP: just over 4 hours. Nice Driving Range but you are hitting off mats.

Played here yesterday with 27 others. The course has a nice layout, the Hotel is nice, and the grounds are nice too. Everything is just a little dated and could use some TLC. Greens were the best part with a few bumps and ball marks but they rolled good and were medium fast. Tees were level, sand was pretty consistent, and the pace was good but the fairways need some work. It was tough to get a good lie even after hitting a good tee shot. Course is hilly so when you work hard to hit a fairway it would be great to be rewarded with a decent lie. The fairways were hard pan in places, patchy in others, and lush at times. Like I said....they just need a little TLC and attention to the details......

This is a course I seldom play! Living in So Cal since 1970, have only played here 4 times previously. Now I remember why!

This is a course I seldom play! Living in So Cal since 1970, have only played here 4 times previously. Now I remember why!

We had the first time off at 6:27, and was told that was the earliest ANYONE could tee off. As we went to the first tee, a single just walked in front of us and teed off. Then a twosome drove by and went to #2 So much for a quick round.

To be fair, the course itself was in decent condition. Fairways were decent, but with brown/bare areas. The greens were the best part of the course. I did not remember them having so much slope. (Or maybe I was just in the wrong spots?) They received shots well and rolled true. Nice sand in the bunkers.

Since my last time here, they reversed the nines. I had always enjoyed the front (Now the back) and found the now front nine to me rather boring. Maybe because I drove the ball well today, the course did not seem as narrow as I remembered? All and all, despite ciaos to start, enjoyed the round and the course.

Greens were the best part of the course, subtle breaks and undulations really made putting a challenge. Bunkers were nice with fluffy sand, but some had rocks in them. Fairways were a mixed bag, different types of grass growing in different places. Tee boxes were level for the most part.
